Chapter 749: Shocking! A Certain Navy Vice Admiral is Actually a Billionaire!
Chapter 749: Shocking! A Certain Navy Vice Admiral is Actually a Billionaire!
Lucci glanced at him indifferently, saying, "Do as you please. In any case, I'll report the situation truthfully to my superiors."
This wasn't out of resentment or petty snitching—Lucci was simply providing feedback on his mission.
"Come on, no need to be so serious", Kuro chuckled, casually slinging an arm around Lucci's shoulder as they walked. "Since we both belong to the World Government's direct subordinate organization, shouldn't we present a united front? You complete your mission, I'll deal with my pirates. As for other matters, we can negotiate. Lucci, there's money to be taken—why not grab some? It's not conflicting with your mission, right?"
He raised three fingers with his free hand. "Thirty billion. That's how much we're taking from this haul."
"How much you take is your business, nothing to do with me", Lucci retorted, pulling away from Kuro's grip. "And don't get too close."
A group of Navy soldiers rushed over, carrying stretchers with several corpses. Among them were three World Nobles beaten beyond recognition.
"Lucci! Lucci officer!" Spandam came running forward, tears and snot streaming down his face behind his iron mask. "The World Nobles... they're all dead!"
"I already know. No need to say more", Lucci frowned, glancing at the corpses. "So ruthless... Who could do this?"
"Giruon, the Fist Technique Master", Kuro explained. "He personally admitted to doing it. Of course, he's already dead."
"How could this happen?!" Spandam pointed accusingly at Kuro. "With you three Admiral Candidates present, how could World Nobles still get hurt?! This is your responsibility! You must take responsibility!"
Kuro completely ignored him and asked Lucci, "CP9's current officer—Gabran? Or Kalifa?"
CP0, as the overarching CP organization, wasn't something every agent could join. Currently, Lucci had made it in, as well as Kaku with his long nose, though Kuro didn't know about the rest. Spandam, that idiot, was no longer a CP9 officer. With Lucci's return, the World Government's compromise had cost Spandam his position—now he was reassigned to CP0 as Lucci's subordinate.
"Blueno", Lucci replied indifferently.
"Oh? The big guy? He's not bad", Kuro nodded.
"Hey! Are you even listening to me!" Spandam continued shouting.
"Stop causing a scene", Kuro snapped. "Now that the World Nobles are dead, what can we do? Instead of looking for someone to take the blame here, why not go figure out how to explain this back? This has nothing to do with us. The people who should take responsibility are already corpses over there. If you want to collect their heads, remember to reattach them first."
He truly didn't care.
This was an unexpected incident. The Navy's explanation would be that Tezoro recruited pirates, but they lost control and killed the World Nobles. That was actually the truth. They were only here to capture the old pirates who escaped from Impel Down—standard Navy procedure. As for other matters or whether they should be concerned about Tezoro, truthfully, Kuro hadn't really been thinking about Tezoro before.
If it weren't for these old pirates wanting to use him to gain fame, he wouldn't have bothered coming at all.
Soon, the Navy located the treasury, and Kuro followed them there.
"Wow, there's so much money!" Kaku stared at the mountainous piles of neatly stacked Beri in the treasury, letting out an amazed exclamation.
He'd never seen such a fortune in his life.
"The gold is in the other vault", the Navy commander in charge of the search saluted.
"I'll skip the gold. Since the higher-ups gave the go-ahead, I'll just take the cash", Kuro said to the Navy officer. "Divide 30 billion and deliver it to my ship. The rest you can handle yourselves."
"Understood!" The officer saluted and began directing the remaining Navy to start transporting the funds to Kuro's ship.
Kuro then headed toward his own ship.
"Did you handle everything?" Zoro asked.
"Do you doubt my work? Take 20 billion back to Headquarters for distribution, and keep the rest", Kuro replied.
The two nodded—they didn't care about this point. This money was just extra anyway.
"As for my share, I'll take 500 million. You two split the other 25 billion."
"Fine, you take half. But you're still an idiot, you know", Kaku nodded.
"25 billion! Say it properly!" Kuro repeated.
"What's the difference?" Kaku asked, puzzled.
Back on the Golden Lion, a group of Navy soldiers carried box after box, delivering the 30 billion Beri to them. Then, ten warships departed under Lucci's command, taking Gran Tesoro's civilians back to Headquarters. These civilians would be repatriated according to their origins, though they'd first return to Headquarters.
After they left, Kuro snapped his fingers. A cloud of dust fell from the sky, landing on the Golden Lion's deck. The dust dispersed, revealing piles of Beri.
"Klah, give them half and take 20 billion from the 30 billion. I won't return to Headquarters. Give Fleet Admiral Sakazuki my regards", Kuro said.
"Hehe, I'll pass on the message. What a profitable trip this was", Kaku chuckled. "Kuro, are you investing in Pegasus Island? Take me in on it."
"What joke? That's my own industry. The land is mine!" Kuro rolled his eyes, white lashes flashing, and refused outright.
Without Gran Tesoro, the world's entertainment industry had lost a major player. His Pegasus Island could climb the rankings in the entertainment sector.
However, its location was in the West Blue. If it were in the Grand Line, it would be much better.
Money left uninvested was as good as nothing.
Kuro now had 35 billion Beri and a significant amount of gold. Everything felt profitable now—even retirement seemed tempting.
He was even considering resigning directly.
But now wasn't the time. With this much money in hand, what if the World Government started watching him? Besides, the higher-ups would never approve his resignation.
Rubbing his chin, Kuro mused, "I should find a place near G-3 to invest in some real estate."
"With Gran Tesoro gone, maybe I can invest here. Still, this seems like a big investment."
Thirty billion was a lot—enough for ordinary people to live comfortably for a lifetime. But for infrastructure, it barely scratched the surface.
What development potential was there on nearby islands?
That icy island? Maybe a ski resort would work...
