Chapter 763: Hiding the News?
Chapter 763: Hiding the News?
The Dark Wizards collectively decided to reform and become good people?
Harry and Ginny exchanged glances, both finding it hard to believe.
Ivan didn't feel like explaining much. It wouldn't be wise to tell them that the vicious Dark Wizards in Knockturn Alley had locked themselves up, and the remaining residents, under the supervision of Aurors, had no choice but to try to be good.
That would be too shocking and could cause unnecessary misunderstandings.
However, Ivan hadn't anticipated that The Quibbler would choose to report on the unrest in Knockturn Alley.
Despite the news being filled with fabricated rumors and gossip, most people who read the paper would just dismiss it as a joke.
But Voldemort, enraged, might not care about such trivialities. If he found out that the editor of The Quibbler was spreading lies about him, he would likely order the Death Eaters to capture or eliminate the editor.
Xenophilius, Luna's father, could be in danger, so Ivan couldn't just ignore the situation.
Moreover, suggesting that Luna's father hide in Knockturn Alley also served Ivan's own interests.
Gryson had just established the Department of Propaganda, and Ivan didn't want him to start from scratch.
Although Xenophilius and his articles were unreliable, The Quibbler was still a well-known magical newspaper in Britain and might prove useful.
Luna thought about Ivan's suggestion for a while and then seriously agreed, planning to write a letter that evening.
Ginny, standing nearby, hesitated. She had always found Ivan's ideas dubious but ultimately didn't say anything more.
"By the way, Harry, have you run into any trouble recently? Or did Sirius Black and the others get some wind of a planned attack on you?" Ivan turned to Harry and asked.
He had noticed something was off at the Wizards' station, given that the idle members of the Order of the Phoenix had all come to protect Harry.
Ivan searched his memory and suddenly recalled that in the original timeline, Harry had been attacked by Dementors during the summer, forcing him to use Expecto Patronum. The Ministry of Magic had mistakenly believed he was casting spells outside of school and almost confiscated his wand...
However, under Ivan's gaze, Harry shook his head and said, "No, I've had a pretty good summer. No one has caused me any trouble. It was Sirius Black and the others who insisted on coming along."
Harry seemed uncomfortable as he spoke. He didn't like the feeling of being protected, as it made him feel like a first or second-year student.
Especially this summer, when he had suggested joining the Order of the Phoenix to fight the Death Eaters, Mrs. Weasley and the other members had firmly rejected his request, citing his young age.
"So, the Dark Lord didn't send anyone specifically to attack you?" Ivan was somewhat surprised, muttering to himself.
This was very different from the events in his memory. The more the plot changed, the less reliable his current information became, and it could even mislead him.
For example, last semester, he had followed the plot closely, using it as a clue for his investigations. In the end, he discovered that Mad-Eye Moody and Barty Crouch Jr. were just distractions Voldemort had set up to divert his attention. The real threat was Sirius Black, who had been under the Imperius Curse...
With these precedents, Ivan immediately became wary and asked seriously, "If you didn’t encounter any trouble, why are Sirius Black and the others protecting you so strictly?"
"Professor Dumbledore arranged it. His last order was for Father to protect Harry", Ginny interjected before Harry could respond.
"Dumbledore's... last order?" Ivan keenly sensed that something was off.
Ginny nodded and quickly explained to Ivan. This summer, her entire family had moved to the Safe House, and members of the Order of the Phoenix often came over for meetings.
However, Professor Dumbledore was the exception. He hadn’t been seen for the past two months, and all his instructions were conveyed through Snape.
If not for Fawkes the Phoenix occasionally bringing letters, they would have suspected that Dumbledore had been murdered by Snape.
This suspicion almost led to a fight between Sirius Black and Snape.
Hearing this, Ivan couldn’t help but frown, finding it increasingly suspicious.
Voldemort had just been resurrected two months ago. Logically, Dumbledore should have taken some time this summer to discuss strategies with the core members of the Order of the Phoenix. At the very least, he shouldn’t have disappeared for so long, causing the members to doubt and suspect each other.
Could it be... that his death was being kept secret?
This thought popped into Ivan’s mind. Perhaps Dumbledore had died long ago, but to confuse Voldemort and boost everyone’s morale, only Snape knew the truth.
But if that were the case, why would Dumbledore bother with trivial matters like appointing Prefects?
Ivan was certain that if Dumbledore hadn’t instructed otherwise, Professor Mcgonagall would have given the Gryffindor Prefect position to him.
Or perhaps Dumbledore was still alive but too injured to appear in public...
Various thoughts raced through Ivan’s mind, but his expression remained calm as he continued to probe for more information.
Unfortunately, Harry and Ginny were peripheral members and had very little information, which didn’t help Ivan much.
The four of them chatted casually for about an hour. Eventually, Hermione and Ron, who had completed their patrol duties, joined them, and the small compartment became lively.
Hermione talked non-stop about the Prefects chosen for each house this year. Notably, Malfoy had become the Slytherin Prefect, which Harry and the others found particularly unfair.
Although it wasn’t entirely unexpected...
"Don’t worry, now that Hermione and I are Prefects, Malfoy won’t find it easy to cause us trouble... I might even catch Crabbe and Goyle doing something wrong or find a reason to give them detention", Ron said confidently.
"You shouldn’t abuse your power, Ron!" Hermione scolded him, never thinking he was a good candidate for Prefect.
The train chugged northward, and as the sky darkened, Hogwarts Castle came into view in the distance.
Ivan changed into his school uniform and carried his trunk off the train. Harry, Hermione, and Luna soon followed, and they all climbed into the carriages pulled by Thestrals, which rattled along the path toward the castle.
