Chapter 752: Reunion with Nicolas Flamel
Chapter 752: Reunion with Nicolas Flamel
In a loft several dozen meters away, Ivan watched two Aurors questioning passersby below. He turned to Asia and asked curiously,
"Will anyone actually believe what we say?"
"Don't worry, Fenrir has already coordinated the stories of all the Wizards in Knockturn Alley. No matter how the Aurors investigate, they'll get the same information. They'll have to believe it", Asia said with a smile.
This outcome was exactly what Fudge wanted. Based on their judgment, the Ministry of Magic wouldn't conduct a thorough investigation.
"Still, we should send some people to make contact and probe them", Ivan said cautiously. The changes in Knockturn Alley were too significant to be covered up with just a few words. It was best to be careful.
"Agreed", Asia nodded, not disputing Ivan's words.
Sunny and Delius were old acquaintances, whom she had met a few years ago. She had some rapport with both of them and understood them fairly well.
The young girl Sunny was innocent and easy to deceive, while Delius, though shrewd, had his own agenda and might be convinced to join them.
With this in mind, Asia decided to meet them personally at a convenient time.
Ivan merely gave a brief reminder and didn't say more.
To him, these two Aurors were minor players. Even if they stumbled upon some secrets, they wouldn't cause any significant trouble.
His caution in warning Asia about them was purely out of prudence.
Having already spent a considerable amount of time in Knockturn Alley, Ivan didn't linger. After confirming that the Aurors posed no threat, he returned to the Underground Fortress, packed his belongings, and prepared to leave.
Asia was reluctant to see him go but didn't try to stop him.
For Ivan, who had mastered Apparition, traveling between the two places took only an instant. If there were no pressing matters, he could return once a week.
After bidding farewell to Asia, Ivan picked up his small trunk, focused on the coordinates in his mind, and waved his wand, uttering the spell.
"Apparition!"
With a spatial shift, Ivan vanished from the spot.
When he regained his senses, he found himself in a spacious courtyard, surrounded by a variety of flowers and plants. Strange alchemical creatures were "crunching" away, trimming the overgrown shrubs.
"It's good to be back. This place is so peaceful", Ivan said, looking around with a sigh of contentment. For him, Nicolas Flamel's safe house was like a haven far from the troubles of the world.
Here, there were no annoying intrigues, no safety concerns, and he could learn a great deal of advanced alchemical knowledge. It was almost perfect.
If he could, he wouldn't mind staying here for a year or two.
As he thought, Ivan walked quickly toward the house in the center of the courtyard. As he stepped onto the stairs, the wall in front of him split open, revealing a square passage with jagged spikes on both sides, resembling the gaping maw of a giant beast.
Ivan suspected that the house itself might be a colossal alchemical creature, but his current alchemical skills weren't advanced enough to discern the details.
"Urra… Urra…"
Ivan had just stepped inside when a large group of Alchemical Creatures, each about the size of a finger and making chirping noises, swarmed around him, circling his feet.
“It’s been a while, Ukaka. Where’s Master?” Ivan picked up one of the “Little Turnips” and asked with a smile.
The small Alchemical Creature was suddenly lifted high into the air, startling it. It clung tightly to Ivan’s finger with its limbs, too scared to fall and too panicked to answer.
Fortunately, the other “Little Turnips” on the ground were unaffected. They all shouted excitedly, pointing their fingers toward the living room.
“Thank you.”
Ivan gently placed the Alchemical Creature back on the ground and walked down the corridor, entering the living room.
Nicolas Flamel was sitting by the window, engrossed in a thick book, occasionally sipping his tea. It wasn’t until he heard the commotion at the door that he slowly turned his head and saw Ivan walking in from the hallway.
“You’re back…” Nicolas Flamel said without a hint of surprise, closing his book and greeting him.
“I received your letter a few days ago, but I had some family matters to attend to, so I was delayed a bit.” Ivan sat down on a chair in the living room, a bit embarrassed. His eyes casually swept over the book in Nicolas Flamel’s hands and then paused.
The cover was sketched in black and white, depicting a short Wizard surrounded by a group of people, giving him a familiar feeling.
Wait a moment… Could this be…
Ivan’s mind was in a daze. He looked at Nicolas Flamel with a last shred of hope. “Master, the book you’re reading…”
“Of course, it’s the New Century Manifesto you wrote.” Nicolas Flamel explained with a chuckle, then continued.
“Last summer, you left it in your room, and Ukaka found it while tidying up. I thought it was just a regular pamphlet, so I read it without your permission…”
Ivan was completely stunned. Nicolas Flamel’s reminder jogged his memory.
Asia had indeed given him the New Century Manifesto the day before the start of the school year. He had stayed up all night reading it and, in a fit of anger, threw it across the room. The next morning, he woke up late and completely forgot about it, rushing to catch his train.
He never imagined that the Alchemical Creatures would find the book and hand it over to Nicolas Flamel.
Ivan’s face turned bright red with embarrassment.
It felt like he had written a naughty book in secret, only to return home and find his relatives and friends gathered around reading it. He was so mortified that he wished he could bury himself somewhere.
“Master, that book was just something a friend wrote casually. Please don’t take it seriously,” Ivan said sheepishly, mentally cursing Gryson for writing the book.
“I found it quite interesting…” Nicolas Flamel didn’t seem to care who Ivan’s friend was, instead hinting, “It seems you’re working toward the same goals, aren’t you?”
