Chapter 755: Methods of Alchemical Enchantment and Amplify Magic
Chapter 755: Methods of Alchemical Enchantment and Amplify Magic
These ten layers of protection were indeed formidable, but they were also relative. For Voldemort, a Magic Barrier that ordinary Wizards found difficult to breach probably wouldn't pose much of a challenge.
Ivan anticipated that these protective rings, when used to their full potential, could withstand a few of Voldemort's spells at most.
Even so, Ivan was already quite pleased, as this significantly increased his margin for error in battle. Even if he accidentally got hit by Voldemort's magic, he wouldn't be instantly killed.
Seeing Ivan's confident demeanor, Nicolas Flamel didn't try to dissuade him further.
Their interactions over the past few days had made it clear to him that Ivan was a very independent and rational person, not at all like the impulsive children of his age. If he had gone through the trouble of creating so many protective rings, he must have been confident in his ability to control them simultaneously.
So, Nicolas Flamel quickly changed the subject and asked with interest if Ivan wanted to test the rings' protective effects.
Ivan didn't hesitate and agreed.
Although he had already learned the specific strength of the protective rings from the System Inventory, a written description was no substitute for a practical test.
"Master, are you planning to spar with me?" Ivan asked, eager to try.
"No, that won't be necessary. We can use this for the test..." Nicolas Flamel shook his head and picked up a piece of Mithril Chunk from the table.
Ivan felt a bit disappointed. He had always been curious about Nicolas Flamel's true strength. Having lived for over six hundred years, even if he wasn't fond of conflict and focused entirely on alchemy, his magic level should be at least on par with Voldemort's.
Ivan had been hoping for a good fight to gauge his current combat abilities.
"Are you ready? I'm about to start..." Nicolas Flamel clasped the Mithril Chunk in his hand and asked suddenly.
Ivan put aside his scattered thoughts and moved to a relatively open area. Then, he saw Nicolas Flamel's right hand twitch, and the Mithril Chunk was thrown toward him.
At first, Ivan was puzzled. The magic materials on the table were his, and he hadn't had the chance to inscribe any runes on them. Was Nicolas Flamel planning to use a collision test?
Just as Ivan was thinking this, a strong sense of danger washed over him.
The Mithril Chunk, floating in mid-air, began to show faint, intricate patterns, like fine cracks. Brilliant red light started to shoot out from the gaps.
The moment Ivan sensed the danger, he activated all his protections. The rings in his hand lit up, and one Magic Barrier after another formed in front of him.
Almost simultaneously, the Mithril Chunk, no bigger than a finger joint, exploded.
A deafening boom echoed through the laboratory. Scorching flames and red light rapidly expanded, filling Ivan's entire field of vision and colliding with the Magic Barriers in front of him.
The first layer of protection held for a moment before shattering, but it had managed to weaken the attack to some extent. The second layer held on a bit longer, but soon the Magic Barrier was covered in cracks and shattered as well.
The aftershocks of the explosion ultimately failed to break through the third layer of protection. Ivan, standing in the middle, let out a slow breath of relief.
When the smoke cleared, the laboratory was in disarray. Tables and chairs were knocked over, and magic materials like Yew and Mithril Metal were scattered everywhere.
Nicolas Flamel casually waved his hand, and with a magical gesture, the overturned furniture stood upright, and the scattered materials returned to their original positions.
After completing everything, Nicolas Flamel turned to Ivan and asked, "How was it? How many layers of protection did the explosion break through?"
"Two layers! If the attack had been a bit stronger, the third layer might have been breached as well." Ivan raised his left hand, the protective rings on his index and middle fingers had dimmed and would be unusable for the rest of the day.
"Very good, it seems the protection strength is at least three times greater than before." Nicolas Flamel nodded.
He had deliberately built up his power for a moment, almost equivalent to using a high-intensity blasting spell with his wand. Even so, he only managed to break through two layers of protection, which meant that the magical item Ivan had created was even more powerful than he had anticipated.
"Master, how did you do that? Why did that mithril chunk suddenly explode?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
He was certain it was just a regular piece of mithril, untreated in any way. Yet, when Nicolas Flamel held it in his palm and threw it, it produced an effect similar to a blasting spell, which Ivan found incredibly fascinating.
"I temporarily enchanted the mithril chunk and infused it with some angry emotions..." Nicolas Flamel revealed the secret without any hesitation.
Strictly speaking, this was a high-level magic technique that required extensive alchemical knowledge.
Once mastered, it allowed for instant enchantment of materials that conduct magic, making them useful for both offensive and defensive purposes. It could even be enhanced with an emotion channeling spell to increase its power.
Hundreds of years ago, many powerful alchemists used this technique as an auxiliary offensive method.
The downside, of course, was the cost. The best magic-conductive mithril was extremely expensive. For instance, the piece Nicolas Flamel had just thrown was worth over ten galleons.
However, this cost was within Ivan's acceptable range, especially since the Wizards' Market was highly profitable. A month's pure profit should be enough to cover a few full-scale attacks.
What intrigued Ivan even more was that this instant enchantment technique could be compared to wandless magic.
Indeed, alchemy and magic, though different in approach, both aimed to achieve the same goal using magic. If he could learn this quick enchantment technique, it might help him master wandless casting and spell-less magic.
With this in mind, Ivan eagerly asked Nicolas Flamel how to use enchanted magic.
"Even if you hadn't asked, I was planning to include this in the curriculum soon." Nicolas Flamel said with a hint of exasperation.
Ivan's learning pace was far faster than he had anticipated, and his solid foundation meant that he was rapidly depleting Nicolas Flamel's knowledge over just two summers.
Upon receiving Nicolas Flamel's approval, Ivan was delighted. He believed that quick enchantment had a wide range of applications and could be very effective in combat.
"By the way, Master, is there a way to rapidly improve a wizard's magic in a short period of time?" Ivan suddenly thought of his long-standing problem and asked cautiously.
Given that this alchemical master had lived for over six hundred years and could even create the Elixir of Life, he might also know a method to amplify magic.
