Chapter 740: The Confrontation
Chapter 740: The Confrontation
Heros noticed that the creatures were larger versions of the exploding monkeys from earlier, and there were significantly more of them, all heading straight for him.
Xu Chan, who had shed his clothes moments ago, suddenly appeared in front of him with a faint glow on his fist, ready to strike.
Xu Chan was well aware that even though these winged monkeys posed a threat to Heros, it was impossible for them to take down this man alone. However, with Xu Chan distracting them, it was a different story.
Xu Chan had already applied the odor-blocking elixir to his body, and these monkeys were intelligent enough to recognize that he was also targeting their common enemy. As a result, they didn't attack him.
As Xu Chan struck out with his fist, he realized that despite being the one to initiate the attack, Heros' punch was astonishingly fast. Heros' fist reached him first, and even from a distance, Xu Chan felt a surge of pressure.
Xu Chan quickly assessed the situation, considering Heros' height and arm length. He adjusted his waist and back slightly to meet Heros' punch.
Their fists collided in mid-air, the faint glow on their knuckles merging and dissipating. It was evident that Heros' fist still retained some of its glow, and as they were about to make contact, Xu Chan felt a sense of pressure.
From the force of the impact, Xu Chan could tell that Heros possessed an incredibly resilient body, with immense strength beneath it. Heros' psychic power was also thicker than his, and in this situation, Xu Chan knew better than to engage in a direct confrontation.
However, in a life-or-death battle, it was crucial to utilize one's strengths and avoid one's weaknesses. The outcome depended on the practical application of skills, and the stronger-looking opponent didn't always win.
Heros, seeing Xu Chan dodge, twisted his tall body and raised one hand to protect his face. With the other hand, he followed through with the remaining force of his punch, slamming it down like a giant hammer.
Xu Chan took a quick breath and increased his speed, moving with Heros' twisting body. He managed to reach Heros' side and delivered a punch to his ribs, causing a wave of energy to ripple across his fist. Heros quickly sank his elbow to block the attack, then felt a punch pressing against his face. He immediately leaned back, retreating swiftly from Xu Chan's shadow.
Heros quickly followed up with a series of punches, each strike accompanied by a thunderous boom that shook the surrounding rocks and water. Xu Chan dodged left and right, ducking and weaving, avoiding every attack without once making contact with Heros.
As the distance between them widened for a moment, Xu Chan seized the opportunity and pushed forward. A loud bang echoed as their forces clashed in mid-air, and Xu Chan took advantage of the shockwave to rip open a spatial rift.
Just as Heros was about to launch another attack, a strange cry rang out from above, and a dark shadow plummeted towards him. Without even looking, Heros grabbed it and flung it to the ground, smashing it into a bloody mess. Feathers filled the air, but this action disrupted his offensive rhythm.
Xu Chan had retreated to a safe distance and drew a slender, flexible longsword from his waist with a swift motion. With a shake, the long blade curved, and he pointed it towards Heros' neck, a faint light flashing at the tip.
Heros had a short sword at his waist, but he didn't seem inclined to use it. Instead, he raised his arm to block the sword, and a glow appeared on his forearm where it met the sword's tip. The two lights merged and vanished, and as they touched, Heros' arm jerked, and the resilient longsword was repelled.
To Heros' surprise, the tip of the sword was highly concentrated with heart power, and the force penetrated inward, affecting even the altered tissue that was under tension. Heros' arm went numb, as if temporarily paralyzed.
Heros looked at Xu Chan with surprise, realizing that Xu Chan had managed to infuse his psychic power into the weapon with great subtlety. This level of control over psychic power was only possible for someone with an abundant supply of it, and Xu Chan clearly possessed this skill.
Heros, standing tall, said, "It seems I must adjust my evaluation of you, Mr. Xu. But this is not a fair fight, and you are destined to fail."
Xu Chan realized that even his slender sword couldn't penetrate Heros' limbs, and understood that this opponent was incredibly tough. Perhaps with the help of the medicine, he might have had a chance, but he had already used it to lure the baby monkeys.
Xu Chan assessed that even with the medicine, his strength would only match Heros' current level, and he couldn't overpower him. Especially since Heros' command over psychic power was undeniably deeper and heavier.
Moreover, Xu Chan's experience told him that Heros might not have even unleashed his true power yet. With the addition of the ferocious monkeys, their chances of victory were slim. It would be better to find an opportunity to retreat.
When Xu Chan had seen the relic in the guide's hands earlier, he had guessed that it was likely given to him by his teammates, and he understood the possible intention behind it. However, he couldn't rely solely on the enemy's internal conflict. If an opportunity arose, he would definitely try.
