Chapter 742: Pay the Price for Your Foolish Provocations!
Chapter 742: Pay the Price for Your Foolish Provocations!
In the darkening sky, a bright moon shone, casting a silvery glow over the land. But upon closer inspection, that moon seemed tinged with a hint of sinister blood, as if foretelling that this night would not pass peacefully.
Within the Phantom Lord guild hall, the lights blazed brightly as a large group of mages, not only from Phantom Lord but also from two other guilds, Raven Tail and Blood Stripe, gathered. Their respective guild marks set them apart.
Compared to Phantom Lord, these two guilds were less renowned and a notch weaker in overall strength. However, combined, they posed a force comparable to that of Phantom Lord.
"Do you think the mages from Fairy Tail will really attack?" one of the mages asked, his chin tilted upward.
Sol, one of the Four Elements, stroked his beard and chuckled. "No, no, no! Don't worry. Gajil's actions will surely incense them. As long as they tear up the peace treaty and take the first strike against us, our counter-attack will be entirely justified."
"As long as your people do their part, luring the mages from Fairy Tail here, we can then reinforce you under the pretext of aiding our allies," added a mage from Raven Tail, rubbing his hands together eagerly. "This time, we'll teach Fairy Tail a lesson they won't forget and knock them down a peg. After that, I'm sure we'll all be rolling in commissions."
The numerous mages of Phantom Lord's Dominators, filling the guild hall, murmured in anticipation, their eyes gleaming with battle intent. They had been feasting and were now rested and ready.
As night deepened, the sky became shrouded in dark clouds, obscuring the moon and plunging the land into darkness. Amid this darkness, a beam of light suddenly appeared, a white banner of light bearing the emblem of the Fairy Tail guild.
Leading the way was none other than the third-generation master of Fairy Tail, Makarov!
Close behind him were Laxus, with an unfriendly expression, and Mystogan, wearing a mask. To their sides were Erza, clad in armor, and Mira, dressed for battle.
With Gildarts absent and Fengye remaining to guard the guild, four of Fairy Tail's S-class mages had assembled to declare war on Phantom Lord!
"It's Fairy Tail!"
"They're here!"
Mages from Phantom Lord, keeping a constant watch, spotted Makarov and his companions marching toward them with killing intent. They immediately alerted the rest of the guild.
The large number of mages lounging and resting in the hall sprang to their feet at the commotion, their eyes alight with eagerness for the impending battle.
"They're finally here," one said.
"They sure took their time," another added.
"Ah, my heart weeps," lamented Aria of the Four Elements, tears streaming down her face as her body pulsed with surging magic power. "For today, a powerful guild will fall."
The guild masters of Black Crow and Blood-red Banner, the two other mage guilds, also gave their orders, following closely behind Jose as they all strode out through the front entrance. The numerous mages behind them filed out one after another.
In the open space directly in front of the Phantom Lord guild, a sea of Fairy Tail mages could be seen approaching. Their eyes held cold, piercing gazes, and their faces were twisted in anger as they channeled their magic or brandished various weapons.
Makarov, upon seeing the members of Phantom Lord emerge, halted his steps and raised his left hand to signal those behind him to stop as well. Mystogan, Erza, and the others promptly complied.
Swoosh!!!
The mages from the three allied guilds quickly arranged themselves in formation in front of their guild. Standing at the very front were the guild masters, with Jose in the center and slightly ahead of the other two.
He looked at Makarov and said with a slight tilt of his head, "It's been a long time, Guild Master Makarov. It must have been a few years, and I do feel a bit nostalgic."
"Enough with the small talk," Makarov replied coldly as he glared at Jose. "There's a limit to sending people to provoke us. What do you mean by targeting the children of my guild?! Jose!"
Jose spread his hands innocently and said, "Me? I don't recall giving any such orders. It was probably just a challenge between mages. So, because of a squabble between kids, you want to start a war with us, Phantom Lord?"
Makarov shot Jose a glance but did not respond. Instead, he turned to the other two guild masters and asked in a deep voice, "And you two are involved as well?"
The guild masters of Black Crow and Blood-red Banner exchanged a glance before calmly meeting Makarov's gaze. "No," they replied. "We just happened to be visiting Phantom Lord. We have no interest in participating in any wars. However, if you insist on breaking the Council's rules and initiating a guild war, then we have no choice but to assist Phantom Lord in stopping you."
"I see..."
Makarov lowered his head slightly.
Silence fell.
His body began to swell and grow, accompanied by a surge of magic power befitting one of the Ten Wizard Saints. He transformed into a giant bathed in a soft golden light, his eyes radiating an enchanting magical glow as he stared at Jose and the others in front of him.
"Then there's no need for further words," Makarov declared. "You dare to lay a hand on my children. Don't think that human laws will protect you! Pay the price for your foolish provocations!!"
As his words rang out...
Makarov threw a powerful punch, slamming it into the ground in front of him.
With a terrifying and overwhelming burst of magic power, the giant's force shook the earth, causing the entire land to tremble and roar. The ground directly in front of his fist shattered, cracks spreading towards the Phantom Lord guild.
As Makarov made his bold move, the Fairy Tail mages behind him could no longer hold back. They roared and charged forward, their various magics soaring into the sky. In an instant, the curtain rose on this guild battle!
