Chapter 756: Bible... No, Justice Quotes
Chapter 756: Bible... No, Justice Quotes
On the battlefield, the previously stagnant air thick with war tension eased significantly after David and Kas met face-to-face.
The three men locked eyes, each silently appraising the others.
David was no stranger to Kas. He had deliberately gathered intelligence on everything related to Lord, especially the live broadcast during that battle witnessed by the Navy. Any determined individual could have collected such information, let alone someone with King’s resources. He understood Lord’s battle records thoroughly and held genuine admiration for them.
As for those surrounding Lord, David had paid particular attention to them. Lord had three trusted subordinates:
First was "White Butterfly" Flo Lida, more commonly known as the "White Whale." She was inseparable from Lord, serving as his favorite subordinate.
Second was "Black Wolf" Klah, who functioned more as Lord’s steward than a mere Navy officer, acting as his indispensable aide.
And third was "Colossal Shield" Kas—the man was truly formidable!
If the first two were Lord’s right and left hands, Kas was the shield protecting Lord from external threats. This shield grew stronger as it earned glory, forming an unbreakable barrier of honor around Lord. Before piercing this shield, no one could dare confront Lord directly.
These three were Lord’s pillars and David’s primary focus.
Additionally, there was "Big Gun" Wilbur, who had gifted David the Justice Quotes—a collection that made David feel closer to Lord. Wilbur had once been an obscure Commander but rose to prominence only after joining Lord’s ranks.
There was also Ai En Commander, another powerful subordinate under Lord.
As David scrutinized Kas, Kas did the same to David.
Sometimes strong men needed no words—sparring revealed a person’s true nature.
Kas didn’t consider himself among the strong, yet he could still sense David’s temperament. This was an upright individual who wouldn’t stoop to despicable acts. Massacring civilians? Impossible. Not after accepting Wilbur’s Justice Quotes.
How could someone devoted to studying Kuro Mr. Justice’s teachings be a villain?
"I see..." David suddenly spoke, addressing Kas. "You believe Dressrosa resorts to any means for conquest, even killing innocent civilians for amusement. Hence, you’ve come to stop the army here. No wonder they call you 'Colossal Shield' Kas. Your epithet fits—a true shield protecting Lord’s honor."
He then turned his gaze past the Navy ranks to the enraged Raja Kingdom Army behind them.
"Is it hatred? Because their homeland was ravaged, they burn with vengeance against Dressrosa, refusing to surrender even at the cost of their lives. But—"
David bent his legs and leapt, soaring over the Navy ranks. With a thunderous thud, he landed before the Laya Kingdom’s troops.
"I am Dressrosa’s King, King David!"
His shout stunned Laya’s soldiers—then ignited their fury.
"Kill him! Kill this criminal and avenge our families!" Yef roared, raising his firearm and firing at David.
Bang!
Lead bullets streaked toward David. He sidestepped effortlessly, gripped his greatsword, and swung forward.
"Wolf Sword!!"
Roar!!
A wolf-like howl of air pressure erupted from the strike, slamming the charging Laya soldiers to the ground as if crushed by an invisible weight. They couldn’t rise.
"Have you calmed down yet?" David asked coolly. "I never ordered the slaughter of civilians."
"What did you say?!"
Yef struggled to lift his head, eyes bloodshot. "Dressrosa’s King denying such despicable acts?! We once admired your words about ‘uniting the world,’ but now you’re a coward who can’t even admit his crimes!"
David gazed at him. "What’s your name?"
"Yef! Remember this name—the symbol of resistance! If one Yef dies, countless others will rise!" Yef gritted his teeth.
"Yef... noted. Before you die, answer me this—why did Dressrosa come here?"
"Obviously to conquer!" Yef spat. "A despicable conqueror who’d sink lower than pirates!"
"But you still admire me, proving you unreservedly agree with my words. On conquered islands and nations, I’ve preached unity. You agreed to surrender. Why would I waste resources on senseless slaughter, breeding hatred and complicating my conquest?"
His words froze Yef—and the soldiers mourning their lost homes.
True...
Dressrosa’s goal was conquest, and they had willingly surrendered. Why provoke unnecessary resistance?
"Dressrosa’s army has always been honorable", David continued. "We crush enemy forces outright rather than resorting to cowardly tactics. Only through honorable victory do we earn true submission. If you still refuse to believe me, keep fighting. I’ll conquer this nation either way!"
"Then who did this?!" Yef screamed. "If not you, then who?!"
Donald stepped forward from the Navy ranks. "Perhaps I can shed light. During my reconnaissance, I noticed the burned villages lay behind the battlefield. If Dressrosa focused on the frontlines, the only ones capable of attacking the rear..."
He trailed off.
The villages weren’t just one or two. Pirates lacked such destructive power—especially inland settlements far from ports. Pirates typically targeted harbors. This was G-3 jurisdiction; no reckless pirate would dare operate here.
If not them...
Only one group could operate in Dressrosa’s rear: their own forces.
"But why?!"
"Oh? You’ve guessed, haven’t you?" David said. "Lord once said: When change approaches, those who benefit most are those who resist it hardest. In conquered nations, who fears conquest the most? Naturally, your King."
Wilbur nodded eagerly, flipping open the Justice Quotes. "From page six, section one! As expected, King David is indeed a devoted follower of Kuro Mr. Justice!"
Donald looked up, recalling—Kuro Vice Admiral had spoken those exact words during a rant against the World Government.
