Chapter 77: The Poet of Great Love is Rotten to the Core
Chapter 77: The Poet of Great Love is Rotten to the Core
In the foundational level of the Inferno Corridor Academy, a group of figures came to a halt before a massive mithril gate. This was a shortcut to the second layer of the corridor, adorned with ancient runes that shimmered mysteriously in the flickering candlelight.
With a gentle push from the vice-principal, a rumbling echo resounded through the ancient stone walls, accompanied by a rush of fresh candle fragrance.
Stepping into the grand transitional corridor, one would behold towering demon statues lining the passage, their shadowy golden silhouettes recounting the lengthy history of the school's establishment.
As the footsteps of the vampire envoy, the escort battalion, and the academy's high-ranking officials echoed through the corridor, their hushed whispers created a deep, reverberating hum.
"Stop."
Suddenly, at the front of the group, the vampire envoy, Baron Sanchez, halted in his tracks.
The entire entourage gradually came to a standstill, their attention now focused on him.
"What is it?"
The Poet of Great Love, who led the group, turned back with a puzzled expression and inquired of Baron Sanchez, the vampire envoy.
"Why are we skipping Corridor Number 24, Miss Lanfu?"
Baron Sanchez raised his hand, signaling for the demon officer escorting him to hand over a map, which he promptly unfurled and scrutinized to confirm his suspicions. A frosty glint appeared in his eyes as he fixed his gaze upon the Poet of Great Love and the vice-principal, demanding an answer.
Although the school's layout was intricate and the connections between corridors ever-changing, Baron Sanchez had taken the time to memorize the overall structure beforehand.
In the foundational level, they had passed by numerous classrooms, yet despite their meandering path, they had conspicuously avoided entering Corridor Number 24.
Baron Sanchez, endowed with the Blood True Eye, also possessed remarkable insight. With just a single traversal, he had committed the entire network of corridors in the foundational level to memory.
Even though the route guided by the principal and his entourage of demons appeared flawless, there had been several instances where they could have entered Corridor Number 24 at intersections. However, the acting principal and vice-principal had skillfully diverted him into entirely new corridors through ingenious route planning.
Their maneuvering was so subtle that Sanchez never experienced the dissonance of wandering into a repetitive loop!
"You've misunderstood," the Poet of Great Love replied calmly. "Corridor Number 24 is currently sealed, and I can assure you that the student you seek is not within."
Unbeknownst to her, this response caused Baron Sanchez to fixate his gaze upon her for a moment longer, as if attempting to peer deep into the depths of her eyes.
"Take me there," he stated, his voice cutting through the brief silence once more. A flash of sharp awareness gleamed in his blood-red irises.
Although the Poet of Great Love maintained her composure on the surface, her soul betrayed a subtle perturbation for reasons unknown.
"I suggest we visit other corridors first..." she said, her tone level and expression unchanged.
"Now. This instant. Take me there," Baron Sanchez insisted, his voice rising with a hint of irritation. His patience was wearing thin from the Poet of Great Love's meaningless excuses.
The more the acting principal tried to deter him, the stronger his intuition grew—something was amiss there!
"... "
The Poet of Great Love pressed her lips together, her thoughts unspoken. No one knew what was running through her mind.
However, it was evident to all that she harbored a hint of guilt after being seen through by Baron Sanchez.
"If you refuse to lead the way, we will go there ourselves," declared the demon officer standing behind Baron Sanchez, sensing the hostile intent emanating from the school's high-ranking officials. Tensions rose between the teachers and the battalion, with the atmosphere growing increasingly confrontational.
"I'll take you there."
The voice of the Poet of Great Love finally trembled slightly, as if she had resigned herself to the consequences and didn't want to make a bigger fuss.
The vice-principal and the other demon teachers exchanged glances, their eyes filled with hesitation and worry. They seemed to want to dissuade the poet, but in this situation, they didn't know how to broach the subject.
Baron Sanchez's expression remained impassive, but inwardly, he scoffed at the small tricks employed by the female demon before him. With his Blood True Eye, any minute crack in her facade would be instantly exposed.
And so, the entire group turned around and swiftly retraced their steps back to the foundational layer of corridors.
After a few minutes, they arrived at a corridor they had never visited before, without taking any detours.
At the end of the corridor stood a wide door, like a silent giant guarding the entrance.
As the Poet of Great Love and the vice-principal led the way, it seemed as though they intended to push open the door and enter first.
"Wait."
Sanchez stopped them in their tracks.
Upon reaching this point, he had a preliminary sense that there were multiple demon students attending class, and among them seemed to be a soul that resembled a human's!
Baron Sanchez was now certain that this classroom, which appeared to be conducting a normal lesson, was highly suspicious of harboring a human!
No wonder the academy had been so calm at first; they were simply employing a maze-like detour strategy.
"Clear the room."
Sanchez commanded coldly.
"Stand back! Do not take a single step closer to this classroom until the inspection is complete!"
Following Baron Sanchez's instructions, the demon officer unceremoniously ordered the Poet of Great Love to back off, sensing her last-ditch effort to interfere. He then led the elite squad into the classroom to carry out the capture.
Subsequently, Baron Sanchez and the accompanying officers entered the classroom.
Due to the soundproof barrier cast upon the classroom, the corridor outside remained silent, with only the tense beating of hearts and soft breathing audible.
Ten seconds passed...
Thirty seconds...
Two minutes...
No one knew what was happening inside.
Perhaps the human in hiding had been successfully captured, and the school leaders would face dire consequences. Or maybe Baron Sanchez would return empty-handed this time.
However...
There was no sign of movement from within! Neither Baron Sanchez nor the officers showed any indication of coming out.
The escorting demons from the Magic Inspection Bureau, waiting outside, wore confused expressions, unsure of what was transpiring inside.
Just as the corridor began to fill with murmurs and the atmosphere grew tense...
"Heh heh..."
The Poet of Great Love, who had been hanging her head low with a vacant gaze and a somewhat defeated air, suddenly bit her lip and let out a soft laugh.
Finally, she couldn't contain herself any longer and sat down on the floor as if her legs had given out, hugging her stomach and bursting into laughter.
"This... surely you can't blame me, right? He insisted on entering this classroom, and I couldn't stop him even if I tried!"
The Poet of Great Love wiped away the tears of schadenfreude from the corners of her eyes and addressed the demons with a triumphant smile, her face radiant with joy.
This classroom on Corridor G24...
Was the disaster area where Lanchi had previously triggered a hellish nuclear fusion—the [Demon King's Blessed Theater]!
Even now, the music was still playing inside, repeating endlessly.
Apart from the Music Department Director, who possessed extremely high magic resistance to sound, any living being who entered would be trapped indefinitely!
