Chapter 77: The Invisibility Cloak
Chapter 77: The Invisibility Cloak
"It's a pity. If the Disillusionment Charm could last longer, we could cast it on a cloak and make an Invisibility Cloak." Lee Jordan gazed at the towel that had lost its magic, feeling rather disappointed.
If only he had an Invisibility Cloak, the entire Hogwarts Castle would be open to him.
Lee Jordan wasn't opposed to the idea of a night stroll, but he was the type of Gryffindor who would consider the consequences of his actions first; bravery without recklessness.
"Once I return this book, you can borrow it again to practice the Disillusionment Charm by yourself." Albert noticed the expression on his face and smiled, "The Disillusionment Charm can be cast directly on people, do you want to give it a try?"
"You haven't tried it on yourself?" Lee Jordan asked warily.
"No, I haven't," Albert replied.
"Then forget it." Lee Jordan said in a huff, "Only when you've tried it on yourself first, then I'll consider it."
"How about you two?" Albert turned to the Weasley twins with a mischievous grin.
The two shuddered involuntarily and shook their heads in unison, "No, no thanks."
"What a shame."
"Nothing to be ashamed about," the three said in unison.
"An Invisibility Cloak, huh? Well, making a low-quality one isn't that difficult." Albert pulled out a cloak from his trunk, waved his wand at it, and the cloak instantly blended into the surroundings as if it had disappeared.
Albert picked up the Invisibility Cloak and draped it over himself. "What do you think?"
"Wow, it's gone!"
"It's a real Invisibility Cloak!"
The three chose to temporarily ignore the duration of the Disillusionment Charm, immersing themselves in the excitement of seeing an Invisibility Cloak for the first time.
Albert lowered his head, and only his head seemed to be floating in mid-air, his body completely invisible.
"Let me try it," George urged.
Albert took off the cloak and handed it to George, who eagerly draped it over himself, making sure to wrap up tightly.
The next moment, George vanished from the room.
Albert's Disillusionment Charm still had its flaws, but if one didn't look closely, it would take a while to notice anything amiss.
"My turn." Lee Jordan reached out and waved his hands randomly in the air, as if searching for something with his eyes closed.
"Guess where I am?"
"Ahem, Accio!" Albert raised his wand and cast the Summoning Charm in the direction of the voice. George, who had been hidden under the Invisibility Cloak, immediately appeared before the three of them.
They quietly watched George move slowly, trying his best not to make a sound. But in the end, Fred couldn't hold back his laughter.
"Why did the invisibility effect disappear?" George was startled by Fred's laughter and then remembered Albert's previous spell. He stuck his head out of the cloak and immediately noticed that the Invisibility Cloak had failed.
"It's the Revealing Charm," Albert patted George's shoulder, "Invisibility Cloaks made with spells can easily be countered by other spells. More valuable Invisibility Cloaks are usually made from the hair of invisible creatures, but even those will lose their invisibility effect over time."
In Albert's memory, the only true Invisibility Cloak was the one owned by Harry Potter.
As for the Invisibility Cloak made with the Disillusionment Charm, it was nothing special and might not even be considered an alchemical item.
What did alchemical items look like anyway? In Albert's memory, items like the Deluminator, the Mirror of Erised, the Pensieve, the Golden Snitch, and the Goblet of Fire... those were true alchemical items.
Just like potions, alchemy should be a form of magic.
Speaking of which, it was surprising that Hogwarts didn't teach alchemy.
He still hadn't made any progress on his task to become a magic lamp inventor.
"Albert, Albert?"
As he was deep in thought, Albert heard someone calling his name. He snapped out of his reverie and asked, "What is it?"
"Why did you suddenly space out?"
The three of them were speechless. They were having a good conversation, and then he suddenly stopped talking.
"It's nothing. I was just thinking that since we can use the Disillusionment Charm on objects, what about other spells?" Albert picked up his wand and tried to light up the crumpled ball of paper that used to be the Prophet, but nothing happened.
"What are you doing?" George asked, confused.
"I'm trying to make this paper ball glow."
"And?"
"You didn't see it?" Albert said in a huff. Of course, it didn't work, or maybe his spellcasting level wasn't high enough.
"Why are you trying this?" Fred asked, perplexed.
"Haven't you noticed that the prank items we bought from Zonko's joke shop all use spells?"
"That makes sense." The three immediately thought of the Invisibility Cloak they had just seen.
"Armor protection." Albert began to try adding a protective charm to the paper ball to see if he could give it the effect of the Ironskin Charm.
However, there was still no reaction.
"What are you doing now?" Lee Jordan asked.
"I'm trying to cast the Ironskin Charm on this paper ball."
"An Ironskin Charm on a piece of paper?" The three of them were still confused and didn't understand what Albert was trying to do.
"So... did it work?"
"I don't know. You hold it, and I'll try." Albert stuffed the paper ball into Fred's hand and asked him to hold it up.
"Hey, hey, wait a minute. You're not going to cast a spell on me, are you?" Fred hurriedly shouted.
"No, I'm going to use this to test." Albert grabbed a pillow and threw it at Fred, smacking him in the face.
"Looks like your Ironskin Charm didn't work!" Fred glared at Albert with a resentful look.
"As expected," Albert wasn't surprised. His magical power wasn't strong enough yet, and whether he could use magic to modify items was still up for research.
"So, you definitely did that on purpose just now." Fred threw a pillow at Albert's face, laughing triumphantly. But before he could enjoy his victory, Lee Jordan smacked him in the face with another pillow, and George joined in, turning the room into a pillow fight arena.
After a while, the four of them calmed down.
"All right, I'm a bit tired. I'm going to bed." Albert yawned and lay down on the bed, ready to sleep.
"Good night."
"Good night."
"If we could make some protective items, they would probably sell well, especially during this time when Voldemort is rampant, and everyone feels insecure." A sudden thought popped into Albert's mind.
It was not advisable to try to exchange Muggle money for Galleons. The goblins at Gringotts had made it clear that, in theory, they would not allow people to exchange large amounts of Galleons for pounds.
This was understandable. Wizards rarely needed to use pounds, and there was little interaction between the two worlds, except for wizards who frequently dealt with Muggles.
Come to think of it, the Ministry of Magic seemed to have a similar department.
Albert lightly patted his forehead. Unconsciously, he was thinking about money again. He didn't consider himself greedy, but he had to admit that being penniless made it difficult to get by.
The wizarding world was no exception.
Just as Albert was about to fall asleep, he heard some movement in the room. The twins were tiptoeing, apparently planning to sneak out for their night stroll.
"Be careful, don't let the Fat Lady catch you outside the common room." Albert offered a reminder but didn't try to stop them. After all, they had the Marauder's Map, so unless they did something foolish, they wouldn't be caught by Filch.
