Chapter 739: Secret Base
Chapter 739: Secret Base
After returning from the bank, Ryan and the others poured all their efforts into the plan to attack London. After all, with Voldemort nowhere to be found, the people in London were almost the only enemies they could currently locate.
Of course, Liam knew that Voldemort was the core of those Death Eaters. If Voldemort wasn't taken down, those damned Death Eaters would keep emerging from various places. Over the next few days, Liam led his followers into London multiple times, trying to find Voldemort's location.
Even after making preparations, Liam led a few elite team members directly into Diagon Alley and brazenly attacked four Death Eaters outside Gringotts. Despite the Death Eaters retaliating with Killing Curses, Liam and his team managed to kill three and injure one. However, even as Ryan and the others dragged the captured Death Eater from Gringotts all the way to the Leaky Cauldron, not a single Death Eater came out to stop them.
Along the way, Liam personally saw the Death Eater patrol that was supposed to be stationed in Diagon Alley. But they watched as Ryan and the others dragged the captured Death Eater into Knockturn Alley without even a glance at their captured comrade.
After returning to Hogsmeade with the prisoner, Ryan and the others interrogated the captured Death Eater. Unfortunately, this Death Eater was just a low-level member and had no idea where Voldemort had gone. With no other choice, Ryan and the others sent the Death Eater to the Ministry of Magic.
However, combining the prisoner's testimony with what they had seen in Diagon Alley today, it was clear that Voldemort had not appeared in public for a long time and might have even left London. This, in a way, was beneficial for their upcoming attack on London.
But Liam remained highly vigilant, knowing that Voldemort and his hidden forces were like a viper, ready to strike with a fatal blow at any moment.
Apart from Liam, both Dumbledore and the Ministry of Magic were also searching for Voldemort's whereabouts, but to no avail. So where was Voldemort hiding?
Ryan and the others were right about one thing: Voldemort was indeed not in London with his core Death Eaters. In a remote coastal hill area in northern Scotland, hidden beneath the lush grass-covered mounds that appeared and disappeared in the mist, lay a secret that almost no one knew.
"On April 26, Dumbledore announced that a major attack on London would be launched in the very near future. This is a very good thing, indicating that the fight against Dark Wizards in Britain has entered its final stage. The time has come to finally defeat the Dark Lord and all his lackeys."
"In this situation, all those resisting the Dark Forces should join this great counteroffensive and closely cooperate with the main forces of the Ministry of Magic. Thoroughly clear the reclaimed areas and rebuild effective administrative institutions. Efforts should also be made to restore most of the production before the war ends."
"Hah, all just propaganda. The great Dark Lord will surely defeat these filthy creatures. You will never understand the greatness of the Dark Lord." A witch with a sallow complexion crumpled up the British Wizarding Times and threw it into the fireplace. As the wood crackled, she opened the door and walked out of the room.
Outside the room was a dark corridor, with only a few floating candles providing a meager amount of light. On both sides of the corridor, doors lined the walls, but there was almost no activity. The entire place had a gloomy, lifeless feel, more like a tomb passage than a living space.
The overly excited Witch walked quietly down the corridor, her iron-soled boots making no sound on the Stone Corridor, as if she were a ghost drifting through the air.
She paused at each door, listening intently to the sounds from inside. When she reached one particular door, her eyes widened, and she drew her wand, blasting open the wooden door with a spell.
The explosion startled the two men sitting at a table inside, who immediately stood up, their faces filled with fear. On the table between them sat a crude Magic Radio, emitting a choppy, intermittent voice.
"—Death Eaters, you are at the end of your rope. The defenses in London have completely collapsed, and our forces can easily enter Diagon Alley to eliminate the Death Eaters and leave without anyone daring to stop us. Your master has abandoned you, and even our large-scale operations in London have left him without a single countermeasure, like a mouse hiding in the sewers—"
With a bang, the radio was shattered by a spell before Lee Jordan could finish his sentence. The Witch, enraged, pointed her wand at the two trembling young men. "How dare you listen to this—how dare you! Cruciatus, Cruciatus."
The two young men immediately collapsed on the ground, curling up and screaming in agony, but the Witch's eyes showed no mercy. Instead, she increased the power of her magic. "Crabbe, Flint, the Dark Lord's allowing you to be here is a great honor, and you dare to listen to this."
"We won't dare again, please spare us, Bellatrix, my lady", the two young Wizards pleaded, but Bellatrix did not relent. Only when their cries became barely audible did she stop her torment.
"Remember, being brought here by the Dark Lord is a supreme honor. If I catch you doing anything inappropriate again, a simple Cruciatus Curse won't be enough to settle the matter", Bellatrix warned in a sharp voice.
"Yes, my lady", Vincent Crabbe and Marcus Flint replied weakly from the ground. But Bellatrix walked out of the room without a backward glance at the two men, who were still twitching on the floor.
Although Bellatrix despised these young Wizards, she would never voice her disdain. Vincent Crabbe and Marcus Flint, among others, had been brought in on Voldemort's suggestion.
On one hand, resources were scarce. After Liam's large-scale attacks, Voldemort was shocked to find his manpower and wealth had dwindled to a dangerously low level, forcing him to seek out every available resource to complete his current plan.
On the other hand, after a series of actions and battles, most of those who stood with Voldemort were no longer loyal to him, remaining only out of fear of his power and cruel methods. Voldemort was well aware of this, so to ensure the secrecy of his plan, he left all those he deemed unreliable in London. Young Wizards like Vincent Crabbe and Marcus Flint, while lacking in power, were considered reliable because their fathers had been Core Death Eaters and had died in battle.
As Voldemort's most loyal follower, Bellatrix despised these young, weak, and incompetent Wizards. However, she would never question his decision.
After punishing the two men for their inappropriate behavior, Bellatrix stepped into the corridor, took a deep breath to compose herself, and walked to the end of the corridor, pushing open a door.
A chill rushed into the corridor, causing Bellatrix to shiver, but she quickly regained her composure and descended into a dark, downward passage.
