Chapter 756: The Follower
Chapter 756: The Follower
"So, what you're saying is..."
"Our current location is actually further away than before?"
The Withered Tyrant Blossom's control over the Corrupting Venom was impeccable.
Lindsey had thoroughly cleaned the floating island, even finding and burning the remains of some animals.
But as they continued on their journey, Lindsey noticed something amiss with the sun's position in the sky.
"The sun's position is even further away than before we teleported!" he exclaimed.
Arona, standing behind Lindsey, explained, "Teleporting towards spatial stability is just a general trend when space is distorted. Sometimes, people end up being thrown even further away."
Lindsey fell silent, contemplating the situation.
Even without Arona by his side, he estimated that it would take him half a day at full speed to return to their previous location.
And if the next few teleports resulted in similar situations...
"Doesn't that mean we're just getting further and further away?" Lindsey's face darkened.
With the effect of the Eternal Mark, he could infinitely restore his stamina as long as he stood on solid ground. But who could bear doing all this pointless work? He wasn't Sisyphus, pushing a boulder up a hill only to have it roll back down.
"Since that's the case... let's wait!"
Lindsey stepped onto a floating bridge, arriving at the next floating island.
The surrounding area was a lush forest, a picturesque natural landscape.
H
Arona, hearing the commotion, cautiously approached.
"Lindsey, are you tired?" she asked.
Lindsey's voice came from below, "I'm not tired. My stamina is endless."
The blind girl persisted, "Then why did you sit down?"
Lindsey sighed, "I'm worried that if we keep teleporting, we'll end up in the same situation. So, we'll wait here until we're teleported to a more suitable location, and then continue our journey."
Lindsey's response caused Arona to fall silent.
The girl stood in place for a few minutes before sitting down next to Lindsey.
Arona hugged her knees and buried her head in her arms, "Lindsey, because we have to consider survival, our daily lives are often about controlling our position. We can't be too far or too close to the core of the battlefield. Living like this, it feels like months pass by in the blink of an eye."
Lindsey looked up at Arona.
As a high-ranking member of the followers, she had to make some difficult decisions regarding the current state of the Dust Path World.
These choices were crucial, and failure could have dire consequences.
Lindsey recalled Arona's reaction when she first woke up by the lake.
In the end, she was still a young girl, an age for enjoying flowers and butterflies.
"Sigh..."
Lindsey let out a sigh, his tone softening as he equipped the Sapphire Goggles in his inventory.
"Arona, what are your thoughts on this?"
"Why did you choose to leave the other followers and embark on this adventure with me?"
The blind girl shook her head, "I don't know."
"But my devotion strongly tells me that you will achieve something extraordinary in the future. And as a follower by your side, I believe I can play a crucial role."
Through the Sapphire Goggles, Lindsey could see that Arona's emotions were stable, with no signs of lying.
After a moment's thought, Lindsey asked, "Arona, I haven't fully understood the Follower profession yet. What exactly does it entail?"
The blind girl understood Lindsey's intention and immediately spoke up, "Regardless of whether the object of faith is a deity, nature, or ancestral spirits, the structure of our power has a high degree of similarity in the initial stages."
"In the first stage, one establishes their faith and becomes an ordinary believer. At this stage, no skill power is born. In the second stage, as faith becomes more steadfast, the seed of skill is nurtured. The manifestation of this ability varies depending on the object of faith. In the third stage, this ability will give rise to miracles that shouldn't normally occur in reality. In the fourth stage, the power of miracles connects with the object of faith, further elevating the ability. In the fifth stage, the power of faith materializes and can even influence reality, providing feedback to the object of faith, allowing both to grow and progress together."
Arona took a breath and recited the abilities of the believers in the first five stages.
She paused to catch her breath before continuing, "As for the stages beyond that, I'm not sure."
"After all, the abilities of believers are related to the potential birth of deities, and subsequent knowledge is strictly controlled, only preserved in the believers' homeland world."
After hearing this explanation, Lindsey understood.
Arona's object of faith was the Righteous One.
Regardless of his purpose for going to the City of Law, he would inevitably intersect with the Righteous One, not to mention that he possessed one of the three great artifacts of the City of Law, the Human Wisdom Codex.
As a believer of the Righteous One, Arona must have had a premonition about him.
This was not the result of any conspiracy or trickery.
Having realized this, Lindsey's tone softened, "In that case, Arona, what are your thoughts?"
Arona lifted her head, her expression revealing her surprise, even with her eyes covered by a cloth.
She remained silent for a few seconds before lowering her head again and responding, "I also want to do something, to save everyone from this crisis and create a place where we can live in peace and quiet."
"But in the past, I never knew what to do."
"Until I met you, my faith seemed to prompt me—the opportunity to change everything has arrived, so I will never leave your side!"
The blind girl spoke with determination.
Lindsey couldn't help but feel the cruelty of the Awakened world.
No matter how ordinary people or weaker Awakened ones struggled, they had no chance under the dominance of the powerhouses.
Looking at Arona sitting on the ground, Lindsey propped himself up, took out the grill, and began preparing food for the girl who had found her resolve amidst confusion.
"Here, Arona, have something to eat first."
Three hours later.
After a satisfying meal, Lindsey and Arona encountered spatial deviation once again.
They landed on a new floating island, but the scene before them was no longer peaceful. Instead, it was a war that raged incessantly in the Dust Path World.
On one side were Awakened ones and ordinary warriors organized by humans.
On the other side were fire-breathing lizards with wings, flying in the air.
"Hmm?"
Lindsey blinked, feeling that these fire-breathing lizards looked very familiar.
After some thought, he realized that they were the dragonbeasts that had previously attacked Silver City, now in their smaller form!
