Chapter 75: Is My Pokemon a Bit of a Problem?
Chapter 75: Is My Pokemon a Bit of a Problem?
As twilight descended, Ethan Hall knelt with a sense of unease. He sat cross-legged in front of the "Berry Mix Machine," a notebook in his hands.
Beside him lay several energy cubes, though their flavors were still a bit off.
"Technically, there shouldn’t be too much of an issue. The stirring speed is a bit hard to control, which might cause a bit of error, but this small error shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
After all, the "Berry Mix machine" in the real world is highly automated, and the higher the price, the more automated it is. The main thing is still the recipe.
But he followed the recipe strictly, just as his mentor, Professor Azure, had provided it.
"Let’s try again!"
Determined, Ethan Hall once again added Appletun Berries and some other ingredients into the machine.
As they watched, Gideon quietly hid in the ceiling, and Zoey drilled under the table.
They had tried many times, and the flavor had improved with each attempt, but it was still not quite right.
Soon, in a slight "buzz" sound, another energy cube was completed.
"Gideon, Zoey," Ethan Hall called out, holding a few energy cubes on a plate.
He scanned the room to ensure they weren’t seen.
"Alright, don’t hide, I need to see you."
"Come on, Gideon!"
"Ow!"
The two little ones, Gideon and Zoey, could only run out from the ceiling and under the table.
"Taste this, I think I’ve found the key. Look at these, they are clearly of higher quality," Ethan Hall said seriously.
He was right! Gideon and Zoey found one.
They looked a lot better than before.
Without hesitation, Ethan Hall gave them each a cube.
"Come on!"
Gideon looked at the energy cubes in his hand, swallowing hard, mumbling.
"What if you don’t eat it?"
"I’m a human, how can I take away your fear of food?"
"But you just ate!"
"You’re watching it, aren’t you?"
Gideon and Zoey looked at Ethan Hall.
The two little ones closed their eyes.
The sight of them acting like they were facing death made Ethan Hall’s eyes twitch.
In the end, they still "ouw" and slowly ate it down.
"Come on! (=′`=)"
The two little ones, "ouw~~(ˊˋ)"
"What is this reaction?" Ethan Hall asked, puzzled.
The next second.
Gideon pounced right up.
Zoey also jumped onto Ethan Hall’s body.
"Wait! Let me taste!"
Realizing the situation, Ethan Hall quickly picked up a cube and put it in his mouth.
The moment he bit down, the energy cube burst in his mouth like a jelly, sweet with a perfect mix of tartness and a hint of bitterness, the scene before his eyes like a summer day from long ago.
Ethan Hall, Gideon, and Zoey sat by the table, the last energy cube still in the center of the plate.
"Come on~~()"
Gideon glanced at Ethan Hall.
"Before, didn’t you say you wouldn’t eat it? An energy cube, how does that make sense as a trainer?"
Ethan Hall’s expression remained unchanged.
"As a trainer, tasting an energy cube isn’t very normal? ‘Pomelo Berry’ I’ve eaten how many?"
"Ow." Zoey called out softly.
"What did you see?"
"Come on!"
Foamurt! (Assumed to be a Pokemon move/exclamation, left as-is for context)
"Shenjiai" (No direct English equivalent found; possibly a term or phrase specific to the story's universe. If more context is provided, a more accurate replacement can be attempted)
Noticing Gideon and Zoey’s gaze, Ethan Hall coughed lightly, "Alright, you don’t know me."
They looked at Zoey again.
It slowly lowered its head.
"Ow."
"Mom."
Ethan Hall and Gideon fell silent.
Together, they pushed the plate in front of Zoey.
"Ow!"
Zoey, without hesitation, ate it in one bite.
A cunning smile appeared on Ethan Hall’s face.
But now I have all of you, the little Vulpix thought to itself.
The little fox, under the influence of Jing He and Gastly, gradually began to show its "crafty" side.
"Since it was a success."
Jing He stood up.
"Let's make another one."
One successful batch meant the recipe was sound. There might have been a slight timing issue during the first attempt, which could have affected the taste and texture.
It was a good thing.
Although he had spent quite a bit of money, perfecting the energy block recipe would make it much easier to support Gastly and the Vulpix in the long run. Not to mention, he still had an unhatched Pokemon egg.
If it hatched into a Carnivine or a Togepi, those big eaters would probably drain his savings.
‘If only it hatched into a Caterpie.’
‘Or a Weepinbell; it could evolve into a Voltorb, and I wouldn’t have to pay for electricity anymore.’
‘A Miltank would be even better; I’d never have to worry about them being malnourished.’
"Kya~"
On the couch, Gastly held a TM for the move "Trick," its face serious. Beside it was a notebook.
Jing He had copied and organized notes from the Fear Guide, a book by Gym Leader Janine, which included tips on learning and mastering the move "Trick."
"Vulpix~"
The little Vulpix lay on the edge of the couch behind Gastly, its small face equally serious and focused.
The two of them occasionally exchanged a few words.
If you didn’t listen closely, you might think they were discussing the nuances of learning new moves.
"Kya?" (What do you think we’ll have for breakfast tomorrow?)
"Oo~ Vulpix~" (It won’t be scrambled eggs; we had those today.)
"Kya~" (Maybe it will be Bidoof meat pies and Eevee mashed potatoes? It’s been a while since we had those.)
"Oo Vulpix!" (I love Eevee mashed potatoes!)
"."
Meanwhile, Jing He, who was deeply engrossed in making energy blocks, was actually thinking about something else.
It had been a while since he had caught the Vulpix. The little one was actually much stronger than it seemed, but its past experiences had left it timid, lacking confidence, and very shy. Despite this, it had a strong, resilient spirit and never skipped a training session.
Since it wanted to pursue the path of battling, Jing He was willing to train it in that direction. However, the question was how to arrange its first battle. The first battle needed to build the Vulpix’s confidence, but it couldn’t be too easy, or it would seem like a setup.
"Ding—"
His phone suddenly buzzed.
Jing He picked it up and realized he had grabbed the wrong one. It was Gastly’s phone. Since both phones were acquired through expense reports, they were almost identical. The only way to tell them apart was by which one didn’t have Gastly’s saliva on it.
Gastly’s phone was filled with the shows it watched, especially the recent hit "The Adventures of Foamy Squirrel," which even the Vulpix had become hooked on.
"Huh?"
"Wait a minute."
"The Foamy Squirrel’s Egg Hatching Group"
"The Gastly’s Egg Group"
You little scamp.
Jing He looked at Gastly.
Gastly, unaware of the situation, gave him a mischievous grin.
"Kya!"
No, you’re already thinking that far ahead?
Jing He rubbed his forehead.
"Is there something wrong with my Pokemon?"
After some consideration, he decided it was Gastly’s privacy.
‘I’ll pretend I didn’t see it. At least its preferences are in the right direction.’
Feeling a bit overwhelmed, Jing He picked up his own phone.
It was from "Eevee Eats Cabbage," someone he hadn’t heard from in a while.

Good luck with your college entrance exams!
