Chapter 757: Enchantment Magic
Chapter 757: Enchantment Magic
Ivan was deeply worried. The piece of mithril that Nicolas Flamel had tossed over had just blown through two layers of protection, displaying an astonishing amount of power. If he didn't react in time while holding it in his palm, he would lose his entire hand!
Always prioritizing his survival, Ivan immediately activated his blood magic—Dragon Transformation. Crimson dragon scales quickly appeared on his right hand.
Nicolas Flamel observed this with a curious whistle. He had heard about Ivan's blood magic from Dumbledore, but this was the first time he had seen it in action.
After making all the necessary preparations, Ivan clenched his fist and began experimenting with the method Nicolas Flamel had provided, focusing his mind to gather magic in his palm.
At first, everything went smoothly. Ivan quickly covered the surface of the mithril metal with magic, but the next steps proved to be a challenge.
The mithril metal was extremely hard, and he had no idea how to leave marks on it using only his willpower.
Ivan stood there, deep in thought, his brows furrowing tighter and tighter. After several attempts, the mithril metal in his hand showed no reaction. It seemed that mastering Enchantment Magic was not as easy as he had hoped, and even the first step of inscribing runes was proving to be incredibly difficult.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Flamel was sitting in a chair in the laboratory, flipping through an alchemy book, occasionally glancing over at Ivan. When he noticed that Ivan was completely at a loss, he returned his focus to the book.
Nicolas Flamel was well aware of the difficulty of learning Enchantment Magic. Most alchemists probably wouldn't even get a foothold in ten or fifteen days.
In his opinion, while Ivan had a solid foundation and was exceptionally talented, it would still take at least three days to master the basics. Tonight, he was just letting Ivan get a feel for it.
Ivan tried for over an hour but made no progress.
Just as he was feeling discouraged and about to ask Nicolas Flamel for some tips, a sudden flash of inspiration struck him. He closed his eyes and concentrated, recalling the feeling of directly manipulating magic while in Protection Mode.
After an indeterminate amount of time, Ivan finally found the key. Magic rapidly seeped into the mithril metal, and the block in his palm began to glow, with irregular scratches appearing on its surface.
Nicolas Flamel, who had been reading, instantly sensed the magic fluctuation and instinctively turned to look at Ivan.
So fast?!
Nicolas Flamel was extremely surprised. He realized that Ivan had found a way to inscribe the runes, but he also noticed that the magic fluctuation was becoming incredibly volatile.
Before Nicolas Flamel could warn him, Ivan sensed the threat and, without hesitation, threw the mithril metal block away.
As soon as it left his hand, the uncontrolled magic erupted, and the hard mithril metal shattered instantly. The debris scattered in all directions like bullets.
Fortunately, Ivan's reaction was swift. He activated his protective ring the moment he let go, successfully blocking the flying debris.
Looking at the cracks on the first magic barrier, Ivan estimated the force of the debris and felt a wave of relief. If his reaction had been even a second slower, he would have been injured, even with the protection of the dragon scales.
“Unfortunately, it failed again.” Ivan picked up a fragment from the ground and sighed in frustration.
He had spent a long time finding a method, but he hadn’t even managed to complete a simple Runic Inscription before the Magic went out of control.
“Don’t rush it. Now that you’ve found the right approach, it’s just a matter of continuous practice.” Nicolas Flamel, marveling at Ivan’s talent, offered words of encouragement.
Ivan nodded, quickly composed himself, and picked up another piece of Mithril Metal, closing his eyes to try again.
The laboratory soon filled with one explosion after another.
This time, Ivan found no shortcuts, and his entire evening of practice yielded little progress. He couldn’t even complete the most basic Runic Inscription.
Seeing this, Nicolas Flamel actually breathed a sigh of relief. If Ivan had mastered it in just a few hours, he would have had to question his own life.
After all, the once-renowned Alchemy genius himself had spent nearly half a month just to get a basic grasp of this Enchantment Magic.
Over the next few days, Ivan spent his mornings learning Alchemy Knowledge from Nicolas Flamel and his afternoons and evenings wreaking havoc on Magic Materials in the laboratory.
To maintain his image as a prodigy, Ivan even sneaked out of bed late at night to set up a Silencing Charm in the laboratory for extra practice.
However, this led to a rapid consumption of Mithril Metal, and Ivan estimated he was spending over a thousand Galleons a day.
In a sense, he was burning through money.
Aware of this, Ivan always felt guilty when he woke up in the morning. In just two days, he had already destroyed a whole box of Mithril Metal pieces.
Fortunately, Nicolas Flamel didn’t seem to mind the expense. Without asking any questions, he simply brought Ivan another box.
With the support of the wealthy Alchemical Master and his constant practice day and night, by the afternoon of the eighth day, Ivan finally managed to inscribe a crude Runic Inscription on a piece of Mithril Metal.
“Finally, I succeeded!” Ivan looked at the faintly glowing Runic Inscription on the Mithril Chunk, feeling a surge of excitement.
Nicolas Flamel also came over with interest, confirmed there were no issues, and suggested Ivan test it out.
Ivan didn’t refuse. He immediately channeled some Magic into the metal chunk to activate it, then quickly threw it.
The finger-sized piece of Mithril Metal burst into a blinding light in mid-air, rapidly expanding a hundred times its size, and slammed into a nearby wooden cabinet, creating a large hole.
“The effect is impressive. It seems you’ve succeeded, and faster than I expected,” Nicolas Flamel said with a smile. The first simple Runic Inscription he had taught Ivan had the effect of enlarging an object, which could last for three to four hours and could be quite useful in certain situations.
Hearing this, Ivan was overjoyed. His intense practice had finally paid off, and he had mastered the basics of Enchantment Magic within ten days, fulfilling his promise to Nicolas Flamel.
With this in mind, Ivan quickly turned to the Alchemical Master beside him, his eyes gleaming. “Master, about the Philosopher’s Stone…”
“I’ll start teaching you tomorrow. For now, you should practice the Enchantment Magic you’ve just learned. In a real battle, your enemies won’t give you ten minutes to inscribe Runic Inscriptions…” Nicolas Flamel, seeing Ivan’s excited expression, shook his head and reminded him.
