Chapter 734: Death Eater Handler
Chapter 734: Death Eater Handler
In a secluded classroom on the eighth floor of Hogwarts, a deep, raspy voice echoed like a ghostly whisper, sending chills down one's spine.
"I've fulfilled your request. Did you bring what I asked for?"
Kyle directly pulled out a suitcase from his Transfiguration lizard-skin bag and placed it on the table, opening it and pushing it forward.
"Two hundred enhanced Popping Balloons, not one less."
Zuko's Joke Shop had closed, and these were all purchased by Kyle from Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Fred and George had cleverly hidden them inside an emptied book, evading Filch's inspection.
Kyle could have used a better method, such as a small box with the Seamless Expansion Charm, but the Weasley brothers disagreed. They found such a method too boring and not exciting enough.
Upon seeing the box, Peeves immediately flew over excitedly and nodded.
The quantity was indeed impressive, and there were even thirty extra balloons. However, Kyle didn't seem particularly happy. Instead, he frowned and said, "Something's not right. Where are the hundred Stink Pellets we agreed upon? They're not here."
"Don't worry. Stink Pellets are not as easy to bring in as balloons. We'll have to wait a few days," Kyle explained. "Moreover, they've made some improvements to some of them."
"Improvements..." Peeves' eyes lit up, "Are they bigger?"
Kyle shook his head, "No. They've added the real thing inside."
Peeves' expression instantly became peculiar, his eyes revealing a trace of unconcealed disdain and a heartfelt admiration.
These two contrasting emotions were perfectly combined.
Although Peeves was a ghost, he wasn't completely clueless.
'Stink Pellets' was just a name. The special smell was merely a concoction of various herbs.
Adding the real thing inside... The students of Hogwarts would go crazy. Such devilish ideas, you're the real Dark Lord!
Peeves silently gave Kyle a thumbs-up, then asked curiously, "Kyle, lad... no, Mr. Kyle, do you have a grudge against Hogwarts?"
"Of course not," Kyle said, "Don't misunderstand. I was just about to explain. Those specially made Stink Pellets are not included in our agreed-upon quantity; they're an extra gift."
"Gift? What do you mean?" Peeves didn't quite understand.
"It's not the right time to explain," Kyle thought for a moment, "Anyway, you can collect them first. When the time comes to use them, you'll naturally understand."
Peeves scratched his hair in frustration. To be honest, he didn't like Kyle's behavior of not explaining things clearly. If it were someone else, he would definitely ask to the bottom of it and, by the way, throw a dozen or so balloons filled with vinegar at the person's head.
But now... out of respect for a fellow prankster, Peeves held back.
He collected the box of balloons, curious. "I really don't understand why you want to put that cabinet on the second floor and have me lead the Slytherin ghost over."
"If I directly gave it to him, he wouldn't accept it," Kyle said, "How about it? They took it."
"Of course, with my personal involvement, there's nothing impossible," Peeves said, "They directly moved the cabinet, and they were so happy, I could hear their laughter from upstairs."
"Then it's settled," Kyle nodded, preparing to leave the room.
"Wait a moment," Peeves chased after him, "You haven't told me why you're doing this."
"You'll know in due time," Kyle waved his hand, showing no intention of stopping.
Peeves was furious, scratching his ears and cheeks, but he had no way to deal with Kyle.
Kyle was his biggest supplier of pranking weapons, especially now that Zuko's Joke Shop had closed, and there were fewer and fewer prank products on young wizards. The Halloween Ball was a time when he threw out all his stock.
Now, the only one who could obtain a large number of balloons was Kyle, and he couldn't be easily offended.
Peeves, fuming, grabbed a handful of balloons and flew downstairs, slamming the door.
He needed to wait at the Hufflepuff Common Room entrance, ready to fill the balloons with vinegar when the young wizards knocked the wrong password.
However, the Hufflepuff password wasn't that difficult, and usually, young wizards wouldn't make a mistake after knocking the password a few times.
Therefore, to speed up the process, Peeves would usually create a disturbance when the young wizards were knocking the password, distracting them.
For first-year students, this trick worked every time.
...
Meanwhile, Kyle, after leaving the classroom, didn't return to the dormitory. Instead, he directly circled the eighth floor and arrived at the Headmaster's Office entrance.
"Acid Pops," Kyle said, and the Talking Portrait moved aside, revealing a spiral staircase behind it.
Kyle climbed the staircase, familiar with the way, and reached the oak door. He knocked, but there was no response from inside.
