Chapter 76: Quirrell's Box
Chapter 76: Quirrell's Box
Jerry straightened his wizard robe, pretending he had just come out of the common room, and walked toward the staircase.
As he rounded the corner, the scene at the staircase came into view.
The Troll was standing at the top of the stairs, holding a club in his left hand and Professor Quirrell's ankle in his right, slamming him into the ground like a toy.
The sight reminded Jerry of the scene in The Avengers where Hulk threw Loki around, how similar it was.
"Ouch! That's terrible!"
Seeing Professor Quirrell's bloodied face and dazed eyes, Jerry couldn't help but mourn for him for a couple of seconds.
On the opposite side of the stairs, Hermione was so frightened that she had fallen to the ground, screaming and crawling backward in terror.
Clearly, the sight of the Troll and the bloodied Professor Quirrell had frightened her.
After all, Hermione, though a brilliant student with extensive theoretical knowledge, was still just a young girl with no practical combat experience or strong fighting talent.
In a sudden dangerous situation like today, she was far less capable than Harry and Ron.
"Hermione, what's going on? Why is Professor Quirrell being held by the Troll?"
Jerry feigned surprise as he rushed toward the staircase, shouting at Hermione.
Seeing Jerry, Hermione's emotions calmed down a bit.
"I don't know. I drank too much juice and wanted to go to the bathroom in the basement, and then I saw this!"
"Really? There's a bathroom on the first floor, why did you go to the basement?"
Jerry was a bit speechless, but he quickly pulled out his wand and shouted:
"I'll hold it off, you go to the Great Hall and get the professors!"
In fact, using the bathroom was just Hermione's excuse. She hadn't seen Jerry at the Slytherin table during the feast and was worried something had happened to him, so she decided to check the basement.
But she never expected to see the Troll holding the bloodied Professor Quirrell and slamming him into the ground halfway down the stairs.
"Okay, be careful. I'll go get the professors!"
Hermione quickly stood up and ran upstairs toward the Great Hall.
Just then, a small box about the size of a palm fell from Professor Quirrell's wizard robe, which the Troll was holding upside down.
Jerry's eyes lit up when he saw the box.
"Stupefy!"
He pointed his wand, and a blue magic beam shot directly at the Troll.
The Troll, a magical creature about four meters tall, weighing a ton, and with a brain the size of a booger, is classified as Xxxx in the textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Jerry, who had experience fighting more powerful Abominations, was not afraid of the Troll and knew its weaknesses.
After stunning the Troll with a sleeping charm, Jerry stepped forward and grabbed Professor Quirrell, who had fallen from the Troll's grasp. He then kicked the box, sending it flying into an abandoned classroom beside the stairs.
Dragging the nearly unconscious Professor Quirrell by his wizard robe, Jerry didn't attack the Troll again but instead fled down the stairs to the first floor.
As Professor Quirrell was dragged up the stairs, his head thudded against each step.
About eight seconds later, the Troll awoke, club in hand, and started up the stairs, only to be hit with another stunning spell.
Dragging Professor Quirrell to the first floor, Jerry saw Professor Snape, Professor Mcgonagall, and Madam Pomfrey hurrying over.
It turned out that Hermione had burst into the Great Hall and loudly announced that a Troll had appeared in the basement, Professor Quirrell had been knocked unconscious and was in the Troll's grasp, and Jerry was trying to save him.
Dumbledore immediately dispatched Professor Snape, Professor Mcgonagall, and the school nurse, Madam Pomfrey.
"Mr. Carmen, are you all right?"
Mcgonagall looked at Jerry with some anxiety. Even though Jerry wasn't in Gryffindor, Professor Mcgonagall was equally concerned about the safety of every young wizard.
"I'm fine, but Professor Quirrell isn't doing well. And that Troll is still on the first floor; my Sleeping Charm won't hold it for more than a few seconds!"
Jerry pointed to Quirrell, who was lying on the ground with a bloody face.
Snape glanced at Quirrell with a hint of confusion and then spoke to Jerry with a slightly approving tone:
"Jerry, you did well. Follow Professor Mcgonagall back to the Great Hall. I'll handle the Troll!"
"Professor Quirrell is my responsibility; I'll take him to the hospital wing for treatment!"
At that moment, Madam Pomfrey waved her wand, and Professor Quirrell's body, under the effect of her Locomotion Charm, began to follow her toward the hospital wing.
The Locomotion Charm is similar to the Levitation Charm, but it not only makes objects float; it also allows the wizard to move them with their will. Unlike the Levitation Charm, which can be left alone after casting, the Locomotion Charm requires continuous magic and must be within a certain distance from the wizard to maintain control.
"Mr. Carmen, why were you alone in the basement?"
On the way back to the Great Hall, Professor Mcgonagall asked, somewhat puzzled.
Jerry had been prepared for this question:
"I was so engrossed in reading in the common room that I didn't realize I had missed the start of the feast!"
He had been in the common room all afternoon, and many Slytherin young wizards could vouch for that. Just before the feast, he had also run into Daphne and Pansy.
Mcgonagall nodded. She wasn't suspicious; she was just genuinely curious.
"Mr. Carmen, you did very well just now. If you hadn't bravely held off the Troll, Miss Granger and Professor Quirrell would have been in grave danger!
For your bravery, I will award ten points to Slytherin!"
In fact, Professor Mcgonagall had always been impressed by Jerry. From the first time she saw him at the orphanage, standing up for the weaker kids, she thought he would be a perfect fit for Gryffindor.
After all, the most important quality for a Gryffindor is bravery.
Unfortunately, during the Sorting Ceremony, the Sorting Hat placed Jerry in Slytherin.
"Thank you, Professor Mcgonagall!"
Jerry smiled in response.
While Snape had been very kind to him, he had to admit that in terms of fairness and impartiality, Professor Mcgonagall was a paragon among the Hogwarts professors.
"Phew!"
Following Professor Mcgonagall into the Great Hall, Jerry noticed that, apart from the Slytherin young wizards, Hermione, and the Ravenclaw head, Professor Flitwick, and the Hufflepuff head, Professor Sprout, Dumbledore was nowhere to be seen. Jerry let out a quiet sigh of relief.
It seemed that the other young wizards had been led back to their dormitories by their prefects, and Dumbledore had likely gone to check on the Philosopher's Stone.
Although the plan had a minor hiccup, the outcome was still positive.
The only potential issue was Dumbledore's Legilimency. If Dumbledore were to use Legilimency on him, it would be very troublesome.
However, he thought the likelihood of that happening was not very high.
