Chapter 739: Relocation
Chapter 739: Relocation
Captain Hu immediately spoke up, "We need to split up. Let the fastest among us escort the relic to the camp, while the rest of us stay behind to intercept any pursuers."
Captain Lv seemed to agree with this suggestion.
But Captain Hai quickly disagreed, "No, we can't separate."
Captain Hu, slightly agitated, responded, "Captain Hai, what are you thinking? If we all go together, none of us will make it out!"
Captain Hai looked at the other two and said, "No, I have a better idea." He then gestured to one of the guides nearby, signaling for him to approach.
The guide glanced at Captain Hai and then at the casket in his hand, before cautiously walking over.
As the guide drew near, Captain Hai thrust the casket into his arms and, staring into his eyes, said, "I'll make one last deal with you. You know these paths well. If you deliver this to the camp, you can trade for anything you want in Great Harmony from now on."
The guide hesitated, his eyes flickering momentarily, before tightly grasping the casket.
"Hai Gao, what are you doing!" Captain Hu roared.
Captain Lv's gaze turned stern as he looked at Captain Hai and said, "Captain Hai, do you really think this guide will honor your agreement and take the item to the camp?"
Captain Hai replied, "I trust them. If they don't deliver it, I'll take responsibility for the loss of the relic."
Captain Hu's voice rose in anger, "I fear you won't be able to take that responsibility, Captain Hai. This opportunity that Captain Xu fought for isn't meant to be used like this! Give it back!" He started to move towards the guide.
But Captain Hai quickly blocked his path and said to the guide, "I'll hold him off, you go!"
"Don't move!"
"Get out of my way!"
Captain Hu tried to get past him, but Captain Hai once again blocked his way, infuriating him. Captain Hu raised his hand, but Captain Hai deflected it with his arm. At that moment, Captain Lv darted forward, but after taking only a few steps, Captain Hai sidestepped, sending a capturing force towards Captain Lv's back.
Captain Lv felt a tingling sensation on his back and knew that Captain Hai was skilled in capturing techniques. If he didn't evade, he would be captured and unable to act. So, he reluctantly turned back, using his own heart force to divert the incoming force, causing a loud bang as he deflected it.
The guide took advantage of the moment and sprinted away, quickly disappearing into the forest. Only the radiant glow remained, lingering in the sky. The other guides, sensing the tension, had already fled with the casket.
"Hai Gao, I suspect you're a traitor!" Captain Hu shouted in anger, his attacks becoming more ferocious.
Captain Lv's expression grew stern. He tried to leave several times, but Captain Hai kept blocking his path. At this moment, neither wanted to involve their teammates from behind.
As the radiant glow gradually faded into the distance, Captains Hu and Lv suddenly stopped their attacks, their anxious and angry expressions vanishing, replaced by calmness.
Captain Lv glanced into the distance and said, "You're right, Captain Hai. These guides are indeed suspicious. They wouldn't take on such a dangerous task unless there was something wrong."
Captain Hai shook his head, "Captain Xu realized this long ago."
"If we hadn't given them the item today, they probably would've attacked us, right?" Captain Hu asked.
"They might not have attacked us, as they're not qualified enough," Captain Lv replied, shaking his head. "But I fear someone else might. Captain Hai, I hope your decision is the right one."
"I don't know if this decision is right," Captain Hai said, "but holding onto this item is definitely wrong. We can't carry it with us, so it's better to let these two groups fight it out. Even if we can't be hunters, we can't become the most obvious prey. That would be the worst outcome."
"We also need to send a signal to Captain Xu. If he sees it, he'll understand our intention," Captain Hai added.
"Right!" Captain Lv realized, "We need to do it quickly. I'll take care of it!"
He quickly found a higher spot and, using a signal gun, fired a shot into the sky. With a loud bang, a massive flare soared upwards, its bright light hanging high in the sky.
However, Captain Xu might not see it if they were too far away, and it was daytime, making the flare less visible. Additionally, the radiant glow from the sky almost blinded everyone, further diminishing the flare's effectiveness.
As for the hidden message, Captain Xu didn't have time to stop and decipher it, even for a moment. He had to keep moving, and he noticed that even at this point, the Union hadn't relaxed their guard, with a team blocking his path.
