Chapter 759: Rain Enhances Conductivity, Not a Common Rule
Chapter 759: Rain Enhances Conductivity, Not a Common Rule
"Hahahaha! You're finished, human!"
The Chaos Sorcerer laughed heartily, looking up at the sky.
"The ultimate insect has been perfected! Come forth—
—Supreme Megapupa!"
A summoning storm stirred, and the air seemed to be filled with floating pollen. The massive green insect spread its moth-like wings, and its hideous mouthparts emitted a terrifying roar.
[Supreme Megapupa, ATK 3500]
Chengan Nei: "..."
"Well? Are you speechless with awe?" The Chaos Sorcerer laughed, hands on hips. "This is my ace, a powerful monster in the upper echelons of the Duel World, the Supreme Megapupa!
It's an honor to be defeated by such a formidable monster. Remember this well, human! Hahaha—"
Chengan Nei was indeed speechless.
But it wasn't from awe; rather, he felt a sudden rush of memories of his past defeat. What a nostalgic monster.
This was the ace monster that Insect Weevil boasted about during the Duel Kingdom tournament. Back then, Duel Monsters had just awakened in the modern era, and people were still learning the rules of the game. The card pool was far from as extensive as it is today.
So, Weevil's Megapupa was quite a novelty at the time. The Megapupa boasted a terrifying attack power of 3500, even higher than the then-proclaimed strongest Blue-Eyes White Dragon. It was genuinely frightening. The Megapupa, aside from Fusion Monsters, had the highest attack power among Main Deck monsters.
Of course, it has since been outpaced by newer cards.
Chengan Nei even remembered the strategies used by both players during their initial duel.
It went something like this:
"I offer Iron Knight Giafreed as a Tribute to perform an Advanced Summon." Chengan Nei declared. "Come forth, Demon Summon!"
[Demon Summon, ATK 2500]
"In Attack Position?" The Chaos Sorcerer laughed. "This attack power can't even scratch the Megapupa."
"Is that so?" Chengan Nei smiled. "I activate the Spell Card, Magic Fog Rain!"
Rain began to fall from the sky, drenching the entire field.
The Chaos Sorcerer frowned: "What's the point of this?"
"Haven't you noticed?" Chengan Nei smiled. "Demon Summon excels in lightning attacks, and look at your Megapupa now, soaked in the Magic Fog Rain!"
"What do you mean?"
The Chaos Sorcerer looked at his own Megapupa.
"Still don't get it? Your Megapupa, after getting drenched, has become... a Wet Megapupa!" Chengan Nei declared. "When wet, it's highly conductive to the Demon Summon's attack, amplifying the lightning's conductivity!"
Chaos Sorcerer: "???"
Is that even a thing?
"Go, Demon Summon, attack the Megapupa!"
[Demon Summon, ATK 2500 → ATK 4000]
As the Demon Summon's attack power soared to 4000, a lightning bolt instantly shattered the Megapupa, and the Chaos Sorcerer was blown away, his mouth agape in shock.
What the hell? Rain enhancing conductivity? Is this even a legal move?
This was the very strategy used by Yuugi Mutou in the original anime to defeat Insect Weevil.
Weevil claimed his Megapupa's effect could lower the opponent's monster's attack power by releasing scales, so Yuugi played Magic Fog Rain, arguing that the rain would wash away the scales. Furthermore, Magic Fog Rain enhanced conductivity, so Demon Summon's lightning attack instantly defeated Weevil.
Although it seemed like a bluff at the time, the Magic Fog Rain card, as a tribute to this iconic scene, was later modified to be a dedicated card for Thunder-type and Demon-type monsters, capable of destroying all opposing monsters on the field with a defense lower than the attack power of Demon Summon.
In the anime, the effect of Magic Fog Rain is not accurately represented by its physical card counterpart, despite its homage to the original scene.
Therefore, some fans have attempted to reconstruct the card's effect based on its portrayal in the anime.
During Yugi's first duel with Weevil, it was used to negate the effect of Poison Scales and boost the attack of Demon Summon by 1000 points. In his second duel with Joey, Magic Fog Rain negated the attack of Joey's Thousand Dragon.
It was also used against Bandit Keith, again boosting the attack of Demon Summon, but this time by only 700 points.
Based on these instances, card enthusiasts have deduced the card's original effect. When Magic Fog Rain is activated, all existing card effects on the field are negated, and monsters cannot declare attacks.
Additionally, while in the graveyard, it can increase the attack of "Demon Summon" on the player's field by 100 points for each card in the graveyard, excluding itself.
In Joey's case, there were 15 cards in his graveyard, resulting in a 4000-point attack boost for Demon Summon.
Of course, Yugi did not explain this effect to his opponent. Chaos Sorcerer, until his dying breath, stared intently at Joey, wondering which dimension of dueling allowed for such wild tactics, especially the rain-enhanced conductivity.
At the same time, deeper within Tyrant's Castle...
"Duel!" x2
[Yugen, LP 4000]
[Guardian Bao, LP 4000]

"I'll start, draw!"
Guardian Bao scoffed.
"I don't know where you get your confidence, but even if you manage to reach Tyrant, you'll only be fodder.
I summon 'Demon Slime Mold'!" (Original Card)
A purple, mud-like substance appeared on his field, quickly gathering and writhing before taking the form of a slime with a repulsive appearance, as if emitting a foul odor of mold.
[Demon Slime Mold, ATK 500]
The original monster used by Guardian Bao in the anime has not been made into a physical card.
"Then, I set a card and end my turn!" Bao declared confidently, "Let me show you that, not even Tyrant, can save you outsiders from the vast gap between you and our Five Tigers General.
As for that boy who dared to challenge Tyrant, he's probably been trampled to death by now. Haha."
Yugen ignored him and proceeded with his turn. "My turn, draw!"
He added the drawn card to his hand and then slowly summoned another monster from his hand.
"I summon 'Giant Rat'!"
Another hideous monster, a giant rat with a menacing expression, appeared on his field, holding a skull in its hand as if it were a leftover meal.
[Giant Rat, ATK 1400]
"Giant Rat attacks Demon Slime Mold!"
Guardian Bao burst into laughter.
"A predictable attack, but it's useless!
I activate my set card, Continuous Trap 'Gravity Amplifier'! This card doubles the gravity on the field, rendering weak monsters immobile! As long as this card remains on the field, neither player can attack with monsters of level four or lower!" (Original Card)
