Chapter 753: The Party
Chapter 753: The Party
The Gryffindor students were unusually exuberant that afternoon, as if they had just defeated not Ravenclaw but had already won the House Cup for this year's Quidditch tournament.
Back in the common room, Lee Jordan mysteriously shared the gossip he had overheard.
The Slytherin players who had conspired to frame Harry had been punished and were now serving detention with Filch.
It was said that Draco Malfoy would be spending the night scrubbing bedpans in the hospital wing tomorrow.
This good news undoubtedly added to the cheerful mood of Harry and Ron.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, someone cast a spell on the Prophet from a few days ago, making it loudly recite Rita Skeeter's article, reminding everyone about the horrors of Dementors and mocking the ignorant and foolish attempts of the Slytherins who had tried to frame Harry.
Disguising themselves as Dementors to scare people?
The whole common room was filled with laughter at the antics of those Slytherin students.
Laughter echoed throughout the room.
Pushing through the crowd, Oliver Wood hurried towards Albert by the fireplace. He looked around as if searching for something, "Do you know where Fred and George are?"
Without waiting for Albert to answer, Wood continued in a worried tone, "Those two said they'd help get snacks and drinks for the party with the money I collected, but they disappeared with it."
"Don't worry, Wood. I'm sure Fred and George won't run off with the money," Albert reassured him quietly. "You should have faith in them."
"I'm just worried they won't be able to get the snacks and drinks. It won't look good for me if we don't have enough for everyone, considering I already collected money for the party," Wood said, a little glum.
"Don't worry, Fred and George will definitely be able to get us what we need," Lee Jordan said, putting an arm around Wood's shoulder. "We should head to the kitchen and see if we can get some food from there. Just snacks won't be enough. By the way, where's Albert? I just saw him here a moment ago."
"Don't know!" Wood thought Lee Jordan's idea was good, at least more reliable than Fred and George's proposal.
"It's best if we take Albert with us. That guy's really tight with the house-elves in the kitchen," Lee Jordan scanned the room, trying to spot Albert in the crowd. Before he could find him, Wood pulled him away.
When the two returned from the kitchen, they had a large pile of food, but Lee Jordan didn't seem satisfied. He muttered, "I told you we should've brought Albert."
"We already got a lot of food, didn't we?" Wood didn't understand why Lee Jordan wanted Albert to come along.
Was it because three people could take more food?
Lee Jordan didn't explain further. The treatment Albert received in the kitchen was indeed different.
The house-elves were even happy to cook delicious treats for Albert on the spot, instead of just handing over cold meat pies and biscuits.
After disappearing for several hours, Fred and George finally reappeared in the common room. What annoyed Wood the most was that they didn't bring anything back, "Where are the snacks and drinks? Don't tell me you didn't get anything."
"Don't worry, Wood! We got everything we need for the party," Fred said, pulling out a bag and starting to take out its contents. Several jugs of butterbeer, bottles of fizzing pumpkin juice, and large bags of Honeydukes sweets were produced.
"Where did you get all this from?" Angelina took a bottle of fizzing pumpkin juice from Fred and asked curiously.
"We got a little help!" George said mysteriously.
An abundance of cookies, cakes, and pies were laid out on the tables in the common room, and wizarding pop music filled the corners of the room. Fred and George began tossing Toad-Breath toads to the crowd.
Albert waved his wand lightly, conjuring countless cups on an empty table, filling them with butterbeer.
Fred and George set off the fireworks they had made, and a lion made of fireworks roared above their heads, finally bursting into a dazzling display.
“This is Fred and I's new product. It's not bad, right?”
George stood quietly beside Albert, a proud look on his face as he said, "We've decided to specialize in making these fireworks and sell them to any colleges that want to hold parties."
"You're quite the businessman!" Albert marveled at the twins' aptitude in this area as he gazed up at the exploding fireworks.
The party continued from the afternoon into the evening, and Albert couldn't understand how everyone could maintain such high energy. After returning from Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, he was surprised to find that the celebration was still going strong.
Fred and George were entertaining the crowd with amusing tricks, drawing a large group around them.
However, what caught Albert's attention was that, in the midst of this lively party, someone was sitting alone in a corner.
"Appropriate relaxation is more conducive to studying. There's no need to be so uptight all the time." Albert placed a cup of butterbeer on the table in front of Hermione. "Won't you join us for a drink?"
"Thanks." Hermione hesitated for a moment but eventually gave in to Albert's kindness, setting aside her thick book and taking a sip from the cup.
" 'The Life and Social Habits of the British Muggle Family'?" Albert glanced at the book Hermione was reading and frowned. "To be honest, I don't think you really need that."
"Studying them from a wizarding perspective is fascinating," Hermione said sincerely.
"No, I don't find it fascinating at all," Albert disagreed. "Most wizards don't understand Muggles and aren't willing to learn about them. I know the guy who wrote that book, and even he admits that it's a bit outdated."
"Outdated? How so?" Hermione was taken aback.
"The Muggle world is developing faster than you think," Albert explained. "That's the advantage of technology." He decided to drop the subject and continued, "Actually, if you're willing, you could write your own book introducing the Muggle world and their way of life to wizards. It would help wizards disguise and blend in better."
"Write my own book?" Hermione was surprised by Albert's suggestion.
"When it comes to the Muggle world, no one has more authority than a witch or wizard who lives in it," Albert said as he grabbed a few treacle tarts from the nearby table and handed one to Hermione. "Have something to eat. It'll help lift your mood. If I were you, I wouldn't try to study in such a noisy place. Also..."
Albert lowered his voice and said, "If you want to make up with them, just apologize to Ron. I don't think he'll stay mad at you. He's like an angry cat; you just need to smooth his fur. It's not that hard. You just need the courage to take the first step."
"You also think I was wrong," Hermione said, looking up at Albert.
"No, I just think that only children would hold a grudge like this," Albert replied.
With that, Albert turned and headed back to the dormitory to rest. As for how long the party would last, he didn't want to know or care.
Hermione watched as Albert walked away, took a bite of the treacle tart, and then returned her gaze to her thick book. But her mind was occupied by Albert's words.
As she gathered her things to return to the dormitory, Harry approached and asked, "You didn't come to watch the game?"
"Of course, I did," Hermione closed her book and assured Harry. "You did well. I always believed that you would catch the Golden Snitch and win the match for us."
"Thanks," Harry said, his tone softening. He gestured to the table laden with food and asked, "Won't you have something to eat?"
"No, I've already eaten. I have to finish this book by Monday, and there are still four hundred and twenty-two pages left," Hermione replied, a hint of fatigue in her voice. "Plus, there are some who don't want me here."
"If Scabbers hadn't been eaten, he could've eaten a few of those Fudge Flies. He always loved them..." Ron, who had clearly overheard Hermione, said loudly.
"Good night, Harry."
Hermione's voice was a little choked up as she tucked the large book under her arm and quickly made her way toward the staircase leading to the girls' dormitory. In the blink of an eye, she was gone.
