Chapter 741: The Core Region
Chapter 741: The Core Region
A thick white fog obscured the surroundings, limiting visibility.
However, Lindsey activated her map skill, effortlessly discerning the terrain beneath her feet, making her journey as easy as walking on flat ground.
"The location is fine. I'm standing on a floating island," she said.
"But the marker..."
Lindsey cautiously made her way forward.
She maintained a straight path, walking to the edge of the island and then turning clockwise towards the south.
After several minutes, Lindsey attempted to find any signs of life on the island.
Unfortunately, she was disappointed.
After walking for over ten kilometers, the right side of the island still showed no traces of any living beings, and no markers appeared on her map.
"An uninhabited island?" Lindsey furrowed her brows slightly, thinking aloud as she continued walking, "It makes sense that there's no one here."
"An island that can sustain life solely through breathing—if discovered, it would likely be occupied and developed into a base. With an increasing population, the dense fog would eventually be depleted, unlike what I'm witnessing now."
Lindsey took each step carefully, her feet sinking into the muddy ground.
Finally, in the southwestern corner of the island, she stumbled upon something unusual—a bridge extending outward from the floating island.
"A natural sky bridge formed under the influence of the world's laws," she observed.
Lindsey crouched down to examine it closely, "There are no signs of breakage or natural repair, not even a single footprint."
Puzzled, Lindsey opened her map and took one last look.
Within her scouting range, the island still revealed nothing of interest. Satisfied that there was nothing there, Lindsey stepped onto the sky bridge ahead.
Questions arose as she did so.
"Something's off."
"But this was once a satellite world of the City of Law."
"Bridges connect the floating islands. If the Awakened put in some effort and time, there's no reason for them to miss a place like this."
With these thoughts, Lindsey paused for a moment.
Suddenly, she turned back and reached out to touch the air, causing the white fog in front of her to thin slightly.
At the same time, a Nourishing Fog appeared in Lindsey's Artisan Sack.
The advantage of the Artisan Sack lay in its ability to store an infinite number of the same item, limited only by Lindsey's carrying capacity. Tearing off a large pile of Nourishing Fog, Lindsey returned to the sky bridge and continued her exploration.
Not long after stepping onto the bridge, the thick fog behind her gradually dissipated.
The scene before Lindsey transformed into a dark shade cast by the starry night sky.
But beneath the stars, a massive shadow loomed ahead.
For a fleeting moment, Lindsey thought she had encountered the stone pillar island surrounding the Middle Ring World.
However, when she looked to her left and right, she realized this stone pillar stood alone, with no other objects in sight.
Lindsey slowed her pace.
Though she hadn't reached the front yet, a hypothesis had already formed in her mind.
"A stone pillar, but not one that delineates the boundaries of the world."
"Its function is to guide resources, accumulating them on the floating island. I must be joking... Did I drink a potion and teleport straight to the center of the world?"
Lindsey wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry.
She continued forward.
As she walked on the sky bridge, the stone pillar ahead grew thicker and taller, so much so that she couldn't see its peak even when she looked up.
Lindsey's gaze pierced through the darkness, revealing what lay at the end of the sky bridge.
There was no path ahead.
The bridge didn't connect to any other floating island.
The pillar stood tall in the air, with sky bridges surrounding it, connecting to the pillar's surface.
The situation was evident.
The existence of these bridges was solely due to the evolution of the world's rules.
The pillar itself was not designed for human settlement and thus lacked proper pathways for people to traverse.
"..."
"......."
Gazing at the scene before him, Lindsey scratched his scalp and then his chin.
"Since we're here, we might as well take a look at this thing, right?"
Lindsey continued forward.
As he drew closer, the details of the pillar's surface became crystal clear.
The material of this object resembled both mica and tourmaline. It was translucent but not entirely transparent, and within, one could vaguely discern golden stripes.
"Indeed, it's the Law Text."
Lindsey's thoughts wandered.
He switched modules to examine the specific attributes of the pillar before him.
【Guidance Pillar (Core) - In a shattered world, resources cannot be preserved. Countless pillars, created by the Righteous One, protect the material from dispersing into the void, keeping it concentrated on the floating island. This pillar serves as the world's core foundation and the anchor point that prevents the world from falling into the void.】
"The world's core foundation and the anchor point in spatial terms."
Lindsey read the introduction, then looked up at the pillar as if it pierced through the entire world.
A sense of awe emerged.
Throughout his adventures, Lindsey had encountered various wonders, including the Garden System capable of manipulating the world and the unique gem that nurtured it.
But the pillar before him was entirely different.
Concerning the very existence of a world, in every sense of the word, Lindsey had never encountered such a core element.
"This thing... I can't just chip off a piece."
Lindsey decisively abandoned his greed.
Knowing what he could and couldn't take, he circled the pillar, crossing the bridges to explore other floating islands.
Hours passed.
After circling the surrounding islands, Lindsey returned empty-handed.
The situation was baffling.
This also explained why he hadn't seen any traces of others on the islands before.
The nearby islands were only connected to the central, massive pillar and had no further connections to any other islands.
The structure of these floating islands resembled a wheel laid flat in the air.
They operated independently, disconnected from the outside world. Unless one could fly, there was no entering or leaving! This situation stirred up Lindsey's childhood memories.
"..."
"The last time, Alvite said she would send me to an absolutely safe place and then threw me to the edge of the universe. This time, the Random Teleportation Potion also claimed it was a safe place, but it brought me to this isolated spot."
"It is indeed safe."
"But am I naturally incompatible with the word 'safe'?"
Lindsey sighed deeply.
Flight was currently his weakness, so he opened his friends list and sought information from a local resident of the City of Law.
Lindsey: 【Alice, I'm in a bit of a predicament here. Can I ask you something?】
Alice: 【Trouble? Did you encounter an enemy?】
Lindsey: 【No enemies, but I'm trapped.】
Alice: 【Trapped?... Lindsey, hold on a bit.】
Lindsey: 【Wait a moment... Alice! How's it going over there?】
Alice: 【...】
Alice: 【I'll get back to you after dealing with this guy.】