It seemed that Dumbledore had gone out again.
However, Kyle didn't leave. Instead, he took out his wand and pointed it at the brass doorknob on the door.
"Separate and open!" Kyle commanded, and the door knocker transformed into two fire-breathing dragons, each pulling in opposite directions.
Kyle pushed the door open and walked in, as if he were entering his own home. As expected, Dumbledore was not present.
The portraits on the walls stirred, their eyes opening at the commotion.
"You again..." Phineas was the first to speak, "This is the Headmaster's Office. How dare you, a student, just barge in like this!"
"A correction, Headmaster Black," Kyle said, "I didn't barge in. I opened the door and walked in, just like using a key."
"Even if you put it that way, you still can't..." Phineas suddenly flew out of his portrait, landing in the grass outside.
"He must have something important to discuss with Dumbledore. Don't cause trouble!" Headmaster Dippet said, giving Phineas a kick to send him away.
However, Kyle was suspicious, wondering if Dippet had done it on purpose, as if he wanted to kick Phineas himself.
"That's right," Kyle nodded, "Do you know where Professor Dumbledore is?"
"I'm afraid I don't know," Headmaster Dippet replied.
"Of course you don't, you fool," Phineas flew towards Dippet, swinging his arm to return the favor of the earlier kick.
But Dippet had anticipated this, and he turned to engage Phineas, not minding Kyle's presence.
Perhaps it was because this wasn't the first time; the other Headmasters seemed accustomed to such behavior.
"So, is there something urgent you need to discuss with Dumbledore?" A witch with graying hair stepped forward, addressing Kyle from the nearest portrait, and she positioned herself between the two Headmasters who were now pulling each other's hair.
"Not particularly urgent," Kyle replied, "I was just thinking about how Voldemort might attack Hogwarts, that's all. We can talk about it later."
The female Headmaster remained silent for a moment.
"Please wait a moment..."
She turned away and took a deep breath. Then, with a swift motion, she raised her fist, and the ensuing scene was blocked by a knight, leaving only the sound of clanging metal.
After a couple of minutes, Kyle saw Phineas again, now sporting a clear fist print on his face.
"Well, Dumbledore is at Number 12, Grimmauld Place," Phineas said, "I've already informed him, and he should be back soon..."
As he finished speaking, a faint sound could be heard from outside.
Dumbledore had returned, his beard still bearing traces of uneaten food.
"Mrs. Weasley was so enthusiastic... She insisted I try her freshly baked bread, and it was indeed delicious."
Dumbledore sat behind the desk and asked, "I heard from Phineas that you have something important to discuss with me?"
"I suppose so," Kyle said, "I have an idea about how Draco Malfoy might assist Voldemort in entering Hogwarts."
"What?" Dumbledore was taken aback, then coughed lightly, "That's a serious accusation. Without evidence..."
"Alright, let's drop the name then," Kyle shrugged nonchalantly, unconcerned with Dumbledore's thoughts, "It's the Vanishing Cabinet."
---
"The Vanishing Cabinet?" Dumbledore adjusted his glasses. As a master alchemist, he was well aware of the cabinet's function.
The cabinet was like a physical manifestation of Apparition, with two cabinets in total. By entering one cabinet and closing the door, one could emerge from the other.
Although fixed in location, the Vanishing Cabinet was unaffected by any restrictions, making it incredibly convenient, especially during Dumbledore's younger days.
Its only drawback was its rarity; it was even more precious than the Everlasting Elixirs, and among all alchemists, perhaps only Nicolas Flamel could create them.
"You're saying Voldemort obtained these rare Vanishing Cabinets and managed to bring one into the school?" Dumbledore's expression grew more serious.
"Not Voldemort, it's Malfoy... Well, another person," Kyle said, "And it's not even necessary to bring it here; it's already in the school."
"You mean... the one Peeves broke?" Dumbledore quickly realized, "But that cabinet is just one, I've tried entering it before, but there was no response. Perhaps the other cabinet no longer exists."
Dumbledore was well aware of the Vanishing Cabinet in the school, but it required two cabinets to function. One alone was useless.
"It might just be broken," Kyle said, "Creating a Vanishing Cabinet is difficult, but repairing it is much simpler. Even I can do it.
"The cabinet Peeves broke was the one I repaired."
Dumbledore's eye twitched.
He had chosen to ignore it before.
As an alchemist, such a precious magical item was something Dumbledore wouldn't dare destroy, even if he knew of its dangers. Peeves breaking it was, in a way, a favor.
