Chapter 766: Searching the Study
Chapter 766: Searching the Study
Although Gorden was advanced in years, as the leader of the Pacific Nation, he was a trusted ally of the United Government and always cooperated fully with its directives.
Under his efforts, the immigrant and native populations had reached a temporary truce, agreeing to set aside their grievances and unite against the alien invasion, prioritizing the fight against the extraterrestrial civilizations.
But now, he was a traitor! This revelation left Zhong Feng utterly bewildered.
Leaders like Gorden had to undergo a High-Level Thought Test. (The "High-Level Thought Test" involved three different players, each a cleric from a different region, using the [Mind Steal] ability to search through their memories and ensure there were no subversive thoughts.) If Gorden had truly gathered so many defectors as the files suggested, how had he passed the "High-Level Thought Test"?
If the Skrull had discovered a way to bypass the "High-Level Thought Test," did it mean that there were more Blue planet humans who were defectors but had not been discovered by the United Government?
Zhong Feng's thoughts grew darker and more fearful. The more he thought about it, the more complex the situation seemed. However, now was not the time to ponder these questions.
He was in a precarious position and needed to focus on the task at hand. He would have to wait until he returned to analyze these matters in depth.
Zhong Feng forced himself to calm down, using a slightly trembling camera to photograph the contents of the red folder. Then, he continued to search through the desk drawers and the bookshelves behind the desk.
...
It took him over two hours to thoroughly search the desk and the bookshelves behind it.
He didn't read the files in detail, but just from their titles, he felt he had gained significant insights.
Among the files were detailed investigative reports by Su Yu and comprehensive information about the Evolution game.
From the Skrull files, Zhong Feng learned that Rambau had originally been cuckolded by Manina, which led to his brutal treatment.
Additionally, the files revealed several strategic policies of the Leryang Empire toward other Skrull nations.
For the smaller nations around the Leryang Empire, the empire planned to use economic and cultural dominance to subdue them, followed by a "financial scythe" to reap the benefits.
For their greatest enemy, the Runkte Alliance, Manina had secretly funded far-left factions within Runkte, pushing issues like minority rights, climate change, and vegetarianism.
These campaigns had been highly successful.
With the Leryang Empire's substantial investment, the political climate within Runkte had become increasingly extreme.
During his last visit to the Runkte capital, Su Yu had used a driver's license with a "female gender identity" to gain access, as the "priority for minority groups" had become deeply ingrained in Runkte society.
...
Besides the Leryang Empire's strategies toward other nations, Zhong Feng also discovered the origins of the "Civilization Ascension" plan, finally understanding why the blue planet and the Skrull planet were at war.
However, the information he most desperately sought—whether the decline in the Dragon Clan's reproductive capabilities was related to the Leryang Empire—he could not find.
As he flipped through the last of the files, he let out a quiet sigh, thinking to himself, "At this point, there are only two possibilities.
One is that the decline in the Dragon Clan's reproductive capabilities is truly unrelated to the Skrull.
The other is that it is related, but the relevant files are not in the study, but in another location."
Both possibilities seemed equally likely.
Zhong Feng realized that Manina's desk and the bookshelves behind it mostly contained recent files, no older than a year or two.
The files related to the Dragon Clan's reproductive capabilities were likely too old to be here, and he might need to visit the "archives" to find them.
The Archive Room is where Manina stores old documents. Should Zhongfeng check it out?
Even if he doesn't, he's already gained a lot from this visit.
Zhongfeng fell into deep thought.
After a few seconds of contemplation, Zhongfeng decided to investigate the Archive Room.
His primary goal for visiting Skrul was to investigate the dragon reproduction issue. How could he give up halfway?
"Besides, Manina and his men won't be back for another five hours. I can leave the palace before they return."
With his decision made, he quickly left the study and headed toward the Archive Room, which was not far from the study.
However, Zhongfeng didn't expect Manina to return earlier than anticipated.
As soon as Zhongfeng left the study, the spatial rift above Sun City, which had been contracting and fluctuating, suddenly twisted irregularly.
Immediately, Manina XIII emerged from the spatial rift.
The spatial rift was still contracting and oscillating, but this only effectively hindered Eighth-Class powerhouses. It didn't impede Seventh-Class beings.
This was similar to when Su Yu and his team attacked the giant spring in the Da Gaosu Mountains. The Seventh-Class commander, Haidun Leryang, could pass through the oscillating and contracting spatial rift, but the Eighth-Class beings on the other side couldn't.
Manina didn't want to stay on Blue Star for too long, so he soon returned to his home planet.
Zhongfeng was unaware that Manina had already returned to Skrul.
Of course, Manina was also unaware that Zhongfeng had visited his study.
Upon his return, Manina directly flew to Lance's office.
Lance was handling official duties in his office.
However, since the expeditionary force had been on the defensive recently, his workload wasn't heavy.
Seeing the emperor arrive, Lance quickly stood up and bowed to Manina, "Your Majesty, it's an honor to see you. Your radiance will forever shine upon Skrul!"
Manina smiled and nodded, walking forward to pat Lance's shoulder, "We don't need to be so formal. Lance, I've been praising you to our ancestors, saying you are the future hope of the Leryang Empire. Don't let us down!"
"Rest assured, Your Majesty," Lance's face flushed with excitement, "I will strive to improve. The empire's honor is my honor, and I am willing to dedicate my life to its glory!"
"Good, I have high hopes for you!" Manina patted Lance's shoulder again, satisfied, "In another 300 years, you'll reach the heights of Lord Plante!"
The two of them chatted a bit more.
After giving Lance ample encouragement, Manina prepared to leave.
He called out loudly, "Sylan."
Drip!
Lance's office AI system immediately activated, addressing Manina, "Your Majesty, I am the AI system 'Sylan' of the expeditionary force headquarters. How may I assist you?"
"Sylan, inform Intelligence Minister Ciwen that I have returned. Ask him to meet me in my study immediately."
"Understood. Do you need anything else?"
"No."
"Very well, Intelligence Minister Ciwen has been notified."
Sylan's response was followed by the disappearance of the 3D projection panel that had just appeared.
Manina also left Lance's office, heading back to the palace to rest.
