Chapter 744: I Won't Ask for Much—Just Eighty Percent!
Chapter 744: I Won’t Ask for Much—Just Eighty Percent!
Mugen Gekketsu, a technique Kuro had just devised.
Since his ability could use Killing Intent as a medium to induce hallucinations, naturally the same principle applied to sword techniques. By encasing Killing Intent within his blade, he could project illusions.
But for now, these illusions could only reflect the enemy's inner thoughts—he hadn't yet mastered precise manipulation. Still, with more practice, he'd refine it.
Kaku approached and glanced at Giruon's corpses.
The corpses wore faint smiles. Kaku had no idea what amused them—aside from their earlier wounds, he noticed a hairline blood line across Giruon's neck, a testament to Kuro's razor-edged precision.
A single slash so sharp it sliced through the neck without severing it entirely.
What terrifying speed.
"Looks like this is how it ended up."
He surveyed the flattened battlefield and sighed. The surrounding structures had long since collapsed into oblivion. Now only flat ground and the massive crater beside Giruon remained. Gran Tesoro itself had nearly disintegrated.
The Commercial District? Half destroyed by Giruon, the other half repelled and drifting away.
Now only the Vip Area remained.
"Boroboroboro."
Kuro's Transponder Snail rang.
Leisurely lighting a cigar, he took a drag before answering his wrist-mounted device.
"Oh~ Kuro."
A familiar sleazy voice crackled through. "A World Noble died! So scary! What are you doing?"
"Just killed some old pirates. If a World Noble died, go find Tezoro. Why're you bothering me, Gramps?" Kuro grumbled. "Old Man's on his way. This is huge. Kuro—are you ready to explain yourself?"
"Explain? Want me to kill a few more government targets for fun?"
Kuro rolled his eyes. "They're already dead. Let Tezoro handle it—can't run. Those pirates admitted themselves—Tezoro invited them.
"See, the world's so dangerous. I've complained how many times? Those idiots from Mariejois shouldn't come down. These World Nobles? Either become pirates or create chaos. Let one drop down, and bam—terrifying new pirate emerges. Soon after, another Revolutionary Army second-in-command."
This wasn't just about pirates.
One World Noble's mischief births an extreme martial artist. Another creates a Revolutionary Army vice-leader.
"Anyway, let's handle current matters first. We'll report the rest at the World Meeting. If possible, capture Tezoro." Lucius Kro said.
"If he doesn't resist, I'll take him alive. Alright, Gramps—I'm hanging up."
Kuro disconnected, turning to Kaku and Zoro. "The three of us should be enough."
Zoro smirked. "We need to account for this. Tezoro's group alone suffices as evidence."
As she spoke, Kuro shot her a sidelong glance. This woman's Killing Intent wasn't low.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Suddenly, dense cannon fire erupted outside.
The shattered hull let Kuro see clearly—a line of Warships bombarding their direction. Their bombardment targeted both their position and smaller broken ship fragments.
Kuro's eyes narrowed. He raised his hand, summoning sea water to form a barrier. Cannonballs exploded against the water shield, sending up geysers.
Boom! Boom!
On this side, concentrated fire rained down. One shell exploded near Kuro, the shockwave billowing his hooded cloak.
"Who the hell ordered the bombardment!" Kuro scowled at Kaku.
Kaku shook his head. "World Noble orders required confirmation. My command was 'report once here.'"
Same with me", Zoro added. "But they probably won't listen. These Warships originally escorted the Treasury Ship. Their leader is CP's Rob Lucci."
Kuro clicked his tongue. "Get me a Navy line."
Zoro tossed him a communicator. It connected to a Vice Admiral commanding ten Warships.
Kuro dialed directly. As soon as the call connected, he roared: "This is Vice Admiral Kuro! Who authorized the bombardment?! Did we approve that?! That's where civilians gathered! Old Man worked hard to gather them—not as target practice! Are you insane?! No respect for Old Man?!"
"Kuro, Vice Admiral", the trembling voice replied.
"The bombardment order came from Rob Lucci."
"It's me."
The Transponder Snail flickered, revealing Lucci's cold face.
"World Noble dead, murderer unknown. Government's order is total elimination. Vice Admiral Kuro—this is protocol."
"Old Man be damned! Cease bombardment on that civilian cluster! Besides civilians, we have thousands of Navy there! Whoever you are, Vice Admiral—order all Warships to stop firing there. It's not a Pacifista!"
If ten Warships reported to just a Vice Admiral, their command structure would include five Commanders directing two ships each, with each vessel having a subordinate commander.
"What? Why not peer-level authority?"
Lucci's voice chilled. "You defy government orders, Lucius Kro."
"I'm executing the mission! The culprit's trapped here. Stop the reckless shelling. If you can't handle it, come yourself. Find the World Noble's corpse while you're at it. If there's anything left of it."
"I'll report this upward!"
"Whatever."
Kuro disconnected, facing the Vip Area.
"Let's go. Tezoro still has men. To appease the World Government, they must die here." Kuro said.
"Exactly." Zoro grinned, striding forward.
"Hey, Kuro—how to split the spoils?"
Kaku nudged Kuro, whispering, "Heard Tezoro has 500 billion Beri and heaps of gold."
Zoro's ear twitched. Lida watched eagerly.
Five hundred billion!
Before, they couldn't touch Tezoro due to protocol. Now? The money was fair game.
"Five hundred billion..." Kuro exhaled smoke. "Headquarters isn't stupid—they'll want their share. We can't take much."
"Still a fortune!" Kaku chuckled. "A few billion's nothing."
"Since I started this, I'll take the lion's share. Tezoro even complained about me to Headquarters before. I won't ask for much—eight thousand! No, wait—eighty percent!" Kuro declared.
Zoro turned. "You pirate more than pirates! Too greedy, Kuro. We helped. If you take the most, 40% should suffice."
"Joke's on you! I killed those chaos-creating old pirates. I issued the search order. My subordinates eat and drink on my dime. Rebuilding Pegasus Island costs. Without Gran Tesoro's golden city, I'll develop the entertainment industry—keep civilians occupied. 70%!"
"45%, and I'll cover many calls for you", Kaku countered. "Zoro and I split the remaining 55%."
"65%! My territory's huge. G-3 must guard against New World pirates!" Kuro argued.
"50%—we'll handle Headquarters' share", Zoro offered. "That portion we'll cover."
"60%—my final offer. Switch places with me? You take G-3, I'll take your base." Kuro shrugged.
"Headquarters won't allow", Kaku chuckled. "50%, Kuro. We share responsibility."
"Fine. Since we're comrades—50% Beri. But give me all the gold."
"Deal." Kaku and Zoro nodded.
Kuro's secret bottom line was 40%—after all, this windfall had no shame in taking.
As for whether the money truly belonged to them? Irrelevant.
Tezoro, stripped of his legal protections, was now a lamb awaiting slaughter.
