Chapter 758: Ceasefire
Chapter 758: Ceasefire
By all accounts, this was the moment when the Righteous Maiden, alone, would step forward to halt the impending battle.
The scene would typically unfold with gruesome bloodshed or merciless mockery from others.
But Arona had an additional identity.
She was the one who conducted baptisms among the Righteous Pathway followers, the most well-known and influential within the faith.
Many of those currently engaged in combat belonged to the faction that followed the Righteous Pathway.
They immediately recognized Arona, and exclamations of surprise echoed through both camps:
"Miss Arona!"
"How...how is she here?"
Arona's eyes couldn't see, but she could hear the voices.
Through these calls of her name, Arona understood the situation.
The Blind Girl seized the opportunity:
"Everyone, we've found hope to resolve the spatial anomaly! If we join hands and overcome this together, we'll surely reclaim the peaceful lives we once had!"
"Don't give up at Dawn's Edge!"
"..."
Lindsey watched from behind as the scene unfolded.
Just as he was about to grip his weapon with his right hand, he slowly relaxed.
The power of faith was sometimes so effective.
If Lindsey had stepped forward to reason with these people, it would have been nearly impossible to calm these enraged humans.
But Arona held an extremely high status among the followers.
With a wave of her arm, some immediately lowered their weapons.
More followed suit, and the tense atmosphere of drawn swords dissipated into nothingness.
Arona took control of the situation.
While calming their minds, she also inquired about the reason for their internal strife:
"Tell me, why are you turning against each other with swords and blades?"
"When we were passing messages, we should have been united."
In response to Arona's question, someone nearby shook their head in shame:
"Miss Arona, we know this isn't right."
"But after several teleports, we've been stranded on resource-barren floating islands. We couldn't endure it any longer!"
Someone from the other side spoke up:
"It's partly our fault."
"Our resources are indeed scarce. After several teleports without any findings and no guarantee of supplies next time, we...we refused their offer."
Hearing this, Arona sighed and began guiding both groups' mindset:
"I understand the current situation on the floating islands."
"Come, let's first bury the deceased and then process these monsters into food. Although the Firetoxin Dragon's fire sac is poisonous, its flesh and blood are still edible."
Upon hearing Arona's decision, someone immediately advised against it:
"Miss Arona, these are the Fire Dragon King's kin!"
"Even if the battle doesn't alert it, carrying this meat...I think it's best we flee quickly!"
Arona firmly replied:
"Rest assured."
"The Dust Path World no longer has a figure like the Fire Dragon King."
"..."
After Arona spoke.
She was met with silence.
Even in the midst of the Dust Path World's turmoil, the probability of a Seventh Stage Awakener or monster falling was rare.
Even though Arona held a leader-like status among the followers, no one immediately believed such news.
Sensing the silence around her, Arona continued:
"Think about it. If the Fire Dragon King were still alive, would he allow his kin to act so freely?"
As this reason was presented, the others began to believe.
After all, monsters lived relatively regulated lives and wouldn't exhibit such abnormal behavior.
Some continued to question Arona:
"Miss Arona, how do you know the Fire Dragon King is dead?"
"Do you know who killed it?"
Arona silently turned her gaze towards Lindsey.
Although she couldn't see Lindsey's figure, she could hear his footsteps.
The humans nearby, noticing Arona's action, followed her gaze and spotted Lindsey.
"..."
Silence descended upon the crowd.
After the tense confrontation, they recalled Lindsey's dominant stance when suppressing the Firetoxin Dragon.
Connecting this with what Arona's actions implied...
Awe-filled gazes emerged from the crowd, converging on Lindsey.
Many took a few steps back, distancing themselves from Lindsey, creating a space of fear.
"..."
"I didn't slay the dragon to be treated like this."
Lindsey gave a bitter smile.
In this moment, he seemed to understand the mindset of high-order Awakened ones when looking at ordinary people, even though he didn't possess such an attitude.
Even though he didn't hold such a view, the gap between them couldn't be easily bridged when faced with admiration or even fear.
"Stay true to yourself."
"Don't disdain others' lives just because of your strength; this is the principle and the bottom line."
Lindsey muttered to himself, his voice barely audible.
At this moment, due to the crowd's movement, he suddenly discovered some new white light clues.
Lindsey quickly combined them.
Just like before, the white light clues merged, drawing a white line towards another direction of the floating island.
"..."
Lindsey's eyes narrowed.
This scene was identical to when he had pulled the beast tamer from the forest.
"Arona, you handle the corpses here with the others."
"I have something to take care of!"
Leaving these instructions, Lindsey's figure vanished in an instant, transforming into a gust of wind and galloping away.
He rushed along the white light.
In less than half a minute, he reached the edge of this floating island.
Right in the center of the void bridge connecting the island.
He saw two figures running outwards, each accompanied by a Fifth Stage Firetoxin Dragon.
"Hurry, they're catching up."
"We've been spotted."
Lindsey's accelerated pursuit naturally startled the humanoid Awakened ones ahead.
They turned and saw Lindsey, then without hesitation, leaped off the void bridge, their Firetoxin Dragons following suit, locking their claws onto the humanoids' shoulders.
...
The two humanoids were grasped by the Firetoxin Dragons in mid-air.
The monsters' bodies weren't designed for carrying humans in flight, but when holding prey, they could slow down and fly to some extent.
Lindsey stepped onto the void bridge.
He watched as the humanoids' figures, carried by the Firetoxin Dragons, vanished beneath the floating island.
Snap—
Two spears were grasped in Lindsey's hands.
Although the Firetoxin Dragons moved the humanoids back and forth in the air, attempting to dodge the attack from behind.
But Lindsey activated the [FPS] module.
With the reticle displayed, he precisely predicted the escape routes of these fleeing individuals.
Lindsey exerted force on his hands:
"Want to run?"
"Stay right here for me!"
