Chapter 761: This Must Be Another Test of Friendship and Love
Chapter 761: This Must Be Another Test of Friendship and Love
"Where's your badge, Ivan?" Hermione put away her Prefect Badge and looked at Ivan, asking.
"I don't know. I haven't received a letter like that. Maybe Professor Dumbledore intends to make someone else a Prefect..." Ivan shook his head, hesitantly replying.
"That's impossible. Prefects are usually the best students in their fifth year!" Hermione said with certainty.
"You're a recipient of the Order of Merlin, First Class, and you defeated the champions from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang last year, winning the Triwizard Cup for Hogwarts. There's no one more outstanding in the entire school..."
The young witch spoke at length about Ivan's achievements, then speculated that perhaps the owl delivering the letter couldn't find him, causing the delay.
This theory seemed plausible to Hermione, given Ivan's mysterious whereabouts during the summer. Each time she sent him a letter, it took several days to get a response.
Harry, George, Fred, and the others nodded in agreement, finding Hermione's guess reasonable.
Just as everyone was thinking this, a voice suddenly broke the silence.
"Um... the letter is here with me..."
Everyone turned their heads in confusion and saw that it was Ron speaking. He slowly reached into his wizard robes, pulling out a crumpled letter and a gold and red badge.
"Ron, why do you have this letter? Did the owl not find Ivan, so it delivered both letters to you? Why didn't you tell us sooner?" George took the letter and badge, curious.
"No, no, it's addressed to me!" Ron's face turned bright red, stammering.
George was taken aback, thinking Ron was joking. But after a quick glance at the letter, he was surprised to see Ron's name at the end.
"Good heavens, how is this possible! Ron is going to be a Prefect?" George's eyes widened, and he held the letter up to the light, as if trying to verify its authenticity.
"You must be joking, George?" Fred was equally shocked, snatching the letter from George to read it. After confirming the content, he shouted in surprise.
"There's no way. Professor Mcgonagall must have made a mistake. Who in their right mind would choose Ron as a Prefect?"
Harry and the others gathered around to examine the letter. When it reached Mrs. Weasley's hands, she let out a loud gasp, her face a mix of shock and delight. However, after glancing at Ivan, a hint of suspicion crept into her gaze when she looked at Ron.
George and Fred, now free-handed, stared at Ron with a peculiar expression, as if he had just pulled off a prank.
Sirius Black stepped forward, tapped the letter with his wand, and after a brief inspection, said, "The letter hasn't been magically altered. It's not a prank..."
"But why would the professors choose Ron to be a Prefect? This is too strange", George muttered.
Everyone turned their attention to Ron. Under their scrutiny, his face turned pale and then flushed, finally muttering, "How should I know? Maybe... maybe it was sent to the wrong person. But it has my name on it, so how could it be wrong?"
"The letter is definitely not addressed to the wrong person. You're going to be a Prefect, Ron... congratulations!" Ivan pushed past George and the others, looking at the dejected Ron and said.
"Congratulations?" Ron's mind seemed to struggle to process the information. His face changed rapidly as he stammered, "But... but... are you not upset with me?"
In fact, this morning when he received the Prefect appointment letter, he was genuinely taken aback. After all, no matter how you looked at it, Ivan seemed much more suitable for the role...
Not to mention Harry. They were both Hogwarts Champions, so it should have been their turn.
It was precisely because of this that Ron had not shown the letter and badge to anyone, as he felt like he had somehow stolen the Prefect position...
"Why are you blaming yourself, Ron? I’m not a Prefect, and the professors didn’t send me any letters... Perhaps Headmaster Dumbledore thought you were better suited to be a Prefect." Ivan shrugged and smiled.
Although he didn’t understand why Dumbledore had chosen Ron as the Gryffindor Prefect, he guessed it was another test of friendship and love...
The thought that Dumbledore still had the time to orchestrate such intricate schemes made Ivan sigh in relief. It seemed this year’s opening feast wouldn’t turn into a funeral.
As for the Gryffindor Prefect position?
Ivan didn’t care much about it. This semester, he was already busy searching for Hogwarts’ Magic Power Storage Room and practicing Enchantment Magic. He had no time to manage a group of reckless, trouble-prone Gryffindor cubs...
"You’re amazing, Ron!" After Ivan expressed his congratulations, Arthur Weasley realized how much their earlier doubt must have hurt Ron. He immediately stepped forward and gave him a big hug.
Lupin, Harry, Sirius Black, and others soon caught on and came forward to offer their congratulations. Mrs. Weasley was so delighted that she kissed him several times.
Only George and Fred insisted that the letter must have been sent to the wrong person. They thought that once they got to school, they might find out it was just one of Headmaster Dumbledore’s pranks...
Ron ignored their snide remarks. After being kissed in public by Mrs. Weasley, his pale face turned bright red, and he awkwardly wriggled free, saying, "Stop it, Mum, I’m not a kid anymore."
"Tell me, what reward do you want? When Percy became a Prefect, we got him an owl, but you already have one. You can choose something else." Mrs. Weasley let go of Ron and asked happily.
"R-reward?" Ron couldn’t believe his ears.
Once he confirmed he hadn’t misheard, he immediately started thinking.
A brand new dress robe? Or maybe a new cauldron to replace the rusty old one? Or a new broom?
Hmm...
The sudden roar of the train interrupted Ron’s thoughts. Arthur Weasley glanced at his wristwatch and hurriedly urged them, "Ron, you can think about it once you get to school. We don’t have time to waste now. Everyone, get on the train quickly..."
At Arthur’s reminder, Ivan and the others hurriedly said their goodbyes and boarded the train with their trunks.
As they were searching for an empty compartment, they suddenly saw three familiar figures walking towards them...
"Malfoy?" Malfoy, who was leading the way, hadn’t expected to run into Ivan here. He froze in the middle of the path, blocking their way.
