Chapter 76: Suicide?
Chapter 76: Suicide?
The Rain Country.
Under a massive boulder, a large group of Sunagakure ninjas had gathered.
"Why hasn't Yecang and his team returned yet?"
A Jonin among them, who had been part of the pursuit of Feng Ye with Yecang, voiced his concern.
"It was just a solitary ninja they were chasing. If they had caught up, the battle should've been over by now, and they should be back. If they couldn't catch up, they wouldn't waste time pursuing. The fact that they aren't back yet... Could they have walked into an ambush?" another Jonin beside him frowned.
"It's possible," a calm, deep voice replied. It was one of the Jonin who had stayed with the main group.
He gazed in the direction where Yecang and his team had gone, and said, "That young ninja might be more than he seems—perhaps even bait. But with Yecang's strength and Munoi's abilities, even if they had fallen into an ambush, they should be able to escape, or at least send one person back to inform us."
The other Jonin beside him furrowed his brows. "It's unlikely that our operation was detected by Konoha. What are the chances that a ninja decoy would just happen to be at that location?"
"Hard to say," the first Jonin who spoke up, replied. "For now, all we can do is wait. If we don't hear anything in the next quarter of an hour, we'll go look for them."
The group of Jonin and Chunin behind him nodded slowly, their faces grim.
This ambush was critical!
It could very well decide the outcome of the war!
Now, faced with this unexpected turn of events—discovered by an unknown ninja, and Yecang's team not returning after a long while—regardless, it was not good news.
One minute...
Two minutes...
Time ticked by slowly.
The rain continued to fall, dripping down the sheer rock face.
Whether it was the group of Sunagakure ninjas taking shelter under the boulder or those standing atop the rocks, keeping watch, all remained silent, anxiously awaiting news.
Suddenly,
One of the ninjas standing atop the boulder, his eyes narrowed as he focused on a particular direction. After a moment, he leaped down and announced, "A ninja detected at the seven o'clock direction! It's a Jonin-level opponent!"
At his words, the tense atmosphere among the group was dispelled, and all eyes turned towards the speaker. Several ninjas immediately dashed out, their gazes fixed on the seven o'clock direction.
The leading Jonin among them, upon seeing Yukai running towards them, felt a sense of foreboding.
If Yecang and his team had dealt with the lone ninja, they should have returned together.
But now, only Yukai was here!
Could their earlier suspicions be true? Was that ninja a decoy, luring Yecang and his team into an ambush? And now, was Yukai returning to seek reinforcements?!
The other Sunagakure ninjas thought of the same possibility, and tension spread across their faces. This was an extremely serious development!
All eyes were fixed on Yukai as he ran towards them.
One kilometer...
Nine hundred meters...
Eight hundred meters...
Yukai was getting closer.
Among the Sunagakure ninjas, one with a perceptive ability suddenly paused, as if he had sensed something. When Yukai closed in to within five hundred meters, the ninja's face changed drastically, and he shouted, "Be careful!!
"That's not Yukai!"
His voice echoed, causing the faces of all the Sunagakure ninjas to pale.
And at that moment,
The figure rushing towards them, who appeared to be Yukai, suddenly transformed amidst the white smoke. A young ninja with silver hair and tattered clothing stood in Yukai's place.
Then, the young ninja's speed abruptly increased, almost quadrupling, as he charged towards them.
"So fast!"
"Watch out!!"
"Eighth, ninth, and tenth squads, prepare your ninjutsu!"
Upon witnessing this, one of the Sunagakure Jonin immediately shouted out orders. Several ninjas behind him sprang into action, swiftly forming hand seals.
As they did so,
Feng Ye's chakra surged within him, bursting through the third gate, the Gate of Life, bathing him in a silver glow. Then, he pushed further, breaking through the fourth gate, the Gate of Pain, as arcs of lightning crackled through his silver hair.
The Sunagakure ninjas could only watch in awe as a silver blur streaked across the battlefield, covering the last few hundred meters in an instant.
"Wind Style! Wind Blade Technique!"
Over a dozen Sunagakure ninjas shouted in unison.
The wind blade techniques of more than ten ninjas intertwined instantly, forming a vast net of wind blades that swept towards Feng Ye.
"..."
The leading Jonin's expression turned gloomy as he witnessed this scene.
He wasn't particularly worried about the ninja before him; after all, they had hundreds of elites here, and no matter how fast he was, it would be impossible to break through their united large-scale wind-style ninjutsu blockade.
The real problem was the situation they now found themselves in.
Things were looking extremely grim!
An enemy had disguised himself as Yukai to launch a sneak attack on them, and Yecang, who had gone to pursue him earlier, had gone missing without a trace. They must have fallen into a dire situation!
As these thoughts flashed through his mind, he didn't hesitate in his command. Even as the three squads jointly unleashed their wind-style jutsu to stop Feng Ye head-on, he continued to give orders.
"Fourth Squad, Fifth Squad, block the right flank. Sixth Squad, Seventh Squad, block the left. Trap and kill him!"
Sunagakure, renowned for their wind-style ninjutsu, showed no fear towards speed-type ninjas.
Wind Cutter!
The cutting power of the wind could tear through lightning-style defenses, and the range of wind-style ninjutsu could also block off escape routes for speed-type ninjas, trapping them in a deadly crossfire.
"..."
Feng Ye's expression remained calm as he faced the oncoming net of wind blades, along with similar wind blades attacking from the left and right flanks.
While wind-style ninjutsu was effective against most speed-type ninjas, the key word here was 'most'. For someone with abnormal defensive capabilities like the Third Raikage, or for someone with infinite self-healing abilities like himself, wind-style jutsu held no advantage!
At that moment, from an overhead view, one could see a silver streak of light charging headlong into the hundreds of scattering Sunagakure ninjas.
The silver light was headed straight for a net of wind blades, and on both sides, Sunagakure ninjas were swiftly forming hand seals to release the same jutsu, intending to trap the silver figure within the net.
"To think that you could act so recklessly in front of us, Sunagakure ninjas, just because of your speed. Your overconfidence will be your downfall... Your speed is also your weakness!"
A cold light flashed in the Sunagakure Jonin's eyes.
Speed meant that changing direction would be difficult!
With Feng Ye's speed, if he could make an immediate 180-degree turn, he might be able to escape the range of the wind blade net. But that would be incredibly difficult to achieve.
If he could only manage a forced turn, drawing a ninety-degree arc, he would run straight into the wind blade net on the flanks. In other words, there was no way he could escape!
Some were still alive, but he was already dead.
The rest of the Sunagakure ninjas, witnessing the rapidly changing situation, came to the same conclusion. Their minds began to race as they considered the unknown fate of Yecang and his team.
But! Just at that moment, something completely unexpected happened, leaving everyone stunned.
Feng Ye, bathed in silver light, faced the oncoming net of wind blades head-on without changing direction in the slightest. Instead, he charged straight into it!
"Hmm?!"
"What?!"
This unexpected move left all the Sunagakure ninjas bewildered.
Then, they saw Feng Ye burst through the net of wind blades in an instant, his body seemingly sliced into shreds by the wind blades. Large amounts of blood gushed out, leaving a trail of blood in the air.
Bewilderment spread across their faces.
Was this... suicide?!
