Chapter 769: I'll Accompany You on a Guild Mission
Chapter 769: I'll Accompany You on a Guild Mission
Elsa began to tell her story to Mebis, who listened intently. With her big, curious eyes, Mebis lay on the sofa, propping her cheeks up with her small hands and swinging her delicate, petite feet to and fro.
Feng Ye returned to his study, placing the book back on the shelf before exiting the room. Greeting Mebis and Elsa casually, he stepped out into the courtyard.
Wendy glanced at Feng Ye and then at Elsa and Mebis. After a brief hesitation, she put on her slippers and walked to the courtyard door, looking up at Feng Ye with a charming smile on her face.
"What's got you so cheerful?" Feng Ye asked, watering the flowers with a watering can and smiling at her.
With a smile on her face, Wendy replied, "It's nothing. I just feel reassured and happy when you're around, Brother Feng Ye."
"It can be pretty stressful doing guild missions alone, huh?" Feng Ye remarked, chuckling at her expression. He walked closer and ruffled her hair affectionately.
Wendy nodded, her hands fidgeting as she twisted them together. "Yes, when I'm by myself, I worry about failing the mission. It's not as reassuring as when we're all together."
"But you still need to grow and learn, don't you?" Feng Ye said with a smile.
Upon hearing his words, a flush crept across Wendy's cheeks, and she lowered her head, feeling too shy to meet his gaze. Steam rose from her head as her face heated up.
Feng Ye's curiosity got the better of him, and he took a peek into her thoughts, only to find himself unable to hold back his amusement. He burst out laughing.
"...I don't want to grow up too fast, but I wish my chest would grow a little," he heard.
"...If I don't grow up, I'll always just be like a little sister to Brother Feng Ye," was another of her thoughts.
Her little head was filled with all sorts of random, adorable musings.
Feng Ye shook his head, still smiling, realizing that Wendy had been influenced by the environment created by Elsa, Mira, and the others. She wasn't as innocent as she used to be.
"Alright," he said, his tone indulgent. "As a reward for successfully completing a solo mission, I'll accompany you on your next one. You can choose any mission you like."
Feng Ye's offer was filled with a gentle, doting air as he spoke to Wendy.
Even though little Wendy wasn't as innocent as before, she was still adorable, and cuteness was a treasure in this world.
"Eh?!" Wendy exclaimed, her embarrassment momentarily forgotten as she looked at Feng Ye in surprise. Her eyes lit up with joy, and she asked, "Really?"
Feng Ye pinched her cheek gently. "When have I ever lied to you?"
"But won't I be bothering you, Brother Feng Ye?" Wendy asked timidly.
Feng Ye offered her a warm smile. "Not at all. I don't have anything pressing to do right now, and I haven't for a long time. I plan to take it easy for a while, and doing guild missions is well within my idea of relaxation."
Wendy nodded in understanding. Given Feng Ye's status as a legendary wizard, any mission would undoubtedly be effortless for him, making it a leisurely activity.
Wendy fiddled with her fingers nervously. "Then, can I go choose a mission now?"
"Go ahead," Feng Ye said, smiling at her.
Excitement flashed in Wendy's large eyes, and she began to run out of the courtyard, forgetting she was still wearing her slippers. After a couple of steps, she stumbled and fell forward.
"Ah... well... I was just a little too excited..."
Wendy steadied herself and landed back on the ground, looking embarrassed. She quickly ran back into the house, changed into her shoes, and then dashed off again toward the guild.
"I'm going to take on a quest!"
Mebis looked toward Feng Ye, her big eyes curved like crescents. "I haven't taken on a quest in a long time. It'll be so much fun."
"You should get familiar with the guild a hundred years from now first," Feng Ye suggested, gently tapping Mebis's forehead with his index finger and smiling. "I'll take you next time."
As soon as he finished speaking, Elsa glanced at him silently.
Feng Ye sighed at the look, feeling both helpless and amused. "Fine, you can take turns. Decide the order between yourselves, or you can go together, but only once."
"Then next time, it's the First Master!"
Elsa smiled but didn't argue with Mebis over this.
Mebis narrowed her big eyes and nodded in agreement.
Feng Ye smiled faintly, then turned his attention back to watering the flowers in the garden with a watering can. He glanced toward the guild and, after a moment, his lips twitched slightly.
"Picking a quest... that's pretty smart."
...
Inside the guild, Wendy scampered in and first checked the notice board on the first floor. After some thought, she scampered upstairs to the second floor.
Makarov saw Wendy's actions and found them a bit odd, but he didn't immediately reprimand her. After all, everyone knew Wendy's personality, and she wasn't the type to cause trouble like Natsu.
"Wendy?"
Mira curiously looked at Wendy.
Wendy replied obediently, "Brother Feng Ye wants to pick a quest. He said I could choose any one, so I guess that means I can choose one from the second floor too, right?"
"How can you pick a quest for someone else... Oh, it's for Feng Ye, then never mind."
Makarov relaxed his demeanor.
In this guild, Feng Ye was indeed qualified to choose any quest he wanted.
Knowing Feng Ye's identity, Wendy was also aware that even the most difficult century-old tasks would pose no challenge to him. However, she didn't want to choose the most challenging quest. She was actually quite clever. Since she could select a quest, she figured that the best option would be to choose one that took the longest amount of time.
That way, she could spend more time with Feng Ye.
"Hmm... This one should be good."
After browsing for a moment, Wendy finally selected an S-class quest.
The quest involved merchant ships traveling between the eastern and western continents that had encountered problems on four separate occasions for unknown reasons. The guild was requested to send someone to investigate the matter on the western continent.
Wendy wasn't very familiar with the western continent, but since they would be leaving Ishgar, it would surely be a distant place. This way, not only would Brother Feng Ye accompany her on the quest, but it would also turn into a long-distance journey.
"This should be fine," Wendy mumbled to herself as she carefully examined the quest details once more. Finally, she smiled and, after bidding Makarov goodbye, rushed out of the guild, holding the quest details close to her heart.
"A quest for the western continent... that kid..."
Makarov glanced at the quest details and then looked away. Since it was a quest that Feng Ye would be taking on, and although the journey would be long, it was only an S-class quest, so there was no need to worry.
