Chapter 741: The Battle Commences and the Awakening
Chapter 741: The Battle Commences and the Awakening
In Magnolia Park, a large crowd had gathered, consisting of mages from the Fairy Tail guild. Erza, Mira, and the others were all present, assembled before a towering tree.
Their gazes were fixed upward, their expressions somber and tense, as if the air between them was heavy with the unspoken threat of smoldering explosives, ready to ignite at any moment.
Erza remained silent, her eyes smoldering with fury.
Mira, too, wore a frosty countenance.
Just then, the sound of a walking stick tapping the ground approached, and the crowd parted to make way for Makarov, who strode forward, leaning on his staff.
He glanced up at Jet and Droy, who were hanging from the tree, then slowly lowered his head, raising his left hand to cover his face, his fingers and body tense.
After a brief moment of trembling...
He spoke in a subdued, strained voice, "I could tolerate them vandalizing our guild, but to lay a hand on the children of my guild... as a parent, I cannot abide that."
Crack!!!
As his words landed, Makarov clenched his fist, crushing the wooden staff in his hand into countless splinters.
He abruptly lifted his head, his eyes blazing with fury. Though his stature was diminutive, he seemed to embody a towering inferno of rage.
"Let the battle begin!"
With Makarov's declaration, Natsu and the others, already seething with anger, could no longer contain themselves, unleashing a chorus of furious roars that echoed skyward.
Makarov turned to Feng Ye and said, "Feng Ye, you and Lucy stay here at the guild to look after the wounded and the children. I'll lead the rest myself this time!"
Hearing Makarov's words, Feng Ye was slightly taken aback but didn't mind. Whether he went or stayed made little difference, as his clairvoyant vision allowed him to see and move across the world with ease.
"Just a moment."
After a brief moment of contemplation, Feng Ye closed his eyes, then reopened them, a faint golden gleam dancing in his irises. Visions of the future flashed before his eyes.
A slight smile curved his lips as he found these future scenes intriguing, and he ceased his divination, turning to Makarov and saying, "This battle won't be straightforward. I'll call Laxus and Mystogan over to join us."
As his words fell...
Feng Ye didn't wait for Makarov's response. He reached out, his hand extending into the void, and with a casual tug, he ripped through the fabric of space, pulling two figures through.
Falling from the torn spaces were Laxus and Mystogan, the latter's continued presence in this world owed to Feng Ye's intervention.
"Feng Ye?"
Mystogan stumbled as he landed but quickly regained his footing. Seeing Feng Ye, he wasn't overly surprised, knowing that only Feng Ye could have transported him across countries with spatial magic. Thus, his gaze turned grave, and he asked, "What's happened?"
If nothing was amiss, Mystogan reasoned, Feng Ye wouldn't have gone through the trouble of bringing him over such a distance.
Feng Ye replied calmly, "A few guilds have joined forces and overstepped their bounds. We're going to hold them accountable. You two will come with us."
Laxus furrowed his brow but, after a moment of locking eyes with Feng Ye, redirected his annoyance elsewhere, asking, "What's going on?"
Macao, standing nearby, quickly filled him in on the recent events.
Hearing about the destruction of their guild by the hands of Phantom Lord and the subsequent night raid, Laxus's brow remained furrowed, a spark of anger flashing in his eyes.
Though he didn't hold the rest in high regard—in his eyes, they were too weak, and the guild's atmosphere and style were lacking—being provoked by such underhanded tactics from another guild, and then being abruptly yanked across distances by Feng Ye, stirred a cauldron of anger within him.
"Phantom Lord, eh? Excellent..."
Laxus let out a cold snort, his eyes narrowing as he glanced at Makarov. "Looks like you're finally serious about taking action, old man."
Makarov had always struggled to keep Laxus, his grandson, in check, but at this juncture, he had more pressing matters on his mind. With a stoic expression, he said, "Let's go, Laxus."
And with that, he strode forward with purpose.
