Chapter 754: Memories and the Future
Chapter 754: Memories and the Future
It took them several minutes to go through Snape's memories together. From his childhood friendship with Harry Potter's mother to his encounter with Harry's father on the train. The two argued over Snape's friends who favored Dark Magic, and Harry Potter's father bullied Snape, leading to Snape's regrettable insult to Harry's mother.
After that, the situation took a sharp turn for the worse: Lily married James, and they both joined the Order of the Phoenix to fight Voldemort and his followers, while Snape joined Voldemort's ranks and became a Death Eater. In an accident, the secret he overheard became the cause of Harry's mother's death.
The memories then shifted to Snape's descent into darkness and his eventual redemption. Last semester, he followed Dumbledore's orders to infiltrate Voldemort's inner circle once again. Before leaving Hogwarts, during his final meeting with Dumbledore, he vowed to kill the snake, which was one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, and asked Dumbledore for Gryffindor's Dagger, which Liam had previously lent to Dumbledore.
In the final moments of the memory, after entering the Quidditch Pitch, Snape found the perfect opportunity to strike. Despite Voldemort taking his wand, Snape used the Gryffindor dagger hidden on his person and sacrificed his life to kill Nagini.
The last scene showed Snape facing the enraged Voldemort, using his last ounce of strength to utter Lily's name before everything plunged into darkness.
Indeed, as Professor Dumbledore had said, Snape had embraced death willingly. He felt that he had completed his mission and no longer needed to linger in the world, burdened by guilt.
By this time, everyone had emerged from the Pensieve, their faces heavy with the weight of what they had seen. As the only woman in the group, Hermione stood up straight, her hands clasped tightly in front of her chest, muttering to herself.
Liam moved closer to her and heard her recite in Latin: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on, there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness—"
"So... so Professor Snape did indeed lead to my parents' deaths, but he also saved my life with his own." Harry's expression was conflicted as he looked at Professor Dumbledore with hopeful eyes.
"Harry." Blue eyes gazed through half-moon glasses at green eyes. "Snape made many irreparable mistakes in his youth for various reasons. But you saw how he spent the rest of his life trying to atone for those mistakes. I hope you won't concentrate all your hatred on him."
"I don't hate him that much. He never truly harmed me personally. And I understand that the real cause of all this was Voldemort and the long-standing Blood Purity Doctrine in the Wizarding World." Harry spoke slowly but firmly. "Over the years, he made so many contributions, even sacrificing his life for me. I must let everyone know that there was someone fighting Voldemort in the darkness."
"As for indirectly causing my parents' deaths", Harry paused, then pressed his lips firmly together. "I think Professor Snape is now with my parents. Let them resolve their grievances."
After Harry finished speaking, the office fell silent. Dumbledore patted Harry's shoulder in approval, though he said nothing. Liam could see the relief in Dumbledore's eyes; he was pleased that Harry hadn't succumbed to a desire for revenge.
"I'll help you too, Harry", Liam said with a smile. "You can go downstairs and find Mr. Lovegood. I just saw him celebrating with Luna downstairs. He'll be happy to write an article about Professor Snape for tomorrow's newspaper."
"And the radio", Hermione added. "Lee Jordan is downstairs with the Weasley Twins. He'll be eager to broadcast the contributions of those who have given their time, effort, resources, and lives in this war."
"Thank you, thank you all!" Harry hugged everyone in the room, and after embracing Dumbledore, the latter said, "Well, I think you should go to the plaza and celebrate with the young people."
"What about you?" Harry tilted his head slightly, looking at Liam and Hermione from the side of Dumbledore. "Aren't you coming downstairs to celebrate, especially you, Liam? Everyone wants to see the heroes who defeated Voldemort."
"We have some matters to discuss with Headmaster Dumbledore, mainly about the arrangements after the war. So we'll come down a bit later", Liam told Harry. "You go ahead and celebrate."
After watching Harry leave, Dumbledore walked around the table and conjured two chairs, gesturing for Ryan and the others to sit down. He then propped his elbows on the table and said with a warm smile, "I have a lot to discuss with you. Most importantly, we all know that the war will end soon after Voldemort's death. What are your plans for the days ahead?"
"Of course, we will first join the reconstruction efforts. The war has destroyed so much and hurt so many. Since we have the ability, we will mobilize all our resources to help the British Wizarding World recover as quickly as possible", Liam said.
"For example, when we go downstairs later, we will meet with Xiong Duosu and the Weasley Twins to discuss the transformation of our businesses post-war and how to provide loans to those in need. It's hard to believe that Gringotts used to only offer safe deposit boxes, pawn services, and a bit of currency exchange with the Muggle world. They didn’t even offer basic savings or loans."
Liam shook his head. He had never paid attention to these matters before, but after becoming a shareholder in the United British Wizarding Bank, he realized that Gringotts was essentially a bank from the Renaissance era, with a woefully inadequate financial system. This was why the United British Wizarding Bank had become so successful after opening, as they filled a significant gap in the British wizarding community.
"That's a great approach", Dumbledore nodded in approval. "Especially the low-interest loans you proposed. Several people I know have said that the bank's low-interest loans helped them get back on their feet."
"If we can help others, that's wonderful", Ryan and the others nodded in unison. Achieving their goals while helping others sounded like a fantastic idea, making them feel a sense of fulfillment in their lives.
"However, the post-war reconstruction will end quickly. What do you plan to do once everything returns to normal?" Dumbledore adjusted his glasses and continued. "Join the Ministry of Magic, open a shop, become a professor, conduct magical research, or something else?"
"We plan to open a school, a school for all of Europe", Liam said seriously after exchanging a glance with Hermione. "This idea came to us after our trip to China. We want to build a school similar to the Celestial Alchemists Academy, providing a place for wizards who wish to further their studies after graduation."
"That's right", Hermione nodded. "According to our research, most people, except for members of Pureblood families, have no further opportunities for advanced study after graduation. From Lucius Malfoy and Mrs. Greengrass, we learned that some Halfbloods or poor Purebloods joined the Death Eaters simply because Voldemort offered them knowledge."
"I see. I must say you are pursuing a grand goal. I wish you all the best", Dumbledore stroked his beard, looking pleased. "By the way, have you prepared your teachers and location?"
"Of course, we have", Liam smiled. He had already done a lot of preparation for this, not just now. "Professor Lupin has agreed to my invitation, and Ollivanders has also agreed to share his knowledge when he has time."
"As for the school's location", Liam looked up at the Aerial Fortress. "We will open the Aerial Fortress as our school. A unique school like this should attract those who seek knowledge. We will also apply the useful technologies from our research to promote the development of the wizarding world."
"That's excellent", Dumbledore said, looking at Ryan and the others. "The British Wizarding World has stagnated for too long. I hope you can bring about the changes everyone hopes for."
After leaving Dumbledore's office that day, Ryan and the others joined the celebration downstairs. They received news from all over: the people under the Imperius Curse were gradually returning to normal, most Death Eaters had been captured, and only a few had fled but were still being pursued.
Meanwhile, Minister of Magic Amelia Bones announced the establishment of the Post-War Reconciliation and Settlement Committee, which she and Professor Dumbledore would lead to address the various issues left by the war.
In short, the old history had been completely turned over, and a bright and new future was about to begin.
