Chapter 74: A Long-Planned Attack
Chapter 74: A Long-Planned Attack
October 30th, the day before Halloween.
Early in the morning, Jerry saw Hagrid, who looked like a small giant, and Professor Flitwick, the Charms professor, using magic to decorate the Great Hall.
Hagrid placed magic candles inside hollowed-out giant pumpkins, while Professor Flitwick used the Levitation Charm to lift the jack-o'-lanterns one by one.
Seeing the massive pumpkins floating above the hall, Jerry couldn't help but marvel at the vast difference in magical prowess between himself and the professors.
Professor Flitwick could easily levitate hundreds of super jack-o'-lanterns and keep them floating for days without any issues.
Jerry, on the other hand, could only manage to keep a bus suspended for two seconds when he used the Levitation Charm.
However, compared to most other first-year wizards who were still struggling to levitate feathers, Jerry was already quite accomplished.
Perhaps because so many pumpkins were being used to make jack-o'-lanterns today, breakfast was a uniform serving of pumpkin porridge, which Jerry detested.
If it weren't for the fact that several professors were also eating breakfast in the Great Hall and it was forbidden to use magic casually, Jerry would have transfigured the pumpkin porridge into tofu pudding.
Today, the Slytherin first years only had classes in the morning. After catching up on some sleep in the afternoon, Jerry took a magic book he borrowed from the library and settled into a chair in the Slytherin common room to read.
He read until around six in the evening.
"Jerry, the feast is about to start! If you don't leave now, you'll be late!"
Daphne and Pansy, passing through the common room, noticed that there were only a few minutes left before the feast started, yet Jerry showed no signs of leaving. They immediately reminded him.
Jerry looked up and smiled gently.
"Don't worry, you go ahead. I don't like noisy environments. I'll join you after I finish these last two pages."
Daphne and Pansy, seeing his determination, left the common room.
Ten minutes later, Jerry put down his magic book and checked the time.
"The feast should be starting now. Everyone should be in the Great Hall by now."
He returned to his dormitory and retrieved the Tranquilizer Sniper Rifle he had fetched from the Room of Requirement the previous night. Wrapping it in a cloth, he quietly left the Slytherin dormitory.
With Superman Mode activated, Jerry moved like a highly skilled and agile operative, quickly making his way toward the staircase connecting the first floor and the basement.
The first basement level of Hogwarts was vast. Besides the boat house near the Black Lake, the Slytherin dormitory, the Potions classroom, the Slytherin Head's office, and the Hufflepuff common room, storage room, and kitchen near the bottom of the Great Hall, there were also a dozen abandoned classrooms.
To reach the basement from the first floor, one could either use a special secret passage or take the small staircase next to the grand marble staircase.
Jerry, carrying the sniper rifle, went to the nearest abandoned classroom by the small staircase. He pressed his ear against the wall and waited quietly.
About twenty minutes later, the sound of footsteps descending the stairs came from the small staircase behind the wall.
Someone was coming down from the first floor to the basement!
The Halloween Feast had already begun, and almost all the professors and students, including Headmaster Dumbledore and the caretaker, Filch, were certainly at the feast.
At this time, the only person who would come from the first floor to the basement is Professor Quirrell, who is preparing to release a Troll to cause chaos and steal the Magic Stone from the fourth floor.
Once the footsteps faded away from the stairs, Jerry picked up his Sniper Rifle and cautiously moved towards the classroom door.
He opened the wooden door a crack and pulled out the mirror he had prepared. Through the reflection, he saw the back of Professor Quirrell, who was wearing a purple scarf.
At that moment, Professor Quirrell was walking away, his back to Jerry, his demeanor suspicious as he made his way down the basement corridor towards the fifth basement classroom.
"Sure enough, he's here!"
Seeing Quirrell's figure in the mirror, Jerry couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement.
In fact, he had been planning this operation for a long time.
In the Main World, he had always wanted a suitcase like Newt's from "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", a mini-world in a suitcase.
Firstly, with that suitcase, he would have a secret base.
As a superhero, especially one who didn't want to be controlled by any person or organization, not having a secret base was simply out of the question.
Secondly, carrying a flying broom every time he went out was extremely inconvenient. A spatial item would make his life much easier.
However, after his investigation and inquiries, he found that items like Newt's suitcase were not as easy to obtain as one might think. Even with a lot of gold galleons, it was impossible to get one through normal channels.
This is because spatial items like Newt's suitcase are primarily created using the Extension Charm, an advanced spell taught in the fifth or sixth year.
The use of such spells is strictly prohibited by the Ministry of Magic.
According to the Ministry's regulations, the Extension Charm, which can expand space, is only allowed for specific items approved by the Ministry, such as school trunks and family tents.
Therefore, unless a wizard violates the rules and makes one themselves, it is impossible to purchase such items from legitimate stores.
However, with Jerry's current level of magical knowledge, learning an advanced spell like the Extension Charm would not be easy, even if he obtained the spell through other means.
Even if he managed to learn it, he would likely only be able to expand the space by a small amount, and it would involve complex alchemical knowledge.
So, he decided to focus on the wizards he had encountered who might possess such items.
While some professors at Hogwarts might have such items in private, they might not carry them around, and he would have a hard time finding an opportunity to steal them.
However, there was one exception.
That was Professor Quirrell, who taught Defense Against the Dark Arts.
This professor was once an outstanding wizard from Ravenclaw, with considerable power, especially in Dark Magic.
However, during a trip to Albania, he encountered a fragment of Voldemort's soul and was seduced into becoming a loyal Death Eater, allowing Voldemort's soul fragment to possess him.
Upon returning to the school, he began to cover the back of his head, where Voldemort's soul fragment resided, with a purple scarf, using strong-smelling items like garlic to mask Voldemort's decaying odor.
He also started to fabricate stories about encountering vampires and being frightened by witches, pretending to be a timid and cowardly person to lower everyone's guard.
This time, he was taking advantage of the fact that everyone, including Headmaster Dumbledore and the night watchman, Filch, were in the Great Hall. He planned to release a Troll in the basement to create chaos and then sneak into the forbidden area on the fourth floor to steal the Magic Stone that could resurrect Voldemort.