Back at the guild, four mages remained: Feng Ye, Lucy, Levy, and Wendy. Lucy was a newcomer, Levy had just endured an attack, and Wendy's gentle nature and healing magic made her better suited for support. Thus, Makarov had chosen for them to stay behind with Feng Ye.
With Feng Ye staying behind, Makarov could rest easy.
After all, Makarov was well aware that Feng Ye's strength was no weaker than his own.
Wendy stood beside Jet and Droy, her small hands emitting a verdant green healing magic that mended their wounds.
After a while, she turned to Feng Ye, a hint of hesitation in her voice as she said, "Brother Feng Ye, my healing magic still needs some work..."
Feng Ye offered a warm smile and said, "You still have room to grow."
As he spoke, he gently flicked his finger, sending a green orb of light floating through the air. It split into two and descended upon Jet and Droy, rapidly healing their injuries.
Witnessing this, Levy called out, "Jet? Droy?"
"Don't call out to them," Feng Ye said, gently patting Levy's shoulder. "I added a bit of sleeping magic to let them rest."
Levy nodded and averted her gaze.
Lucy stood by, gazing out the guild's window, her lips pressed together as she said, "Phantom Lord has gone too far, doing something like this..."
Wendy also looked out the window, a hint of worry in her large eyes. She walked over to Feng Ye and asked, "Will the guild master and the others be in danger?"
"Have faith in the guild master's strength," Feng Ye replied.
Levy turned to Wendy and assured her, "Guild Master Makarov is one of the Ten Wizard Saints, and we also have Erza and Laxus with us. There are four S-class mages on our side."
Lucy exhaled slowly and agreed, "Yeah, I can't imagine anyone beating them."
"No," Feng Ye shook his head slightly as he, too, looked out the window, his gaze sweeping across the distance. "This battle will indeed be challenging. We're up against three guilds."
Lucy, Levy, and Wendy were all taken aback, and Lucy exclaimed, "Th-three?! But I thought it was just Phantom Lord?"
"Phantom Lord has joined forces with two other guilds," Feng Ye explained. "Otherwise, they wouldn't dare provoke Fairy Tail so brazenly. But those two guilds aren't the real problem. What we need to watch out for is a certain mage who doesn't belong to any of these three guilds."
Feng Ye's eyes narrowed as he spoke.
Serena, the Celestial Spirit Mage! Without Acnologia, he was the strongest mage on the continent, far surpassing the likes of Walrod. In the original storyline, he became one of the Spriggan 12, the elite guards of the Alvarez Empire, just like the guild master of the Dark Guild Tartaros.
As it stood, Fairy Tail had no chance against Serena unless they could unleash the 'First Magic' or have the Fire Dragon King, Igneel, intervene on their behalf. Not even Makarov could stand against Serena alone.
In fact, Feng Ye was curious to see if Fairy Tail could harness the power of the 'First Magic' in the face of this crisis. It was a rare opportunity, as the entire guild was united against an overwhelmingly powerful foe, which increased their chances of success.
"If they can't do it," Feng Ye mused, "then I'll have to step in myself... No, it would be embarrassing for me to have to save the day from just one Serena. Hmm... Maybe I should wake up Acnologia instead."
Feng Ye pondered for a moment before snapping his fingers lightly.
Snap!
A thousand miles away, within the palace of the Phoenix Heart guild.
A glowing orb hovered in the air, containing two naked girls curled up together, their eyes closed in slumber.
At the sound of Feng Ye's snapped finger, one of the girls' eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes.
Acnologia's eyes first showed a hint of confusion before widening in realization as she received Feng Ye's message, waking her up and conveying his instructions.
She glanced at the still-sleeping Mebis, then gently backed away, floating out of the orb without disturbing her.
She landed silently, and fiery flames swirled around her, forming a phoenix-like priestess outfit that she donned. Turning towards the palace entrance, she strode forward and quietly left the palace.
Left behind in the palace was a dimly glowing orb and the sleeping form of Mebis.
