Chapter 752: The Mastermind Falls
Chapter 752: The Mastermind Falls
In the five or six minutes after the protective shield was destroyed, time seemed to drag on for Liam. He hoped that the people fighting alongside him would survive the war. In this respect, he and Voldemort shared a common desire for a one-on-one battle to begin as soon as possible.
Of course, Liam's confidence came from the Magic Tower on the Aerial Fortress. He believed that even a Dark Wizard as knowledgeable as Voldemort could never imagine that a Magic Tower from another world could boost a person's casting ability to an extremely terrifying level in a short amount of time.
However, to ensure that this crucial point remained hidden from Voldemort, Liam had to avoid drawing attention to it. He couldn't actively seek out Voldemort; instead, he had to act as if he was stalling for time, concealing his trump card.
Fortunately, time was not on Voldemort's side in the current battle. Even Voldemort couldn't guess how long his backup plan at the London Ministry of Magic would keep Dumbledore occupied. But one thing was certain: the longer the battle dragged on, the higher the probability that Dumbledore would suddenly appear and join the fight at Hogwarts Castle.
Voldemort would not allow his carefully planned all-or-nothing strike to fail at the last moment. Liam believed that he only needed to be patient, as the situation would force Voldemort to make the first move.
After all, if this operation failed, Voldemort would lose all the resources he had accumulated over the past few decades. Then, Ryan and the others would hunt him down like a cornered dog. This was absolutely unacceptable to the prideful Voldemort, who would rather take a bold gamble at this moment than face such a dire outcome.
Everything unfolded as Liam had analyzed. After the stalemate continued for another three minutes, a black mist suddenly rose from behind the puppets and Death Eaters. A blinding white beam, identical to the one that had destroyed Hogwarts Castle, shot toward the Aerial Fortress. Fortunately, a modular energy Magic shield suddenly appeared in front of the white light and successfully blocked the attack.
"Got you." Liam fixed his gaze on the rapidly flying black mist, summoned his pink wings, and took off into the sky. He transformed into a streak of light, hurtling toward the black shadow in the air. As he left the ground, he quickly traced intricate and delicate runes in the air with his wand.
When he was about thirty to forty meters away from Voldemort, the black mist abruptly halted in mid-air, revealing a black humanoid figure. The figure raised his wand and aimed at Liam, firing a barrage of green beams like a machine gun.
Sure enough, Voldemort's attack on the Aerial Fortress was just a decoy, designed to lure Liam out. Liam, who was well aware of this, did not fall for the trick. Seeing the rain of Killing Curses, he immediately dispelled the simple runes illusion he had created, then sharply folded his wings and plummeted to avoid most of the spells.
After dropping several meters, he spread his wings again and swiftly moved to the left, evading a few more Killing Curses from Voldemort. It had to be admitted that Voldemort was indeed powerful. Liam had never seen anyone else cast Killing Curses as effortlessly and continuously as Voldemort.
"You finally showed yourself", Voldemort floated in the air, his lipless mouth twisting, and his unique cold voice echoed across the battlefield. "I'll say this again: hand over Harry Potter, and I will leave with my followers. The great Lord Voldemort knows how to appreciate courage. Everyone can see that if I join the battle, those scrap metal—"
"My robots don't need to block you, because this task is mine", Liam interrupted Voldemort, then rapidly ascended and hurled a series of blue lightning-tinged white fireballs. Voldemort had to conjure several silver-blue flame shields to block the fireballs coming from all angles.
His face first showed surprise, then an unprecedented rage. Since he had used Magic to alter his appearance and change his name, no one had dared to interrupt him in such a manner.
"Scum like you, a Mudblood, must die a miserable death." After deflecting Liam's Fireball, Voldemort waved his wand, summoning a Colossal Serpent made of dark clouds from the surrounding air. The Colossal Serpent lunged at Liam, spewing blue Fireballs from its mouth.
The cloud serpent seemed to have a life of its own. While Liam's spells managed to disperse part of its misty body, the Colossal Serpent quickly replenished itself by drawing more dark clouds from the thin air. In this situation, Liam was forced to fight while retreating, pursued by both the Colossal Serpent and Voldemort.
"Filthy Mudblood, turn around and face me in a proper duel. Don't scurry around like a hunted mouse." Voldemort laughed maniacally, casting spells and taunting Liam. "Turn around and fight me head-on!"
"As you wish." To Voldemort's surprise, Liam suddenly stopped and landed on the Astronomy Tower of Hogwarts Castle. He raised his wand and looked at Voldemort.
At that moment, Voldemort realized he had flown too far while chasing Liam, placing him in the sky between the Aerial Fortress and Hogwarts Castle. However, after glancing at the resistance fighters below, who were struggling against the Death Eaters, he let out a sneer.
"You have indeed lured me away from my followers, but it seems your allies have not arrived in time." He landed on the Astronomy Tower and made the black cloud serpent coil around him. "Now, die!"
"That's what I intended to say to you." Liam swung his wand, and an invisible wave of magic power surged from the Aerial Fortress above, enveloping the entire Astronomy Tower.
"What—what is this?" Voldemort's eyes widened in disbelief. He discovered that the black mist serpent he had summoned had vanished as if it had never existed, and he had not sensed any anomaly during the process.
"This is my magic", Liam said, drawing the Blade of the Enemy from his spatial pocket and staring into Voldemort's eyes.
"A Mudblood is still a Mudblood, resorting to such low-level Muggle weapons." Seeing Liam pull out the two-handed sword, Voldemort sneered and raised his wand. But when he waved it, nothing happened. He furrowed his brow and waved it again quickly, but the result was the same.
"This is an Anti-Magic Field!" Realizing he could not cast any spells, Voldemort's eyes filled with intense fear. He now understood what Liam's trump card was.
Long ago, he had considered himself an absolute killer, a deity above all, ready to bring death to all who opposed him, becoming the master of death. But when the blade of death turned on him, and death drew near, Voldemort found himself as afraid as any mortal.
Watching Liam approach with his sword, Voldemort frantically waved his wand and backed away step by step until he hit the protective wall of the Astronomy Tower. The coolness from the stone wall behind him finally calmed his chaotic mind.
"I still have so many Horcruxes; I won't die here." With this thought, Voldemort steadied himself. But before he could utter any threats, Liam raised his sword and swung it with all his might.
With a soft "puff", a white light, gentle as a spring breeze, swept across Voldemort's neck, leaving a trail of red-black waves.
Voldemort's expression froze, his last expression a complex mix of thought and confusion. The red-black lines on his neck grew longer, and finally, his head separated from his body and rolled to the ground.
Voldemort died simply, like the most ordinary person. His headless body slowly slid down the wall, and his unusually smooth head stopped rolling at Liam's feet.
But it was not over yet. Liam looked down at the battle raging below the castle walls and realized he still had much to do.
