Chapter 74: The Third Kazekage Disappears
Chapter 74: The Third Kazekage Disappears
"Special training during the holidays? It's finally here," Obito sighed, as if already anticipating the grim fate that awaited him for the next month and a half.
At least during school days, there were five days of classes to act as a buffer. Now, with an extended vacation, every day felt like a weekend.
Obito merely hoped that the combat training would revert to its previous format; otherwise, with over two hundred additional problems to solve each day, his life would be over by the time the holidays ended.
Hearing the word "special training," Might Guy's eyes lit up. But then he remembered the extra questions during the weekends, and he felt a tremendous weight on his shoulders.
Kakashi, on the other hand, remained expressionless. Unlike Guy and Obito, he had already mastered the Shadow Clone technique and had his clones attend classes for him.
Except for exams, Kakashi spent most of his time training with Mu Yue.
So, even if Mu Yue said they would be training every day during the holidays just like on weekends, it wouldn't make much difference to his usual routine.
"We'll rest on Thursdays and Sundays. The rest of the time, come to me for training in the mornings and afternoons. You can go home for lunch, or I can prepare meals here if you prefer," Mu Yue explained.
Although they had been coming to Mu Yue's place every day during school, they only trained for a short while on weekdays—from Monday to Friday—compared to the full days on weekends.
So, even with a schedule of five days of training and two days of rest during the holidays, the actual training time would still be significantly more than before.
"Two days off per week!" Obito exclaimed in delight.
He did the calculations and realized that this arrangement seemed even more relaxed than their regular school days.
Usually, from Monday to Friday, they had classes and then trained with Mu Yue, and only on weekends did they devote the entire day to training.
"Also, we'll be pausing the combat practice for now. Obito, you'll continue working on transforming your chakra nature to suit fire-style jutsu. Kakashi, Guy, and I will be learning the Body Flicker Technique," Mu Yue announced their new training plan for the holidays.
During the period of the Chunin Exams and the training mission, Obito had practiced nature transformation for a while, but he had only scratched the surface. He needed to continue his training in this regard.
Unlike Naruto, who had an extraordinary amount of chakra and stamina, Obito couldn't rely on the Multi-Shadow Clone Technique for accelerated learning. He had to take a more gradual approach.
"No more combat practice!"
If the two days off during the week had pleased Obito, the suspension of combat training made him absolutely ecstatic about the long holiday.
Without the combat exercises, there would be no mountains of questions to answer. Nature transformation training was exhausting, but compared to solving those problems, Obito would gladly choose the former.
After the training schedule was set, the disciples began their respective exercises.
Obito held a large block of ice and continuously channeled his chakra, while Kakashi and Guy joined Mu Yue to learn the Body Flicker Technique.
As he watched Mu Yue teaching Kakashi and Guy the technique, flashing around with them, Obito, clutching the ice block, felt the chill seep through his hand and into his heart via his chakra pathways.
"Teacher Mu Yue, what was that taijutsu challenge you mentioned before? I want to learn the Body Flicker Technique, too," Obito couldn't help but ask.
He recalled Mu Yue saying that besides achieving first place in their grade, completing a taijutsu challenge she set would also grant them the opportunity to learn the Body Flicker Technique.
However, at that time, Mu Yue had directly told Obito that he wouldn't be able to complete it, so he hadn't asked about the specifics of the challenge.
But now, a month had passed, and his strength had noticeably improved. Perhaps he could take on the challenge Mu Yue had mentioned.
"The taijutsu challenge... that's quite difficult. Are you sure you want to try it?" Mu Yue created a shadow clone to converse with Obito.
"But everyone else is learning the Body Flicker Technique. If I don't learn it, I'll fall behind," Obito said.
"Alright, I'll set up the venue today. You can give it a try tomorrow," Mu Yue nodded in agreement.
Obito's actions were within his expectations.
Kakashi set up mechanisms that could only be completed with sufficient speed and strength. When the time came, Obito, driven by his desire to learn the Body Flicker Technique, would undoubtedly work hard to strengthen his physique.
Once the challenge was accomplished and his body strengthened, cultivating the Body Flicker Technique would become easier.
Moreover, Obito would value this reward earned through his own efforts and study it more diligently since it didn't come easily.
To help her disciples enhance their strength, Mu Yue considered every aspect, including their psychology.
After the training session, Mu Yue headed to his house in the main city as usual.
Today, he had made sushi and tempura.
However, there was a slight interruption during their meal. Just as the three of them were chatting and enjoying their food, the sound of a hawk's cry came from outside.
"Why now?" Kushina, who had just eaten a sushi, frowned in displeasure.
"Let's go. Something urgent must have happened for such a sudden call." Minato stood up and explained.
"Sorry, Mu Yue. We have to leave for a moment. An emergency Jonin meeting has been called."
Whenever something significant happened in Konoha, a message ninja hawk would be dispatched to notify the Jonin. This wasn't the first time Minato had experienced this.
"Mu Yue, remember to keep some food for us. These meetings don't usually last long. With Minato's speed, we'll be back soon." Before leaving, Kushina reminded Mu Yue to save them some food.
"There's so much that even I can't finish it all by myself." Mu Yue smiled and nodded, wondering what important event had occurred.
Based on the timeline, he guessed that it might be related to the upcoming Third Great Ninja War.
"Is a full-scale war about to break out?" Mu Yue wondered.
Kushina and Minato didn't keep Mu Yue waiting for long, returning in less than half an hour.
"I thought something big had happened, but it turns out the Third Kazekage of Sunagakure is missing," Kushina complained as she entered the house.
"Calling an emergency Jonin meeting for this... Someone who doesn't know better might think the Third Hokage of Konoha had disappeared."
Hearing Kushina's words, Mu Yue silently agreed that a great war was about to break out.
With their strength already accumulated, Kumogakure had been itching for a fight, and the disappearance of the Third Kazekage presented an opportunity they wouldn't miss.
"The disappearance of any Kage would greatly impact the balance of power in the ninja world. With the Third Kazekage suddenly gone, a major war is likely to break out." Unlike Kushina, Minato's expression turned solemn.
"Indeed. Sunagakure is in for a tough time." Kushina nodded and took a big bite of her sushi.
Listening to their conversation, Mu Yue felt a mix of emotions.
Perhaps no one could have imagined that the Third Great Ninja War, triggered by the disappearance of the Third Kazekage, would result in Konoha being surrounded and assaulted on all sides, although they ultimately emerged victorious.
With the war looming, Mu Yue felt an even greater sense of insecurity.
He could only be thankful that he was a covert agent of Root, and even if Danzo had a brain fart and wanted to send someone after him, he would be among the last batch.
Mu Yue held no hope for Danzo.
He merely wished that before the flames of war reached Konoha, he could elevate his strength to the level of a Kage.
In this dangerous world, strength was the most important asset. Without it, everything else was just empty talk.
