Chapter 764: Career Choices
Chapter 764: Career Choices
Dear Albert, Buckbeak's case has been successfully appealed, and the committee will be holding a new hearing on April 10th. I don't know when you're free, but do come over for tea sometime and let's chat about this matter.
Please send my owl a reply.
- Hagrid Albert took a pen from his robe pocket and wrote on the back of the note: "7 p.m. tonight."
Then, he sent the owl off with the note.
"Who's it from?"
"Hagrid. He's invited me for tea, and asked if I've decided on a career yet." Albert replied.
Albert turned his attention back to his companions, who were browsing through pamphlets and flyers about various magical professions.
"No, I haven't found a suitable job yet," said Shan'na, shaking her head disappointedly as she held a pink and orange flyer. "Most of these magical careers aren't suitable for me. It seems that even for wizards, finding a satisfying job isn't easy."
"I think you should be able to easily handle most jobs, it's just hard to find one that you're satisfied with!" Albert could understand the struggle of Muggle-born wizards trying to find their place in the magical world.
"You can just become a full-time housewife after graduation and not worry about work at all." Aliya teased.
"Have you found anything you like?" Shan'na ignored the comment and asked, "I think you should have more options than me."
"Not yet," replied Aliya, shaking her head. She turned to her friend Angelina, "What about you?"
"I'm considering becoming a professional Quidditch player," said Angelina, her passion for the sport evident. Wood's path might suit her, after all, there were plenty of Quidditch teams in Britain, and they were always on the lookout for new players.
"After retiring, you could also consider becoming a senior Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet," added Albert.
"The Quidditch World Cup is held once every four years. Are any of you going to watch it?" Angelina suddenly asked, "I heard Bulgaria has a famous Seeker."
"I know, his name is Viktor Krum, and he's still in school, apparently," said Lee Jordan excitedly.
"If we can get our hands on tickets, we should go," said Fred dryly.
"That's unlikely," George chimed in, aware of how expensive tickets for the Quidditch World Cup were. It was obvious that their family couldn't afford such a large sum of galleons.
"What about you, Albert?" Angelina asked.
"Me? I can't get my hands on World Cup tickets," Albert shrugged.
Fred, George, and Lee Jordan rolled their eyes, clearly not believing that Albert, with all his connections, couldn't get Quidditch World Cup tickets.
The group enthusiastically discussed the upcoming Quidditch World Cup, while Shan'na sat quietly by herself, looking a little dejected. She couldn't join in on this topic, so she silently looked through the flyers in her hand, deep in thought.
"What are you looking at so intently?" Albert asked with a smile.
"This?"
Shan'na handed the pink and orange flyer to Albert. "Maybe being a Muggle Liaison Officer would suit me."
Albert took the flyer and immediately noticed the prominent slogan: "Are you interested in Muggle Liaison work?"
What's most important is your enthusiasm, patience, and good sense of humor.
He then glanced over the entry requirements for Muggle Liaison, which were the lowest among all the professions—only requiring an O.W.Ls in Muggle Studies.
"I don't think Muggle Liaisons need a sense of humor," said Shan'na, a clear look of distaste on her face. "The Ministry of Magic seems to think this profession is inferior, which is why they only require an O.W.L. in Muggle Studies."
"No, this job is actually very important, but wizards deliberately ignore it," Albert shook his head. "Muggle Liaisons handle the relationship between Muggles and wizards. Most wizards look down on this job purely because of their contempt for Muggles, which is why the situation is as it is."
"What about you? Do you have any plans after graduation?" Shan'na suddenly asked.
"Me? I guess... I'll write a few books!" Albert replied after some thought. "In the coming years, people will need a book that teaches them how to protect themselves."
"Write a book?"
Shan'na was a little surprised, but soon understood. With all of Albert's achievements in various fields, writing a book didn't seem strange at all.
"If you haven't found a job you like, you can consider coming to work for me." Albert invited with a smile, "After all, publishing a book is quite a tedious endeavor, and it would be much easier with some help."
"Thanks, but let's see about that later." Shanna neither agreed nor refused outright. She felt it was unbelievable that Albert would offer her a job.
"I thought you would join them in opening a joke prop shop." Shanna had, of course, heard about the quartet's plan.
"Yes, we're already preparing for it. By the time we graduate, everything should be ready. However, when it comes to the store, I'm mainly providing technical and financial support."
"They're so lucky." Shanna murmured softly, but then recalled Albert's invitation and realized her luck wasn't so bad either.
As for deception, Shanna never even considered it and didn't think Albert would play such a prank on her.
"What are you guys talking about?" Aliya walked over and asked.
"Nothing much, just about our careers after graduation."
"I heard all about it." Angelina laughed, "How's your book on Dark Magic Defense coming along? When will it be published? I'll definitely buy a copy to show my support."
"Haven't started writing it yet." Albert replied helplessly, "It's just an idea for now."
"So, you plan to rope Shanna into helping you with your work." Angelina poked Albert in the chest, "You're not thinking of having her work for free, are you?"
"Do I look like that kind of person?" Albert was speechless.
The girls eyed Albert up and down, as if trying to discern something from his expression.
"Don't be silly. Since Albert plans to publish a book, it means he's confident he can make a big profit." Lee Jordan knew that Albert never embarked on anything without a sure chance of success.
"What about you? What are your plans after graduation?" Aliya asked.
"You'll see. We planned out our future paths a long time ago. As for these flyers, they can go to hell!"
"Where are you getting so many galleons for the shop? Don't tell me it's all coming from Albert." Angelina was also curious, joining the other girls in staring at Albert. Undoubtedly, the only one who could provide such a large sum of startup money was Albert, who had participated in several international competitions and likely earned a substantial amount in prize money.
"We'll soon have a large sum of galleons." Lee Jordan was a bit carried away with himself, and when the three girls glared at him, he coughed lightly and amended his statement, "I mean, you don't understand just how good Albert is at making money. We're not worried about lacking funds at all."
"Are you planning to catch Sirius Black?" Shanna guessed the quartet's plan, "If you can capture Black, you'll get a hefty sum of galleons all at once."
Now that she thought about it, it was something Albert would do.
Albert could easily use the prophecy to locate Sirius Black's possible whereabouts and then ambush him with his three roommates.
Sirius Black was indeed dangerous, but he didn't have a wand at the moment, and Albert obviously wasn't someone to be trifled with... If Black was ambushed by the four of them, there was a good chance he'd be captured for the bounty.
"You really plan to catch Black." Angelina and Aliya were both astonished. In the wizarding world, the notoriously evil Sirius Black had become a money bag in Albert's eyes.
"If we knew where Black was, that wouldn't be a bad idea." George smiled, "After all, the bounty on Black is ten thousand galleons. If we succeed, that would be a nice windfall."
"If Black were that easy to catch, I would have done it myself and claimed the bounty of ten thousand galleons." Albert coughed lightly and corrected, "Also, you're getting off-topic."
In truth, if Albert really wanted to capture Black for the bounty, he could have done so long ago. In his opinion, the experience he'd gain from the task triggered by Black was far more valuable than the so-called reward.
Albert didn't lack money at the moment; he lacked experience. Even though he had a pool of experience yet to be allocated, it would never be enough.
