Chapter 746: If You Keep This Up, Hermione Will Cry...
Chapter 746: If You Keep This Up, Hermione Will Cry...
Knock, knock, knock...
Just as Ivan was thinking, a soft knocking came from the door of the Training Room.
"Come in!" Ivan immediately came to his senses and spoke up.
In the next moment, the door to the Training Room opened, and Joseph and the others cautiously walked in.
Upon seeing the Dark Wizards sprawled on the floor, their fates uncertain, Joseph's body couldn't help but tremble. He then carefully spoke up.
"Lord Hals... Your mother has something urgent to discuss with you..."
"Alright, I'll be there shortly." Ivan patted the dust off his clothes, replied casually, and then stepped towards the door.
Joseph and the others, well-versed in the routine, began collecting the wands of the fifteen Dark Wizards and assessing the severity of their injuries.
Those with minor injuries were left alone, while the severely wounded were taken to the Infirmary.
After a quick survey, Joseph was somewhat surprised to find that no one had died today...
In previous sessions, there had always been fatalities.
Could it be that Lord Hals had suddenly developed a conscience?
No, that was impossible!
Joseph shook his head. If so, there could only be one explanation—there weren't enough prisoners left to serve as test subjects, so he had to be more cautious and avoid the brutal methods used before.
Relieved by this realization, Joseph let out a sigh. He had been most worried about the prisoners dying in large numbers, which could force them to become the guinea pigs for Lord Hals's magical experiments.
While no one knew what Lord Hals did with the prisoners every day, the injuries and erased memories suggested he was experimenting with some cruel magic.
And why not a battle?
That was a joke. Fifteen Wizards, combined, wouldn't even make a decent warm-up for Lord Hals...
Joseph bent down to lift a severely injured prisoner, feeling a pang of sympathy. For these people, death might be a relief.
Ivan, who had just reached the door, naturally picked up on Joseph's thoughts.
After days of continuous practice, his Legilimency had advanced to level seven, allowing him to read minds without direct eye contact.
However, this wasn't a good thing; it only added to his troubles.
From the feedback he had gathered through mind-reading, his image among his subordinates seemed to grow more terrifying. In many minds, he had already replaced Voldemort as the Dark Lord whose name they dared not speak.
The reason, of course, was related to his recent magical practice.
Every evening, he would order the Aurors to bring the less injured Wizards from the cells to the spacious Training Room. After a few dozen minutes, these Wizards would be carried out, unconscious.
To outsiders, this process was indeed horrifying, but Ivan had done his best. Fighting against multiple Wizards at once, he couldn't hold back, but he avoided using lethal magic.
The prisoners who died during these sessions weren't his fault; most were victims of friendly fire.
For instance, yesterday, one unfortunate soul was hit by a teammate's Blasting Curse and died instantly. Ivan couldn't have saved him even if he wanted to.
"Lord Hals!"
As Ivan walked down a corridor, two Aurors guarding the area bowed respectfully.
Noticing their nervousness, Ivan smiled and nodded at them.
Ivan's sinister smile sent chills down the spines of the two Aurors, causing them to shiver.
They had heard the screams from the Training Room clearly. Unlike other Wizards who were unaware of the truth, they knew that Ivan wasn't practicing magic but engaging in combat with the prisoners.
They concluded that Lord Hals seemed gentle on the surface but was actually cruel, with a severe tendency for abuse and violence, to the point where he couldn't function without a daily dose of violence.
Sensing their thoughts, Ivan's face froze, his smile turning into a grimace.
【So, Lord Hals is indeed as unpredictable as the rumors suggest...】 the two Aurors thought, trembling with fear.
Ivan's forehead veins bulged, and his lips twitched. He forcibly suppressed the urge to draw his wand and beat the two of them. He didn't want any more rumors about his odd behavior to spread tomorrow.
After leaving the basement, Ivan angrily canceled his Legilimency. This Magic was indeed not something to keep active all the time; otherwise, he would eventually be driven to the brink of insanity.
Walking to the living room, Ivan managed to calm his tumultuous emotions. He pushed open the door and saw Asia sitting on the sofa, flipping through a few letters.
"Mom, did you need something from me?" Ivan asked.
"Here, take a look. It's from your little girlfriend! She must have sent it a few days ago. It was in the mailbox at the shop's entrance, and I only noticed it today", Asia said with a teasing smile as she handed the letters to Ivan.
Ivan took the letters with some unease and looked at Asia with a helpless expression. "Why did you have to snoop through my mail?"
Noticing Ivan's resentful look, Asia couldn't help but laugh. She vaguely remembered it had been years since she had seen such an expression on Ivan's face.
"I wasn't snooping on purpose. I just wanted to make sure the letters were safe. The Dark Lord might try some underhanded tricks, tampering with the letters and sending them as if they were from your friends", Asia explained.
Ivan rolled his eyes, not believing a word of it, but he had no choice but to focus on the letters in his hands, pulling out the parchment to read.
To Ivan's relief, Hermione had only mentioned her recent activities and some amusing incidents during her visit to the Black Family.
For example, George and Fred had tried to use Extendable Ears to eavesdrop on an Order of the Phoenix meeting, and she had met a Witch named Tonks who was a Metamorphmagus and could transform at will...
Do you realize how dangerous it is to leak information about the Order of the Phoenix? Does Dumbledore know about this?
Ivan shook his head. Hermione was too careless.
Young witches, though smart, still thought in terms of schoolyard pranks and hadn't fully grasped that they were in the midst of a real Wizarding War!
If this letter were intercepted, it could cause serious problems.
Even now... Ivan glanced at Asia, who was busy taking notes on the key information and names mentioned in the letters, especially marking down Tonks' name.
A Witch who could change her appearance at will could pose significant trouble if used effectively...
"No, mom, you don't need to write that down. I have a list of most of the Wizards in the Order of the Phoenix", Ivan quickly said, snatching the pen and paper from Asia's hands.
If Hermione knew her letters were being used for intelligence analysis, she would probably cry...
