Chapter 759: Mimics
Chapter 759: Mimics
Two spears flew out, piercing the vital points of the Firetoxin Dragons.
However, after penetrating the monsters' bodies, the subsequent attacks avoided the fatal areas of the Subhumans, only temporarily incapacitating them.
Lindsey sheathed his weapons and caught up with the floating island ahead.
He built a path at the island's edge and pulled the two Subhumans and their dragons back to the ground.
The two Firetoxin Dragons, as expected, were slaughtered by Lindsey.
One provided dragon hide, and the other, dragon eyes.
As for the Subhumans, one had fallen unconscious due to severe blood loss, while the other gasped for breath violently.
Although the latter was too weak to resist, their fierce beastly eyes remained fixed on Lindsey, cursing him with a tone filled with resentment:
"Human, you despicable and shameless..."
Lindsey drew his dagger and stabbed it into the Subhuman's chest, causing intense pain that immediately robbed him of the ability to speak properly.
The Subhuman's body began to convulse violently.
But when Lindsey pulled the dagger out of the Subhuman's chest, there was no visible wound where it had pierced.
Lindsey activated the title effect of the Emotional Blade.
The previous strike had been completely transformed into emotional pain, forcibly inflicted upon the Subhuman.
Thus, he had caused no physical harm, only mental damage.
Looking at the Subhuman curled up before him, trembling, Lindsey spoke in a calm tone:
"These Firetoxin Dragons were originally bound by the Fire Dragon King."
"How did you encounter these creatures and gain control over them? Are there other Subhumans who can command these Firetoxin Dragons?"
Lindsey's approach was straightforward.
His primary objective was to deal with the spatial anomalies in the Core World, followed by settling things with Alice and continuing his journey to the City of Law.
As for the conflict between humans and Subhumans here,
Lindsey had no intention of delving into the intricacies of right and wrong. Instead, he was more concerned with these out-of-control Firetoxin Dragons—after all, the Fire Dragon King had been slain by his and Alice's combined efforts.
Within his capabilities, Lindsey preferred to address this issue.
At that moment, the Subhuman remained curled up on the ground.
He understood Lindsey's words, but the pained emotions flooding his mind prevented him from speaking.
Lindsey casually activated his scouting skill.
[Subhuman Awakener—Embarked on the path of Mimics, capable of controlling and influencing Firetoxin Dragons.]
Mimics.
Lindsey raised an eyebrow slightly.
The two Subhumans before him were different from the Beastmasters on the messenger's side, following the path of Mimics, one of the thirteen most powerful Awakener lineages.
"The closer we get to the City of Law."
"The more various Awakeners we're bound to encounter."
As Lindsey sighed, the Subhuman before him finally caught his breath and managed to ask in a trembling, intermittent voice:
"You...what did you just do to me?"
Lindsey put aside his thoughts and stated to the captive:
"Answer my questions first."
A fierce determination flashed in the Subhuman's beastly eyes:
"You won't get away with this, ah—"
Lindsey wasted no time, stabbing the Subhuman again.
Accompanying the strike was the Subhuman's pained and increasingly feeble wails.
This cycle repeated several times.
The Subhuman's resolute will was shattered by the overwhelming emotions of pain. He lay on the ground, attempting to raise his hands to grasp Lindsey's ankles, but lacked the strength to move, managing only a weak plea:
"I'll...I'll tell you..."
Lindsey collected the weapons with satisfaction:
"Then start with the questions I asked at the beginning.
"The Subhumans seemed to grasp at straws, pleading as they spoke, "We didn't go to the Dragon Isle! We encountered these Fire Dragons during a teleportation and followed them to learn and communicate. Eventually, we managed to dominate these monsters."
Lindsey pointed to the floating island behind them and the two Firetoxin Dragon corpses at their feet, "Are all the Firetoxin Dragons you encountered here?"
The Subhuman quickly shook his head, his honesty palpable, "Not just these! There are more!"
"Apart from us, other companions also have Fire Dragons. We all set foot on different floating islands, heading towards various locations."
Lindsey inquired further.
"What about the scale of your other companions?"
At this question, the Subhuman's expression turned anxious.
His eyes fixed on Lindsey's hand gripping the dagger, and his voice distorted with fear, "Specifically... I don't know the details!"
"I truly don't know! I just followed orders, leading these monsters to attack humans. I wasn't involved in any detailed personnel assignments!"
"..."
Lindsey's expression held a hint of regret.
He equipped the Sapphire Goggles from his inventory, and although the Subhuman before him remained tense and fearful, his emotions didn't exhibit the calm analysis or deceptive changes one might expect.
The situation was likely as this fellow described; he genuinely lacked detailed knowledge.
"Lord Lindsey."
At that moment, Arona's voice reached them from behind.
Lindsey slightly lifted his head, and the blind girl was making her way along the edge of the floating island, leaning on the void bridge as she approached him.
Behind Arona stood the humans who had been halted from combat.
They surrounded the island's edge, silently observing Arona's approach.
Lindsey and Arona.
The latter was a leader in the eyes of the followers.
The former, having slain the Seventh Stage Dragonbeast, was a top-tier Awakened with unfathomable strength.
Without any need for instructions, they stood by the bridge, maintaining a respectful posture as they awaited the conversation between the two, not daring to follow Arona.
"Arona, are you done?"
Lindsey spoke, guiding Arona, whose vision was impaired.
The girl made her way over and crouched down, feeling the trembling Subhuman to confirm, "Lord Lindsey, were all the Firetoxin Dragons we encountered just now under their command?"
Lindsey explained, "The spatial anomaly caused all the Firetoxin Dragons on Dragon Isle to leave the island, ravaging and preying everywhere. They happened to encounter these Subhuman Mimics and were subsequently learned and controlled by them."
"Mimics!" Arona immediately grasped the severity of the situation. "If that's the case, doesn't it mean that all the Firetoxin Dragons on the entire Dragon Isle are under their control? In that case..."
Arona didn't finish her sentence.
The atmosphere of spatial anomaly resurfaced, enveloping the world.
Lindsey and Arona witnessed a familiar transformation in their surroundings.
Once the dust settled, everything around them, except for the two captured Subhuman prisoners, was drastically different from before.
Not only the humans but also the bodies of the Firetoxin Dragons at their feet had vanished without a trace due to the teleportation rules!
