Chapter 752: Opposition and Faith
Chapter 752: Opposition and Faith
The reality of the situation was beyond imagination.
Looking at the messages in his friend channel, Lindsey was momentarily taken aback.
He never expected that while he was dealing with a few Subhuman attackers on the human side, Alice's situation would be completely different, with the Righteous Ones aiding the Subhumans and attacking the humans.
The essence of this matter was the clash of strong and weak stances.
Lindsey encountered a situation where the Subhumans were powerful and the humans were weak, so he naturally chose to help the latter, while Alice's experience was the opposite.
Due to this coincidence, the two companions, who were supposed to be on the same side, ended up on different paths.
At the same time, on the other side of the communication.
Alice swung her longsword, beheading a human scoundrel.
The hostility between the Subhumans and humans was intense.
So, when she teleported in front of the humans, the battle erupted immediately, and Alice didn't hesitate to take on the responsibility of protecting the weak.
After a fierce skirmish, the remaining humans turned and fled.
The Subhumans whom Alice had protected gathered around, gazing at the Righteous One before them with adoration.
Alice smiled bitterly, aware of the gazes around her, and she knew exactly what she was doing.
The girl sighed and then continued the conversation in the friend channel.
Alice: 【Lindsey, are you helping the humans against the Subhumans?】
Lindsey: 【The situation I encountered here is that these Subhumans launched an unprovoked attack on the humans.
...
Alice, the hatred between the two races has formed a chain, and neither justice nor stance is absolute.】
Alice: 【I support your choice.】
Lindsey: 【I thought you'd scold me and then draw your sword against me because of our differing stances?】
Alice: 【If, when we finally meet, our stances still contradict each other, I won't hesitate.】
Lindsey: 【...You really don't give any face!】
Alice: 【Lindsey, you're my savior, so I won't lie to you. And if I defeat you because of our differing stances, I will atone with my life once the matters in the City of Law are settled.】
Lindsey: 【...Don't worry. I'll defeat you with a smile, and then I'll take you with me to the City of Law to end this disaster.】
Alice: 【Thank you very much.】
【...】
With that, the friend channel fell silent.
Lindsey scratched his head, but instead of bitterness, he smiled as if it were only natural:
"Righteous One."
"Hey—Righteous One, that's what it's all about."
"Anyway, let's fix this spatial anomaly here first, then head east to the City of Law and deal with the root of it all!"
Lindsey stretched his arms and shoulders.
He then turned to leave, leaving behind the humans in the town, even though he intended to help them. He had placed down the Tactical Command base, but with spatial transfer, it would become useless, and attempting to turn the tide through large-scale warfare was just a fantasy.
"Hmm..."
"According to the artist, this is still a solitary hero's expedition."
Lindsey hummed the BGM of Dragon Quest softly as he made his way towards the east of the town.
The sun above him was his guiding light.
This was just one of many silent farewells encountered during the journey.
But just as Lindsey was about to leave, Arona, surrounded by the crowd, activated her skill and pushed through the people, running towards Lindsey:
"Lindsey-sama, please wait!"
"You saved my life, and I haven't repaid you yet!"
"Repay?"
"Then you should live well." Lindsey waved his hand dismissively. "You know what it's like when high-stage Awakened ones fight. Take care of yourself and others."
Lindsey continued walking, but Arona suddenly spoke up.
"Weren't you planning to go to the world's center and end this spatial anomaly?"
"I have some valuable information that might be of use to you!"
Lindsey's steps halted.
He turned to look at Arona, who was hurrying to catch up.
Behind the blind girl, a crowd of people followed, jostling each other as they approached, all with bewildered expressions directed at Lindsey.
Though he was their savior.
To these sensitive humans, powerhouses meant danger and uncertainty.
"Information..."
Lindsey couldn't bring himself to leave.
After years of adventuring, he understood the importance of intelligence better than anyone, especially when it involved a battlefield with multiple Seventh Stage Awakened ones.
He pointed to a nearby house, "Since you have information, let's find a quiet place to discuss this properly."
"And regarding your followers, I have many questions I'd like to ask in detail."
Arona nodded.
Though she couldn't see the surroundings, she could sense the atmosphere from the people's breathing.
As a leader among the followers, she turned to those nearby and made a request, "Everyone, we've come to a town; let's take this opportunity to gather food and carry it with us! Mr. Lindsey escorted me here safely, and he's a trustworthy friend. I have matters to discuss with him in detail!"
The crowd, once enthusiastic and wary, dispersed at the request of their higher-ranked follower.
Seeing this, Lindsey led Arona into a nearby residence.
They sat across from each other at a tea table, with two Awakened guards standing behind Arona.
Arona, more confident than when she was alone, spoke up for the first time, "Mr. Lindsey, I know some truths about the cause of the spatial anomaly. It was the result of a powerful anomaly substance. For decades, this treasure was controlled by a powerful Elemental Being."
"But just a few months ago, a war enraged that gentle Elemental Being, leading to everything that has happened since."
Arona shared the information calmly.
The blind girl exuded confidence, and indeed, this was invaluable intelligence.
However, Lindsey, after a moment of silence, didn't continue the conversation on this topic.
Instead, he abruptly asked, "Arona, tell me, what is your faith?"
Lindsey's gaze was intense as he stared at Arona.
Though blind, Arona sensed the tension in the room through the atmosphere.
"Hmm..."
Arona sighed and straightened her posture. Her tone was sincere as she addressed Lindsey, "The Righteous One."
"Our faith is in the Righteous One and the Laws they established!"
