Chapter 75: Hmph, Humans
Chapter 75: Hmph, Humans
Dust filled the air, obscuring the scene.
Though it was hard to make out the details, one thing was certain—even Ye Cang, who had only been caught in the blast's aftermath, was severely injured. There was no chance that Feng Ye, who had borne the brunt of the explosion, could have survived.
"There should be some remnants, some fragments left behind..."
Mukino, a jonin of Sunagakure, stepped into the dusty battlefield, her gaze sweeping over the devastation. She made her way towards the center of the deep crater that had been blasted into the ground during the fight.
Ninjas typically carried their village's forehead protector and a 'nameplate', which allowed them to be identified even if their bodies were completely destroyed in battle.
Since both items were made of metal, they usually didn't perish along with the ninja.
Finding the forehead protector would reveal the origins of this powerful young ninja, and finding the 'nameplate' would confirm their identity.
"So, he was a ninja from Konohagakure..."
Mukino soon spotted some fragments at the bottom of the pit and walked over to pick up a piece of the ninja's forehead protector, which bore the symbol of Konohagakure.
However, the forehead protector only revealed Feng Ye's affiliation, not his identity. Mukino continued to search the area, hoping to find the 'nameplate' that would confirm who he was.
But!
Just as she was about to turn away, her body froze.
A sword blade suddenly appeared, piercing her chest from behind. Blood gushed from the wound, staining the charred earth beneath her.
Mukino's pupils constricted, and a look of disbelief crossed her face. She struggled to turn her head, catching a glimpse of the figure behind her—it was Feng Ye!
"How...?"
She managed to utter a few hoarse words.
Feng Ye's clothes were in tatters, but his exposed skin was unblemished, with no signs of burns or blast injuries. He was completely unscathed!
"My clothes are a problem, though."
Feng Ye sheathed his Kusanagi Sword without responding to her question and glanced down at his tattered outfit with a shake of his head.
This was probably the difference between him and the Impure World Reincarnation ninjas. While his clothes and external possessions couldn't be restored when damaged, the resurrected ninjas could regenerate.
Whoosh!
Feng Ye's figure flickered, and he leaped out of the crater.
The two jonin who had been supporting Ye Cang sensed the disturbance and their expressions changed drastically. When they saw Feng Ye, their eyes widened in shock.
However, their shock was meaningless.
Silver light flashed.
The two injured ninjas, already weakened and with chaotic chakra, couldn't react in time. Their bodies were sliced by the Kusanagi Sword, and they fell to the rain-soaked ground, their blood mixing with the rainwater.
"You!"
"Impossible!!!"
Ye Cang's pupils contracted sharply, and she stared at Feng Ye in disbelief. She tried to mobilize the chakra within her, but her severe injuries made it impossible. Instead, she coughed up a mouthful of blood and fell to her knees.
She couldn't believe what she was seeing—Feng Ye's body, revealed beneath his tattered clothes, was untouched, his skin smooth and unmarred.
She knew the power of her Blaze Release jutsu all too well. Within that barrier, her full-powered attack, coupled with the blast's aftermath, was something even the defensive-oriented Fourth Kazekage might not have been able to withstand. Yet, Feng Ye stood before her completely unharmed.
How had he done it?!
Feng Ye approached Ye Cang, who was kneeling on the ground, and the silver light surrounding him faded away. He didn't seem concerned about his body being seen.
Ye Cang formed hand seals, struggling to muster the remaining chakra within her. She released a burst of flame, sending it hurtling towards Feng Ye.
Ye Cang spat out a mouthful of blood and struggled to lift her head to look at Feng Ye's face. She wanted to know how he had done it.
But unfortunately, her consciousness began to fade, and she wouldn't know the answer.
As her vision darkened completely, she slowly closed her eyes, swayed, and fell backward.
"She's lost consciousness," Feng Ye remarked, observing the scene without moving closer. He continued to sense her, and only after perceiving her chakra gradually fading away did he frown slightly in surprise.
He cautiously approached and inspected her, but there was no response. It seemed that her severe injuries, coupled with chakra exhaustion, had led to her demise.
"I had intended to capture her alive..."
Feng Ye shook his head in dismay. Ye Cang was the kind of ninja worth attempting to capture alive, but it seemed he had been a little too forceful.
No.
Perhaps she had been scared by him and used up all her chakra with her final Fire Release technique.
If he could turn back time for others, he might have tried to resurrect her. But unfortunately, he couldn't, and he didn't know how to perform a technique like Impure World Reincarnation.
"Oh well."
"If the opportunity arises in the future, we can chat then."
Feng Ye sheathed his Kusanagi Sword and, after some thought, decided against doing anything with Ye Cang's body. Perhaps she would be resurrected through Impure World Reincarnation in the future, and they could have a conversation then.
Strange thoughts occasionally popped into his mind, perhaps due to his physical age of thirteen or fourteen. He had reached the age where his body naturally began to crave intimate company.
"Heh... humans..."
Feng Ye looked up at the sky, his thoughts wandering.
The Third Great Shinobi World War was a tumultuous era that bred countless geniuses.
There was Ye Cang from Sunagakure, Minato Namikaze and Itachi Uchiha from Konohagakure, the Fourth Raikage and Killer B from Kumogakure, the standout members of Kirigakure's Seven Ninja Swordsmen, and even the future Fifth Mizukage, Mei Terumi... the list was endless.
Now that he found himself in the midst of this war, he was bound to encounter and clash with these remarkable individuals.
"Aside from Minato Namikaze's Flying Thunder God Technique and Corpse Seal, the abilities of the others pose no threat to me... Hmm, the Raikage is hard to say. I'll need to further enhance my strength."
After murmuring to himself, Feng Ye bent down and searched Ye Cang's body, finding a small metal plaque engraved with her ninja rank and identification number in Sunagakure.
He had a similar plaque, typically used by villages to identify their ninjas in the event of their death. If it fell into the hands of an enemy ninja, it would become a war trophy, proof of their accomplishments.
These plaques were usually unnecessary, only coming into play during times of war.
Wars were chaotic, and it was easy for bodies to be blown to bits, making it impossible to confirm the identities of the deceased.
Whoosh!
Feng Ye collected the identification plaques from the other jonin and turned his gaze toward the direction from which Ye Cang and the others had come, narrowing his eyes.
Ye Cang and these jonin were likely the leaders of that squad. Sunagakure wasn't strong enough to dispatch a hundred-ninja unit led by two ninja of Kage-level strength.
The rest were mere grunts who posed no threat to him.
Since that was the case...
It would be best to take care of them all.
After using the fabric from Ye Cang and the others' clothing to patch up his own, Feng Ye casually beheaded several of the jonin and sealed away their heads. Then, he used Transformation Technique to take on the appearance of one of them and headed in the direction of the Sunagakure forces.