He never expected that Kyle would find this item, and even fix it.
Kyle didn't notice Dumbledore's changing expression and continued, "I noticed someone looking for something, so I tentatively placed the Vanishing Cabinet there, and he actually took it, and he was in a state of elation."
"Forget it, just say the name." Dumbledore rubbed his forehead, "When did you find out about Draco Malfoy? Only a few people should know about this."
"It was after the last time we went to Hogsmeade." Kyle said, "But Professor Snape insisted on protecting him, and Cona thought he might have some plan, so I didn't bother anymore."
"Mr. Malfoy's Dark Magic Necklace was meant to deal with you." Dumbledore's blue eyes stared at Kyle without blinking, "Just because Miss Prince pleaded for him, you let him go?"
"Isn't this reason enough?" Kyle spread his hands, "Cona trusts Professor Snape, just like I trust Cona, and I don't want to put her in a difficult position.
"Besides, Malfoy later gave up his plan on his own, which could be considered a return to the right path, so I didn't have a reason to insist."
Dumbledore suddenly laughed, and he laughed happily, as if Voldemort's plan had suddenly become less important.
He waved his hand, and a cup of tea immediately appeared on the table, along with an exquisite silver teapot and two cups.
"Would you like some tea? We can discuss other matters slowly."
"If possible." Kyle thought for a moment, "Can I have a cup of Phoenix Tears Infused Felix Felicis Golden Honey Wine? I've always wanted to try it to see what it tastes like."
Dumbledore's hand paused, and then, as if he hadn't heard anything, he picked up the teapot and carefully pinched a few tea leaves from it.
"Try this, it's not worse than the Golden Honey Wine at Three Broomsticks." He placed the tea leaves into the cup and poured boiling hot water, "This was given to me when I turned one hundred, by an old friend, and I've never been willing to drink it.
"In my opinion, this is the best gift I've ever received, even more precious than Felix Felicis."
Kyle took a sip, and the taste was indeed excellent, much better than the red tea he had drunk in the Headmaster's Office before.
However, he couldn't pinpoint what made it so good, perhaps due to his limited experience, as he couldn't quite describe the taste.
Kyle moved his fingers, causing the tea to cool rapidly, and he finished it in one gulp.
This series of actions made Dumbledore's mouth twitch.
What a waste... He shouldn't have given Kyle such a good thing.
Dumbledore tried to calm his emotions and asked, "Tell me your thoughts."
"It's simple." Kyle added some water to the teacup, "Malfoy took the Vanishing Cabinet because he must have discovered another one and had the confidence to fix it.
"By then, Death Eaters could enter Hogwarts from another location through the two cabinets."
"So, what should we do?" Dumbledore asked, "I guess you have other ideas, otherwise, there's no need to give him the cabinet you fixed with such effort."
"I have an immature suggestion..." Kyle picked up the teapot on the table, just as he was about to examine it carefully, Dumbledore quickly snatched it back.
"Just say it, don't touch it."
"Alright." Kyle didn't mind, "Here's what I think. Instead of letting him think of other ways, why not give him a ready-made answer?
"The Vanishing Cabinet is convenient, but it has a significant limitation. If Death Eaters choose to enter the school this way, they will definitely emerge from the cabinet.
"At that time, we only need to place the Basilisk at the cabinet, and we won't need to do anything else. We can capture all the Death Eaters in one go."
The portraits of the Headmasters all turned to look at Kyle...
Place the Basilisk at the Vanishing Cabinet? They could already imagine the scene.
When the Death Eaters, full of ambition, were about to launch their plan, they were greeted by a pair of bright yellow eyes.
This was like a large-scale Death Eater processor, and they couldn't imagine that this was casually mentioned by a young wizard.
However, Dumbledore didn't seem to react at all, and even pondered for a while.
"It's not appropriate." He shook his head, "The Basilisk is too obvious. If it's just one Death Eater, this method is fine, but with more, it's hard to guarantee that someone won't send the message back.
"Moreover, there are many Death Eaters who fear Voldemort and are forced to work for him, or even some who are controlled by the Imperius Curse. We can't use the Basilisk to deal with them."
"Then let's assign a few people to guard it." Kyle continued, "The Vanishing Cabinet is only so big, and only one person can come out at a time. With proper coordination, subduing them the first time they appear won't be difficult."
"This is a good idea." Dumbledore nodded, "But I think setting up some magical traps in advance is also a good idea, at least it can save some manpower and we won't need to guard it constantly."
