Chapter 757: Enchanted Magic
Chapter 757: Enchanted Magic
Ivan was deeply concerned. The mithril that Nicolas Flamel had tossed over had just blown through two layers of protection with astonishing power. If he didn't react in time while holding it, he would lose his entire hand!
Always prioritizing his survival, Ivan decisively activated his blood magic—Dragon Transformation. Crimson dragon scales quickly appeared on his right hand.
Nicolas Flamel watched this with a whistle of admiration. He had heard about Ivan's blood magic from Dumbledore, but this was the first time he had seen it in action.
After making all the necessary preparations, Ivan clenched his fist and began the experiment according to Nicolas Flamel's instructions, focusing his mind to gather magic in his palm.
At first, everything went smoothly. Ivan quickly covered the surface of the mithril with magic, but the next steps left him stumped.
The mithril was incredibly hard, and he had no idea how to leave marks on it with just his willpower...
Ivan stood there, lost in thought, his brow furrowing deeper and deeper. After several attempts, the mithril in his hand showed no reaction. It seemed that mastering enchanted magic was not going to be easy, and even the first step of inscribing runes was incredibly challenging.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Flamel was sitting in a chair in the laboratory, flipping through an alchemy book. He occasionally glanced over at Ivan, but when he noticed that Ivan had no clue, he focused entirely on his reading.
Nicolas Flamel was well aware of the difficulty of practicing enchanted magic. Most alchemists would take at least ten to fifteen days to even get started.
In Nicolas Flamel's view, Ivan had a solid foundation and exceptional talent, but it would still take him at least three days to grasp the basics. Tonight, he was just letting Ivan get a feel for it.
Ivan tried for over an hour but made no progress. Just as he was feeling discouraged and about to ask Nicolas Flamel for tips, a sudden idea struck him. He closed his eyes and concentrated, recalling the feeling of directly manipulating magic while in protection mode.
After an indeterminate amount of time, Ivan finally found a trick. Magic quickly seeped into the mithril, and the metal block in his palm began to glow, with several irregular scratches appearing on its surface...
Nicolas Flamel, engrossed in his book, instantly sensed the magic fluctuation and instinctively turned to look at Ivan.
So soon?!
Nicolas Flamel was astonished. He realized that Ivan had found a way to inscribe the runes, but he also noticed that the magic was becoming extremely volatile...
Before Nicolas Flamel could warn him, Ivan sensed the danger and, without hesitation, threw the mithril block away.
As soon as it left his hand, the uncontrolled magic exploded, and the hard mithril shattered instantly. The debris scattered in all directions like bullets...
Fortunately, Ivan reacted quickly and activated his protective ring the moment he let go, successfully blocking the scattered debris.
Looking at the first magic barrier, now riddled with cracks, Ivan estimated the impact strength of the debris. He shuddered at the thought of what would have happened if he had been a split second slower. Even with the protection of the dragon scales, he would have been injured.
"Unfortunately, it still failed." Ivan picked up a fragment from the ground and sighed in frustration.
He tried for a long time before finally finding a method, but he never expected that he wouldn't even be able to finish a crude Runic Inscription before the Magic he inputted went out of control.
"Don't rush. Since you've found the way, the rest is just a matter of continuous practice", Nicolas Flamel said, marveling at Ivan's talent while also offering words of comfort.
Ivan nodded, quickly composed himself, and picked up another piece of Mithril Metal, closing his eyes to try again.
The laboratory soon echoed with one explosion after another.
This time, Ivan didn't find any shortcuts, so his entire night of practice yielded minimal results. He couldn't even complete the most basic Runic Inscription.
Seeing this, Nicolas Flamel actually breathed a sigh of relief. If Ivan had managed to learn it in just a few hours, he would have had to question his own life.
After all, he, who was once called an Alchemy genius, had spent a full two weeks just to master this Enchanted Magic.
Over the next few days, Ivan spent his mornings learning Alchemy Knowledge from Nicolas Flamel and his afternoons and evenings wreaking havoc with Magic Materials in the laboratory.
To maintain his genius persona, Ivan even sneaked out of bed in the middle of the night to set up a soundproofing spell in the laboratory for extra practice.
However, this led to a rapid consumption of Mithril Metal. Ivan estimated that he might be spending over a thousand Galleons a day.
In a sense, he was burning money...
Aware of this, Ivan always felt guilty when he woke up in the morning. In just two days, he had already destroyed a box of Mithril Metal blocks.
Fortunately, Nicolas Flamel didn't seem to mind the expense. Without asking, he simply brought over another box.
Thus, with uninterrupted practice and the generous support of the wealthy Alchemical Master, Ivan finally managed to inscribe a crude Runic Inscription on a Mithril Metal block on the afternoon of the eighth day.
"Finally, I did it!" Ivan looked at the faintly glowing Runic Inscription on the Mithril block, feeling a surge of excitement.
Nicolas Flamel also came over out of interest, confirmed that there were no issues, and suggested that Ivan test it out.
Ivan didn't refuse Nicolas Flamel's suggestion. He immediately input some Magic to activate the metal block and quickly threw it out.
The finger-sized Mithril Metal burst into a blinding light in mid-air, then rapidly expanded a hundred times its size, crashing into a nearby wooden cabinet and creating a large hole.
"The effect is excellent. It looks like you've succeeded, and much faster than I expected", Nicolas Flamel said with a smile. The first simple Runic Inscription he had taught Ivan had the effect of enlarging an object, lasting about three to four hours, which could be quite useful in certain situations.
Hearing this, Ivan was overjoyed. His hard work and extra practice had finally paid off, allowing him to master this Enchanted Magic within ten days, fulfilling his promise to Nicolas Flamel.
Thinking of this, Ivan quickly turned to the Alchemical Master beside him, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Master, the Philosopher's Stone..."
"I'll start teaching you tomorrow. For now, you should focus on becoming more proficient with the Enchanted Magic you just learned. In a real battle, your enemies won't give you ten minutes to inscribe Runic Inscriptions", Nicolas Flamel said, shaking his head and offering a reminder.
