Chapter 750: Ivan Hals' Plan
Chapter 750: Ivan Hals' Plan
Lucius's body trembled. He knew he couldn't escape today and steeled himself to speak. "Master... those Wizards who took the photos were all terrified of your power and fled to America. I arrived... too late..."
"So, they're all still alive, then?" Voldemort interrupted Lucius impatiently, his voice filled with menace.
"Master, please give me one more month... two weeks... no, just one week. I will bring their bodies to you, I swear..." Lucius fell to his knees before Voldemort, abandoning all his Pureblood pride and noble demeanor, begging pitifully.
"Lucius, I have given you many chances, but you have squandered them all." Voldemort looked at him with deep disappointment and then suddenly asked, "Is the diary I stored at Malfoy Manor still there?"
Lucius Malfoy, kneeling and pleading, froze, cold sweat dripping from his forehead. He hadn't expected Voldemort to ask about this. The diary had been...
"You gave it to Ivan Hals, didn't you?" Voldemort spoke slowly, a hint of murderous intent flashing in his red eyes.
"Master, I was only following your orders, waiting for the right moment to bring it to Hogwarts to kill those Muggle-borns who don't deserve to be Wizards. I gave it to Ivan Hals to use your power to kill him..." Lucius's body shook uncontrollably as he stammered.
"But you failed to accomplish any of these tasks. You let my Diary be destroyed and even endangered another important item... Can you guess how I will punish you, Lucius?"
Voldemort's gaze grew sharper. Without waiting for Lucius to respond, he angrily waved his wand.
"Crucio~ (Crucio)"
An indescribable pain instantly engulfed Lucius. He felt as if his flesh were being torn apart, collapsing to the ground and writhing in agony.
Draco, standing nearby, was utterly terrified. He wanted to shout or rush to his father's aid, but all his courage vanished the moment he saw Voldemort. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he watched his father being tormented by the Cruciatus Curse.
After about a minute, Voldemort lowered his wand, and the screams and cries in the atrium ceased.
Lucius struggled to his feet, his body a mess, and pleaded weakly, "Master... please, give me one more chance. I have always been loyal to you, Master."
"That is why I have spared your life, Lucius..." Voldemort tapped his wand lightly and turned his gaze to Draco. "At least, you followed my orders and brought your son here."
Seeing Voldemort's attention shift to him, Draco took a few terrified steps back, nearly falling over.
Lucius, fearing that Draco might say something to offend Voldemort, quickly interjected, "Master, my son Draco is only fifteen years old and very weak. He probably won't be much help..."
"I think he might be more useful than you." Voldemort interrupted Lucius, his gaze fixed on Draco, and asked casually, "I heard you and Ivan Hals are in the same year and have some connection, don't you, Draco?"
Draco's face turned deathly pale, and he shook his head frantically. "No, Master, I have nothing to do with him. Hals is the person I despise the most. He always protects Potter and Weasley and causes trouble for me. Professor Snape can vouch for me!"
With that, Draco turned to Snape, as if he had found a lifeline.
Snape did not disappoint him and nodded immediately. "Yes, Master, many people at Hogwarts know that Draco and Ivan Hals do not get along."
"Yes, I wish I could kill him!" Draco Malfoy shouted in fear.
"Excellent. If that's the case, then go and kill him!" Voldemort said with a cold laugh.
Draco's face froze, his mind reeling. After a moment, he stammered, "But... but I am not his match..."
"Of course, I don't expect you to face him directly, Draco." Voldemort spoke gently, "You can think of other ways, like poisoning his food or setting traps."
With each word Voldemort spoke, Draco's face grew paler, and his body trembled uncontrollably.
Lucius had not expected Voldemort to suddenly order his son to assassinate Ivan Hals.
Given Hals' cunning and strength, the chances of success were slim to none. This was a death sentence.
Realizing this, Lucius could not care less about offending the Dark Lord and was about to plead for him to reconsider, but Voldemort's deliberate and intimidating presence forced him to swallow his words.
Draco was now cornered. He looked around desperately, hoping someone would come to his aid, but no one responded.
Voldemort approached Draco step by step.
Staring at the eerie snake-like face so close to his own, Draco nodded in sheer terror.
"Very well, Draco. You are a brave child." Voldemort placed his hand on Draco's shoulder with a satisfied smile.
"If you succeed in this, I will not only overlook your father's mistakes but also consider you my loyal right-hand man and... successor!"
Voldemort's words seemed to carry a magical quality. Draco couldn't help but imagine the glory of being publicly praised and having the Death Eaters obey his every command. He nodded even more forcefully.
Just then, a voice spoke up.
"Master, didn't you want me to stir up a conflict between Hals and Dumbledore? If Draco acts now, it might ruin everything."
Voldemort turned around, slightly displeased, to see that it was Snape who had spoken.
Snape did not avert his gaze but his face showed a hint of confusion and concern.
Voldemort stared at Snape for a moment, then laughed and explained.
"Severus, one must always have multiple plans. If your scheme to create conflict fails, Draco will still be useful..."
