Chapter 756: Magician Jerry (First Update)
Chapter 756: Magician Jerry (First Update)
"Hey, it's you!"
Under the warm sunlight, Jerry strolled along the streets of New York in 2004 when a very surprised voice suddenly came from beside him.
Jerry turned his head to see a young man with a crossbody bag, who looked to be around twenty years old, wearing glasses, and appearing quite refined.
"Do you recognize me?"
Jerry asked with a smile.
He had already identified the young man through his aura; it was the Spider-Man who delivered the pizza yesterday, and also this world's Peter Parker. However, Jerry did not say it outright.
"I, um, don't recognize you, but you seem familiar."
Peter was about to say he knew him but then remembered that the first time he met the man, he was in his Spider-Man suit. So he quickly changed his answer.
It was because of Jerry's appearance that Peter managed to deliver the pizza on time and didn't get fired from his part-time job, which he valued greatly. So, he was very grateful to the man.
However, no matter how much Peter thought about it, he couldn't figure out how the man had instantly saved the two children and made the pizza appear in his hands. It just didn't make sense.
"Really? Maybe it's because I'm a magician, and you've seen my performance."
Seeing Peter's awkwardness, Jerry decided not to tease him further and offered a way out by extending his hand in a friendly gesture.
"Hi, I'm Jerry Carmen, you can call me Jerry."
"Right, Jerry. I've seen your magic, it's incredible. I'm Peter Parker."
Peter quickly extended his hand to shake Jerry's.
At that moment, it dawned on him that the man was a magician, which seemed to explain everything.
David Copperfield had performed flying acts and made the Statue of Liberty disappear. Magicians were known for their dazzling techniques and magical props, which allowed them to perform seemingly impossible feats.
The teleportation three days ago might have been achieved using some special magic prop. After all, real magic couldn't exist, could it?
"Peter, you look like you're about to attend something important—like a date?"
Jerry looked Peter up and down, noticing his neatly styled hair, crossbody bag, and new clothes, which, though not designer brands, were clearly new and well-chosen. He couldn't help but feel curious.
Given the timeline, Peter should still be in college and living a modest life, so such a well-groomed appearance must be for a significant occasion.
"Not a date. I'm going to a press conference about a new energy experiment, conducted by Doctor Octopus on revolutionary nuclear energy research."
Peter didn't hide his excitement as he explained the upcoming press conference.
It was funded by his best friend, Harry, and conducted by the renowned physicist Dr. Otto Gunther Octavius, who had dedicated his life to this nuclear energy research.
If the experiment succeeded today at the press conference, it would undoubtedly win the Nobel Prize in Physics and be remembered in history.
"That's the experiment to create a mini-sun, right?"
Hearing Peter's description, Jerry recalled the event and understood what it was about.
A physicist named Otto Gunther Octavius had attempted to use the principles of physics to create an artificial sun, providing an endless supply of cheap, renewable energy for humanity.
Unfortunately, the experiment failed, and his beloved wife, Rose, died in the process. He himself was also severely injured by the octopus mechanical arms he had created to assist with the experiment, which damaged his nerves and drastically changed his personality.
"Sounds really interesting. I wonder if I can be lucky enough to witness this groundbreaking experiment."
"Well, if you want to go, I can take you along, but you can't talk randomly when we're there."
Peter hesitated for a moment but finally nodded.
The invited attendees for this experiment were mostly high-ranking executives and leaders from New York energy companies, as well as some famous journalists and scientists.
He was only allowed to attend because his university professor, Professor Connors, was friends with Dr. Octopus, and his good friend Harry was the Ceo of Osborn Corporation.
However, he was very grateful for Jerry's help three days ago and decided to bring him along after some consideration.
Harry had previously mentioned that he could bring a friend, and Peter had initially planned to invite Mary Jane, with the intention of confessing his identity as Spider-Man to her after the event and hoping to start a relationship.
However, yesterday at the theater where Mary Jane was performing, he was heartbroken to see her kissing a handsome man and leaving together in a luxury car.
So, bringing Jerry along was within the rules.
"Thanks a lot, Peter. You're a good guy."
Jerry smiled and gave Peter a thumbs up.
The two of them walked and talked as they made their way toward Dr. Octopus's private laboratory.
"Peter, who is this?"
At the entrance of Dr. Octopus's laboratory building, Harry, who had taken over the family business after high school, looked at Jerry, who was standing next to Peter with a smile, somewhat puzzled.
Harry quickly explained:
"This is my friend, a magician. He also wants to witness Dr. Octopus's new energy development experiment, so I brought him along. Is that okay?"
"Your friend, of course, he's welcome."
Harry was a bit surprised but quickly smiled and nodded. He didn't remember Peter mentioning a magician friend, but since it was Peter's friend, he was willing to accommodate.
His surprise stemmed from the fact that he had expected Peter to bring Mary Jane.
"Hello, Harry Osborn."
Harry extended his hand to Jerry.
Jerry also politely shook Harry's hand and introduced himself.
Harry, despite being the Ceo of Osborn Corporation, had always treated Peter, who was poor, with respect. Even after his father was killed by Spider-Man and he had confronted Peter about it, Harry didn't turn his back on Peter and still considered him a friend.
Even when Peter, driven to madness, blew off half of Harry's face, Harry still used his body to shield Peter from Venom's lethal attack once he learned the truth.
Although Harry had started a relationship with Mary Jane, which hurt Peter, Jerry didn't entirely blame him. He, too, had harbored feelings for Mary Jane during high school.
Moreover, Mary Jane's character was far from loyal, and she wasn't a faithful woman.
"Let's go inside. The experiment will begin in eight hours."
Harry checked his watch and led Jerry and Peter toward the laboratory building.
With Harry, the Ceo, present, security was no issue, and the three of them didn't need to show invitations or undergo checks like the other attendees. They walked straight into the building.