Furthermore, he had captured the baby winged monkey, and if he didn't use it to distract Heros, he would have to face the consequences himself. The situation had reached a critical point, and he had no choice but to act.
Now that he had discovered this path was blocked, he certainly wouldn't stubbornly persist here. With a swift motion, he seemed to sheath his sword at his waist, then turned and sprinted forward, instantly creating some distance.
Heros, seeing his retreat, immediately gave chase. But as he took his first step, more winged monkeys arrived, their eyes bloodshot and fixated on him. Some circled above, screeching, while others leaped towards him.
The moment they landed on him, they were crushed by his force, then slid off. Still, an endless stream of winged monkeys rushed forward, learning from the fate of their peers. Instead of clinging, they used their flight momentum to tear at him with claws and teeth, focusing primarily on his face.
Heros had tried to strike with his psychic power earlier, but it had no effect. It was as if his power dissipated or vanished upon impact.
Left with no choice, he resorted to physical attacks. With a wave of his hand, he seemed to tear through the air, ripping the creatures apart. Where his hand passed, the creatures were shredded, their flesh and blood pulverized. Yet, the winged monkeys fearlessly charged, hindering his movements, their shrill cries assaulting his senses.
After tearing apart several more, he glanced up, studying their flight path, the distance, and the position of each strike. He quickly identified a gap in their formation and, in the next instant, his body swayed, and he darted through the intersecting gaps, bursting through the encirclement and closing in on Xu Chan's back.
But just as he took that first powerful step, Xu Chan, still running, suddenly spun around. His longsword unsheathed with a swish, its tip emitting a sharp sound as it sliced through the air towards Heros' face.
Heros, seeing a faint glow on the sword tip, focused his gaze ahead. Without time to block, he ducked his head, and a light flashed across his forehead, colliding with the sword tip. The glow on the sword vanished, and the subsequent heart power, combined with his psychic power, dissipated, leaving his body's momentum largely unaffected. After two more steps, he reached Xu Chan's front, clenching his fist and delivering a powerful punch. The air ahead of him seemed to explode.
Xu Chan, seeing Heros within the longsword's inner circle, released his grip, calmly extending his palm to meet Heros' fist. The glow on his palm swiftly dissipated, and as their heart powers clashed, the sound of breaking bones and flesh tearing filled the air, accompanied by a spray of blood.
Heros' other hand struck out, emitting a similar glow, but Xu Chan, though injured, remained composed. He swiftly countered, blocking Heros' punch with his other hand.
As the glow between their fists dissipated, Xu Chan's psychic power proved stronger, causing Heros' punch to falter. The impact shook Heros' arm, eliciting a series of cracking sounds.
The clash between them unleashed a wave of energy, pushing both back.
Heros was taken aback. He had distributed his psychic power evenly between his hands, but Xu Chan had cleverly allocated his power, weaker in the front and stronger in the rear, managing to injure Heros despite his apparent disadvantage.
It had been a long time since Heros had encountered an opponent who, despite apparent inferior strength, could hold their own in combat.
The more such opponents he faced, the more he realized he couldn't afford to let them go, as they could cause unforeseen troubles later. With just a few more minutes of entanglement, his team would arrive, ensuring the capture of the opponent.
Just as Heros was about to make his move, he sensed a danger. He reached out, and a wooden spear appeared in his hand, breaking into several pieces with a loud bang as he grabbed it. In that brief moment, he almost failed to grasp the spear.
Heros looked up, surprised by the force he had just encountered. Above him, a wide-winged bird appeared, with a figure perched on its back. The figure flipped, performed a somersault, and landed gracefully, stirring up a cloud of dust.
As the figure straightened, it revealed a broad-shouldered, slim-waisted individual with sharp eyebrows. Dressed in a sleeveless training suit, their arms showcased well-defined muscles, and their skin radiated a vibrant life force. While they appeared shorter than Heros, their aura was formidable, and he sensed a distinct danger from them.
Qi Qianyang glanced at Xu Chan and then fixed his gaze on Heros. Finally, he looked at the relic in Heros' hand and said, "It seems I arrived just in time. The relic is here."
Before Heros could react, Qi Qianyang suddenly appeared before him. Their eyes met, and Heros felt his pupils constrict under Qi Qianyang's intense stare. With a slight curve of his lips, Qi Qianyang unleashed a powerful blow, sending Heros flying straight back into a pile of rocks, raising a cloud of dust.
Qi Qianyang now held the spherical relic in his hand, deftly tossing it up and down in his palm.
