Chapter 734: We Are the Same Kind of People
Chapter 734: We Are the Same Kind of People
After sensing an intrusion, all the Wizards except those responsible for guarding gathered around, forming a semicircle with their wands pointed at the intruder. However, when they saw the pale, eerie snake-like face of their visitor, not a single one dared to make a move.
Voldemort walked forward as if he were strolling through a garden, completely ignoring the wands aimed at him.
The Wizards surrounding him, on the other hand, seemed to be choked by Death itself, struggling to breathe even as they stood there.
"God... Dark Lord?" one of the Aurors shrieked, his body trembling so violently that he almost dropped his wand.
Seeing this, Ivan inwardly cursed. The fear Voldemort instilled was far deeper than he had anticipated.
Thanks to his constant use of Legilimency, Ivan could clearly sense the rising terror in everyone's hearts. The situation, which he had managed to control, was quickly spiraling back into chaos.
The Aurors, who still had some courage to face Voldemort, fared better than the Wizards from Knockturn Alley. As Voldemort approached, the latter continued to retreat, and if it weren't for the blocked exit, they would have scattered in all directions long ago.
The most elated of all were the captured Death Eaters. Though bound by ropes, they seemed overjoyed, wriggling and crawling towards Voldemort. One of them, the leader, cried out, "Master! You've finally come to save us..."
The Dark Wizards who were supposed to be on trial also saw Voldemort as their savior, scrambling to reach him.
Intimidated by Voldemort's presence, no one dared to stop the Dark Wizards' actions. They simply watched as the Dark Wizards knelt before Voldemort, begging for his protection.
Ivan paid no attention to these people. The Death Eaters, without wands, posed no real threat and might even become a burden to Voldemort.
The true enemy he needed to face was Voldemort himself.
As Voldemort continued to advance, the Aurors retreated to Ivan's side, all waiting for his command.
"Your wounds healed rather quickly, didn't they?" Ivan looked at Voldemort, paused for a moment, and then spoke with a hint of sarcasm.
As he spoke, Ivan took a few steps closer to Voldemort, his own aura growing stronger.
He did this not to deliberately provoke Voldemort, but because he realized that his inaction in the face of Voldemort's provocations had already significantly undermined his authority.
If he showed any more weakness, Ivan feared that these seemingly loyal Aurors might turn their wands on him at any moment.
After all, aside from Fenrir and a few others, he had not known the other Aurors for long, and their loyalty was questionable. Their obedience had always been maintained through his strength and authority.
With a more formidable and ruthless Voldemort standing before him, Ivan had no confidence that these Aurors would remain steadfast by his side.
Most importantly, Ivan wanted to test whether Voldemort's injuries had fully healed.
However, from Voldemort's nonchalant attitude despite being surrounded by dozens of wands, it was clear that he had most likely recovered to his full strength. Otherwise, he would never have dared to be so bold.
"Of course, my loyal servants always have a few who can be of some use..." Voldemort showed no sign of anger in response to Ivan's overt and covert mockery. Instead, he casually explained.
Then he slightly tilted his head, casually waving his wand to release the ropes binding the Death Eaters. He slowly grabbed one of their arms, pulled up the sleeve, and his red eyes stared at the burning Dark Mark on the Death Eater's arm, speaking with a playful tone.
"For instance, right now! If I hadn't felt the Dark Mark's summoning, I wouldn't have seen such a spectacular scene..."
For a moment, Ivan considered taking advantage of Voldemort's distraction, but he ultimately held back. With himself and a large number of Aurors present, Voldemort wouldn't expose such an obvious weakness.
As Ivan pondered, Voldemort had already let go of the Death Eater's arm and turned to face him.
"Ivan Hals..." Voldemort softly repeated his name, "Do you know? I originally intended to kill you! You've caused me too many troubles, disrupting my plans time and time again..."
At this point, Voldemort's snake-like face twisted. He recalled the night four years ago and the battle a few days prior.
If not for Ivan's sudden interference, he would have achieved his goal smoothly...
Scenes flashed through his mind, and a brutal killing intent emanated from Voldemort, causing the temperature in the square to drop noticeably...
But Ivan's expression became even calmer than before. He replied with a cold laugh.
"Boastful..."
If not for his concern for Asia's safety and the presence of all the wizards in Knockturn Alley, he could have simply escaped. No matter how strong Voldemort was, he couldn't do anything to him.
Moreover, he still had an ace up his sleeve. Using it here would be too wasteful and wouldn't guarantee a decisive blow against Voldemort...
Voldemort paid no attention to Ivan's words. The previous battle had already revealed Ivan's strength to him. Though not as powerful as himself, Ivan wasn't easy to deal with in just a few moves. This was why he hadn't acted immediately.
"In a certain sense, you and I are quite similar, Hals. You should be grateful for that! So I've changed my mind and decided to give you a chance to live!" Voldemort reined in his killing intent and looked at Ivan with a half-smile, his gaze somewhat evasive, as if deliberately avoiding eye contact. He continued speaking.
"When I was young, I realized a truth: most people in this world are ordinary, their horizons and talents limiting their thinking, condemning them to be mere specks in the tides of history..."
Voldemort swept his gaze over the Casters who, despite pointing their wands at him, were too terrified to act. His eyes were full of disdain. He quickly turned his gaze back and spoke with a passionate, enthusiastic, and oddly mesmerizing voice.
"But you are different, Hals! You and I are both talented individuals. If we join forces, the entire Wizarding World will have no power to match us!"
"You want me to join you in fighting Dumbledore?" Ivan immediately understood Voldemort's words and finally realized why he hadn't attacked right away but instead chose to engage in this lengthy conversation. It was all part of this plan.
