Chapter 742: Hayden Sun's Betrayal
Chapter 742: Hayden Sun's Betrayal
While Su Yu was still basking in the joy of his massive 78.9 billion Psychic Coin haul, he was unaware that a major event was unfolding on the planet Skul.
In the heart of Skul, at the Sun Empire's palace, Intelligence Minister Seon received permission at the palace gates and immediately flew toward the Emperor's study.
Guards along the palace corridors paused to salute Seon as they saw him flying through the sky. They all sensed that something significant was about to happen, given Seon's unusually stern expression.
Seon was known for his stoic demeanor, rarely showing any emotion on his face. However, today's serious expression left no doubt that something major was afoot.
"Look, Minister Seon seems quite serious," the guards whispered among themselves.
"Indeed, the last time he looked this serious was when... uh, never mind."
The guard had almost mentioned the day the Emperor was... but he caught himself in time.
"Keep an eye on the network over the next couple of days; something big is coming."
...
Seon, flying through the air, paid no attention to the guards' whispers. He reached the Emperor Manina's study without any hindrance.
Manina was currently reviewing a document. This document, presented by Lance's aide Jenevieve, contained detailed information about the Evolution game. He was growing increasingly concerned about the Blue Star as an adversary.
Seon entered the study and immediately knelt before Manina. "Your Majesty, your radiance will illuminate all of Skul."
"Oh, it's you, Seon." Manina put down the document, interlaced his fingers, and leaned back. "What brings you here?"
"Your Majesty, two significant events have occurred simultaneously," Seon replied, his face grim. "One is good, the other bad."
"Hmm... Let's hear the good news first."
"Your Majesty, the good news is that your son, our pride, Prince Morgen Sun, has sent a reply."
Seon opened his spatial ring and extracted a parchment. With a flick of his finger, the parchment flew out like an arrow, stopping in mid-air before Manina.
He continued, "Prince Morgen's letter confirms that after thorough investigation, no dragon from the Holy Dragon Star has visited our sector in the past century. This is true, as Skul is in the third spiral arm of the Milky Way, while the Holy Dragon Star is in the first. The distance is too vast for any dragon to have made the journey."
Reading the letter, Manina was overjoyed: "Ha! Excellent! I knew that little black dragon wasn't from the Holy Dragon Star. Now we have proof!"
"Seon, contact the Dragon Emperor. We are about to make a big move!"
Manina was now extremely excited. If the black dragon wasn't from the Holy Dragon Star, it must be from the Blue Star.
If the Blue Star humans reached Skul and first visited Dragon Island to meet Princess White Dragon Coco, it meant Princess Coco, or even Queen White Dragon, must be in league with the Blue Star humans.
This was their chance to root out the traitors!
...
But Seon remained kneeling, unmoving.
He continued in a grave tone, "Your Majesty, there's another piece of bad news. I believe this one should be our top priority."
"Oh, there's another one? What is it?" Manina turned to him.
"The bad news comes from Duke Haiden of the Sunlit Duchy..." Xion paused here, letting the weight of his words sink in.
After a three-second pause, he continued, "He's turned against us."
"What did you say?" Manina's pupils rapidly constricted. "How has he turned? In what way?"
"Your Majesty, it's regarding the Blue Star." Xion kept his head low, not daring to breathe heavily. "Just a few minutes ago, Duke Haiden posted a video on social media.
"In the video, he strongly condemns our propaganda about the 'cruel and abusive treatment of Blue Star captives' as false. In reality, the Blue Star people do not mistreat their captives; they treat each captive with great respect."
With the emperor's nod of approval, Xion handed over a video from his phone to the palace's AI system, which then projected it onto the wall of the study.
Duke Haiden's familiar face appeared on the wall.
...
It seemed the video was filmed in Haiden's home. He spoke with a serious expression:
"Everyone watching this video, today I must clarify the matter of whether captives on Blue Star are mistreated.
"Initially, I didn't want to speak about this, as it aligns with the interests of the United Government.
"However, I've seen too many instances of defaming the captured soldiers recently. In the spirit of truth, I've decided to reveal the facts..."
For the next several minutes, Duke Haiden detailed his experiences on Blue Star.
The Blue Star people treated captives well, with no instances of mistreatment. They provided excellent living conditions and recreational facilities to all captured Skrull, regardless of their rank.
The captive camps even held various competitions, with rewards being high-level cultivation techniques that ordinary Skrulls could only dream of.
In the video, Duke Haiden included various photos and clips taken in the captive camp as evidence.
At the end of the video, he said, "Some might say—this isn't what the United Government's propaganda claimed. They said the Blue Star people were ruthless, and many soldiers returned with severe injuries and covered in blood.
"I can responsibly tell everyone, all of that is false! It's all false propaganda from the United Government!
"I can see that the Blue Star people truly don't want to fight us, just as we don't want to fight the Silver Saint race.
"They don't mistreat captives, probably to encourage more Skrulls to support the cause of peace.
"That's all I have to say..."
The video abruptly ended there.
The AI system, noticing the emperor's increasingly grim expression and the lack of further content, stopped the playback.
Manina's face was as dark as the bottom of a pot.
Bang!
He slammed his hand on the table in anger.
The originally sturdy alloy desk was shattered into two pieces by his blow, with the central part completely shattered.
"Damn it, what the hell is he saying!" Manina roared.
He wished he could fly to Duke Haiden right now and tear him to shreds.
Xion remained prostrated on the floor, his face pressed to the ground, not daring to move.
