Chapter 768: Hurricane Fortress
Chapter 768: Hurricane Fortress
Lindsey and Arona soared through the sky at incredible speeds.
For the first time, they experienced the boundless freedom of flight, the breathtaking high-altitude view, and the exhilarating rush of the wind, all of which unconsciously lifted their spirits.
The Storm Elementals were naturally gifted with the ability to fly.
With their immense power, they could carry humans like Lindsey and maintain their speed in the air.
Thus, the group completely ignored the cloud island and void bridge system of the Dust Path World.
With the nearby spatial stability, there was no fear of being suddenly teleported away, and their progress was almost a thousand miles a day.
The only issue was an unexpected interlude.
As Lindsey was carried by the Storm Elementals, he overheard a conversation among his remaining Elemental Beings. Apparently, they didn't want to hide anything from their newly-allied forces and even used the common language of humans for their discussion:
"When we passed by just now, I felt like something was off about those clouds in the middle," one said.
"It's as if there's an emptiness within," another replied.
"Maybe some changes have occurred since it's been abandoned for so long!"
"... "
Even though their forms were restored, they could still sense something amiss! Lindsey's heart sank.
Fortunately, the Storm Elementals didn't continue this line of discussion.
Instead, they began to express their concerns about the Feathered Serpent.
"Why do you think that evil deity has appeared now?"
"It must be because of the war in the City of Law that it found an opportunity to break free from its ancient seal."
"What happened centuries ago is now repeating in the sky, and it's rare for any wind to blow away such a long span of time."
"That's why the Ancients possess wisdom beyond our understanding."
Lindsey quietly listened to the Storm Elementals' conversation.
Aside from learning about their unease regarding the Feathered Serpent, he also gradually became aware of their various habits.
These Elemental Beings were born on the Cloud Island and then moved with the wind.
They had no concept of death.
However, when confined in enclosed spaces with restricted airflow, they would gradually weaken and eventually merge into the omnipresent air.
Or perhaps one day, they would find a harmonious current among the mountain winds and willingly merge into it, disappearing from sight.
Then, the conversation turned to the battle in the world's core.
The information Lindsey had received earlier was entirely accurate.
The peculiar item causing spatial chaos was in the possession of an incredibly powerful Storm Elemental leader.
The term 'leader' wasn't entirely accurate, though.
The Storm Elementals valued freedom and united to roam a broader world, sharing their experiences and knowledge.
This so-called leader was, in fact, the oldest hurricane blowing in the Dust Path World.
The reason it caused spatial chaos in the world's core was due to the Awakened ones of the Seventh Stage clashing, with the power of rules starting to affect the world. To prevent this influence from spreading endlessly and ultimately leading to the world's collapse, the peculiar item in its possession contained the changes within the Inner Ring World.
The Dust Path World had once faced destruction but was protected by the Righteous Guardians of the City of Law, allowing it to continue existing in its current state.
Therefore, the Inner Ring World had to be even more cautious with the fires of war that ordinary worlds could withstand.
At this point, Lindsey's curiosity got the better of him, and he asked the Storm Elemental beneath him, "Elemental Beings and humans are two different species with little interaction.
"You can fly freely in the sky without landing. There's no reason to jeopardize human safety for that, is there?"
The Storm Elemental beneath Lindsey shuddered:
"Haha, this world is our birthplace and home."
"Moreover, in the past, when the Dust Path World was on the verge of collapse, it was the humans from the City of Law who stabilized the world. Humans may forget such things, but we understand the principle of gratitude."
"..."
This answer left Lindsey speechless.
He never imagined that these elemental beings would cause today's situation for such a reason.
Especially since these Storm Elementals were so friendly.
Even if it was a matter of personal choice, Lindsey couldn't bring himself to kill these freedom-loving beings just to craft a magic rune equipment.
The Storm Elementals continued flying in the sky.
Lindsey and Arona rode on their backs, and as the team entered the sky shrouded in dark clouds, the surrounding air became more humid, and the temperature dropped sharply.
During this time, Lindsey's Sky Compass rang several times.
In the central region of the world, consecutive Cloud Islands also appeared more frequently. However, as it was inconvenient for him to collect resources at the moment, he had no choice but to keep quiet and continue forward, led by the Storm Elementals.
About half a day later, something unexpected happened.
The Essence aura of the Seventh Stage Awakened, which had been getting closer, suddenly started to move downward.
"Below?"
Lindsey thought for a moment and realized,
"It's not that the Awakened's position is moving downward, but we're moving upward!"
The Storm Elemental beneath Lindsey immediately replied:
"That's right. Humans need to stand on the earth to survive."
"But for us, the free and open sky is more comfortable. We only go to the mountains and plains to scratch our bodies when we feel itchy!"
The group did not continue to the Floating Island.
Instead, they went higher and higher, eventually leaving the cloud layer and reaching the uppermost heights.
The sun's rays poured down from above, bathing Lindsey and Arona in its intense light.
Their clothes, damp from the rain, began to warm up, making them feel both wet and hot.
"..."
Lindsey shielded his eyes from the sun with his hand.
He saw a massive hurricane spinning rapidly in the sky, creating a terrifying shadow that resembled both a typhoon and a tornado. Even the sunlight in the air was rapidly distorted by it, causing the surrounding sky to darken.
Lindsey blinked.
He initially thought that this was the Hurricane Fortress he had heard about.
Suddenly, a memory stirred, and he recalled more.
He had heard this term before.
The first time was in the Hidden Frontier, in the notes left by the expedition members, where there was a mention of an Awakened's skill called Hurricane Fortress. The second time was in the legends of the Heroic Era.
There was a story of a hero who fought against a Deity, and this battle took place within the Hurricane Fortress!
