Chapter 77: Might Guy's New Mission
Chapter 77: Might Guy's New Mission
"Guy, you're looking particularly energetic today." On Sunday morning, Mu Yue arrived at their usual training ground and found that Might Guy had already begun his regimen, squatting with a large stone in hand.
"I've been thinking about what you said, Teacher Mu Yue," Guy began, "about how battling against strong opponents head-on helps translate training results into true strength. So, last night..."
Guy proceeded to tell Mu Yue about his defeat at the hands of Kakashi the previous evening.
"I'm glad you took my words to heart," Mu Yue said with a smile. "If you continue to work hard from now on, I believe you will surpass your dearest friend and become the strongest. You are, after all, a genius of effort!"
"A genius of effort," Guy repeated, his posture straightening with pride as he felt those words suited him perfectly.
"With your guidance, Teacher Mu Yue, I'm confident in my path to becoming the strongest!" Guy exclaimed with a brilliant smile.
The more Guy reflected on the changes he had undergone, the more he realized the importance of Mu Yue's influence.
In fact, after being Mu Yue's disciple for so long, even someone as slow on the uptake as Guy and Obito began to sense that something was amiss. The power Mu Yue displayed was far beyond what a typical Jonin teacher should possess.
However, Guy didn't dwell on this discrepancy. He could feel that Mu Yue genuinely cared for him and wanted him to improve. Every time he and his fellow disciples made noticeable progress, Mu Yue seemed even happier than they were.
Aside from Mu Yue, the only other person he had seen exhibit such behavior was his father.
"With your teachings, Teacher Mu Yue, I will defeat Kakashi one day!" Guy declared, his confidence bolstered by his faith in both himself and his teacher.
[Disciple Might Guy's Customized Training Mission]
[Training Mission: Defeat Kakashi]
[Reward: Varies depending on mission completion and strength improvement during the mission]
As the long-awaited training mission finally appeared, Mu Yue nodded to herself. Her understanding of the trigger mechanism for these training missions was indeed correct.
It had been over two months since the first training mission was triggered, and through constant probing, Mu Yue had learned some of the conditions for these missions.
The training missions seemed to be largely influenced by the disciples' subjective intentions. Situations like Guy's and Obito's, where they had a clear desire to improve and a specific target to surpass, were more likely to trigger a mission. In contrast, someone like Shisui, who was already exceptionally powerful among his peers, didn't have the same driving force, and thus it was more difficult for him to trigger a mission.
Mu Yue had once tried to guide Shisui into triggering a training mission, but despite her efforts, she couldn't succeed. She speculated that the system might not facilitate long-term, overarching goals. Otherwise, given Shisui's personality, it was entirely possible that he could have ended up with a mission related to changing the Uchiha clan's dire situation.
Alternatively, it could be that their trust level wasn't high enough yet. Mu Yue surmised that a trust level of three was required to unlock training missions, and she wondered if a new threshold would be reached at trust level four.
Even though Shisui hadn't triggered a training mission yet, Mu Yue still considered him a valuable disciple. Perhaps it was due to his innate talent or his dedication to training, but Shisui's chakra growth was remarkable. Currently, he received the most chakra-enhancing pills from Mu Yue out of all her disciples, even more than Obito and Guy combined.
Additionally, Shisui was the only disciple so far who had triggered a strength improvement reward.
Mu Yue estimated that it would still take some time for Obito and Guy to reach a similar milestone.
Not long after, Shisui also arrived to begin his training for the day.
With all three disciples present, Mu Yue called them together and commenced her lesson.
"You need to dodge quickly while maintaining your forward momentum," Obito said to himself as he practiced altering his chakra nature, thinking about how to solve this problem.
If he didn't resolve the issues he had encountered before, even if he went for another challenge, he would just end up with three more test papers.
"I should probably start running at night to train my legs," Obito said, thinking that strengthening his legs could be the solution.
Stronger legs would not only make him run faster but also help him endure better when using chakra.
...
With Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, taking the lead, the arrangements for the summer training camp were quickly finalized.
The decision was made that all fourth-grade students, barring exceptional circumstances, would return to school for the special training. Outstanding students from other grades could choose to decline the invitation.
The primary focus of this training was not on the graduating genin or the outstanding students from other grades but on the fourth-grade students who would be graduating soon.
Teachers from the Ninja Academy went door-to-door to notify the students and communicate with their parents.
Mu Yue believed that in the cruel world of ninjas, no parent would refuse the opportunity for their child to become stronger.
Even though the Ninja Academy textbooks glorified the life of a ninja, it remained an extremely dangerous profession.
News of the Third Kazekage's disappearance had spread throughout Konoha, and anyone with a basic understanding of the current state of the ninja world knew that a major war was imminent.
Coupled with the recent friction between Kumogakure and Konoha, it was highly unlikely that Konoha would be able to stay out of the conflict.
Mu Yue was given the responsibility to select the outstanding students from each grade, choosing eight from each. He instructed the teachers to base their selections on the students' practical exam scores.
Due to Mu Yue's strong influence in Class 1, four students from his class were selected: Itachi, Anko Mitarashi, Kotetsu Hagane, and Izuna Uchiha.
Anko wasn't sure how the others felt, but when the teacher came to her house to inform her that she would have to attend another month of summer training, she was completely bewildered.
Her vacation had barely begun, and now she had to go back to school again.
What consoled Anko was that this summer training would focus solely on practical combat, without any theoretical classes, and that her favorite teacher, Mu Yue, would be the one instructing them.
Almost none of the outstanding students from the other grades refused the invitation.
On the other hand, very few graduating genin applied to join the special training—only about a dozen or so.
Mu Yue could understand their reluctance. After all, most people would probably trust their post-graduation mentors more than the Ninja Academy jounin teachers.
Having a suspicious superior could be troublesome.
Because of this summer training camp, Mu Yue made a special report to Danzo, briefing him on the entire process.
After all, it wasn't a small matter—it was the first time the Ninja Academy had held a summer training camp, and they had even sent out notifications to the graduating genin.
Danzo seemed to think that Mu Yue had performed exceptionally well, and along with his reply, he rewarded Mu Yue with a Root training secret medicine.
In his response, Danzo instructed Mu Yue to perform even better and impress the Third Hokage enough to promote him directly to Special Jonin. The rest of the message contained some meaningless PUA content.
Mu Yue could only think that the original owner of his body might have felt touched by Danzo's words, but all it did for him was increase his hatred for the man.
He disliked Danzo so much that he didn't even want to use the secret medicine he had been given as a reward.