From above, one could see four paths through the forest, with the Union in the center, flanked by the Lianaker Federation on both sides, and Captain Xu on the outermost edge. They were all moving at the same pace, rushing towards the relic's location.
This unknown area wasn't easy to navigate, filled with strange creatures, but they maintained a quick pace.
The relic holder, though not slow, was gradually caught up to. After half a day's journey, everyone felt they were closing in on their target.
As the situation intensified, the powerful fighters from various factions had no time to concern themselves with the others and instead focused on unleashing their full speed.
With the pursuit lasting for a few hours, nightfall was approaching, and they would have to wait until dawn to continue the chase. However, no one could predict what new challenges might arise during that time.
Under these circumstances, the members of the different teams gradually spread out, with Euseios Hross taking the lead without question.
General Seraph, the Thunder Twins, Gray Whale, Skinner, Soldier Ant, and others were positioned slightly behind, with some leading and others following. Further back, Blood Diamond, still recovering from his injuries, and other fighters trailed behind.
As time passed, the distance between the different groups increased.
On the other end, Chen Chuan abruptly halted, stopping in his tracks. He held onto his wide-brimmed hat as his cloak fluttered in the wind, and behind him, a loud rumbling sound filled the air, accompanied by a trail of dust and falling leaves swirling in the air.
He had been running at high speed for two hours, significantly narrowing the gap between him and the ray of light. He estimated that if the speed ahead remained unchanged, he would catch up in another two to three hours.
Despite his physical stamina, the prolonged exertion of his mental powers had taken a toll. Considering the possibility of an imminent encounter with the enemy, he needed to recuperate.
Drawing his sword, he swung it, creating a rift in front of him. He effortlessly extracted the shell-like structure, which glowed under the rift's light. He took a whiff, and a wisp of smoke emerged, indicating the previous expenditure had been gradually replenished.
The Lynx Talisman, which Chen Chuan had acquired, trembled with eagerness to join in. Chen Chuan allowed it to consume the smoke, knowing it might be useful later. He was impartial, also allowing Chao Ming to take a whiff.
For the past few days, Chen Chuan had encouraged Chao Ming to fly as much as possible during the day, only allowing it to land when exhausted, to promote the growth of its anomaly organization. This process was equally taxing, but with these resources, it could recover.
After restoring his energy, Chen Chuan adjusted his hat brim and gazed at the light. With a determined stride, he continued his pursuit through the booming atmosphere.
An hour later, Euseios Hross burst out of the dense forest, finding himself in a clearing. The trees were sparse, and a winding river flowed nearby, less than a kilometer away.
Across the river, a seemingly injured man leaned against a large rock, a few mysterious creature corpses scattered a short distance in front of him.
The man held a black casket from which the light emanated. When he noticed Euseios Hross's gaze, fear flashed across his face. He scrambled to his feet and stumbled away.
Before he could get far, his body exploded, spraying blood and flesh across the soft soil. The black casket tumbled to the ground, rolling a few times before coming to a stop against a rock. Its contents spilled out.
Euseios Hross retracted his fist and took a few steps forward, extending his agile arm to pick up the glowing object. He held it close to examine it.
The object was spherical, resembling a crushed egg, its broken shell barely holding together. Natural gaps and cracks revealed a faint glow and intricate patterns resembling biological meridians. The glow pulsated, as if breathing.
He wiped away the bloodstains on its surface and spoke, "With this in hand, I can return. We came for the object, and I don't care about the rest. But I suspect this might go against your duties, so let's settle this matter before we leave."
He turned to find Xu Chan nearby, the commander's military coat torn in multiple places, evidence of the challenges he had faced.
Euseios Hross was surprised, "You know there's no fairness here. In a few minutes, my team will arrive. Do you think you can defeat me and take the object within that time?"
Xu Chan replied, "It's not necessary." He spun and threw something at Euseios Hross.
Cautious, Euseios Hross dodged to the side instead of catching it. The object exploded in mid-air, showering blood and flesh, some of which landed on his clothes and shoes.
Euseios Hross glanced at it, recognizing a small creature resembling a mouse and a monkey with membrane wings. He guessed the purpose of throwing the creature and quickly understood. As he focused his gaze, he noticed a swarm of similar creatures approaching from the sky.
Xu Chan unbuttoned his military coat and tossed it to the ground, saying, "I alone might not be enough, but what if I had their help?"
