Chapter 733: The Interrupted Gathering
Chapter 733: The Interrupted Gathering
As Ivan spoke, the seventeen Runic Inscriptions etched on his left wrist bracelet lit up instantly... A Shockwave composed of Magic rapidly spread out in all directions.
Jamie, who was standing close by, froze in shock as if struck by a heavy hammer to the chest. He tumbled away, rolling and crashing into the massive Stone Pillars that lined the square.
The Aurors guarding the area reacted swiftly, tying up Jamie, who had landed with only a breath left in him.
Ivan, as if he had just performed a trivial task, didn't even glance in that direction. Instead, he turned his gaze to the twenty-odd Dark Wizards who had been pushed forward by the crowd, and once again used Legilimency to enumerate their crimes...
Robbery... murder... theft... fraud... Curses...
One by one, Ivan revealed the various crimes, both overt and covert, that these Wizards had committed.
Each Wizard whose name was called out broke out in a cold sweat, their bodies trembling. To them, Ivan on the stage was like a devil from hell, digging up their deepest, darkest secrets.
The Wizards standing below were filled with righteous indignation. Ivan's words stirred up the anger they had accumulated over the years, and they yearned to tear these criminals apart on the spot.
If looks could kill, these twenty-odd thugs would have been riddled with holes long ago.
Dawgert was somewhat curious about Ivan's sources of information. In the afternoon, during a free moment, Ivan had asked him for a list of people to watch out for in Knockturn Alley, but the information he had written down was far less detailed than what Ivan was now revealing.
Could Ivan have other sources of information?
While Dawgert was racking his brain for an answer, Ivan had already finished listing the crimes of each Wizard and passed judgment. Nine were sentenced to immediate execution, and the remaining sixteen to life imprisonment!
As Ivan delivered his cold verdicts, the twenty-five Wizards displayed a range of reactions—some knelt and begged for mercy, others wept bitterly. Only an elderly Witch glared at Ivan with intense hatred and shouted in a shrill voice.
"You have no right to judge us..."
The surrounding Aurors laughed derisively at her words, but to their surprise, Ivan nodded in agreement.
"You're right, I don't have that right."
Everyone present was stunned, including the elderly Witch, who hadn't expected Ivan to agree with her.
Before she could react, Ivan turned to the Wizards gathered below the magic podium and continued loudly.
"You're right, I don't have the right, but they do!"
"Judging you is not my personal vendetta; it is a decision made by all the Wizards of Knockturn Alley..."
Ivan's words instantly galvanized the Wizards gathered in the square. Soon, someone chimed in.
"Right! Execute them! Hang them from the pillars!"
"No, they don't deserve such an easy death. Use the Cruciatus Curse!" another Wizard spat, glaring at the elderly Witch.
The rising chorus of voices plunged the Dark Wizards awaiting judgment into deep fear. Some in the crowd even suggested that Ivan dismember them or torture them to death with the Cruciatus Curse...
"Silence!"
Amid the chaos, Ivan raised his hand, and his voice, amplified by Magic, boomed like thunder.
A few seconds later, the square fell silent, and all eyes turned to the stage. Compared to before, the gazes directed at Ivan now held more approval.
At the same time, the System Notification for the completed task rang in Ivan's mind.
However, Ivan was too preoccupied at the moment to pay attention to it. He focused all his energy on the hundreds of Wizards gathered below the stage.
"My fellow Wizards, I understand your anger deeply..."
"But blind slaughter is not the answer. Among them, some are guilty of heinous crimes, while others do not deserve death. What we should strive for is order, not chaos. Judgment is not about venting anger, but ensuring they receive the justice they deserve!"
Pausing for a moment, Ivan then spoke with renewed solemnity. "I promise you that each and every one of them will receive the fairest trial! From today onward, Knockturn Alley will enter a new chapter!"
Under Ivan's calming words, the agitated Wizards of Knockturn Alley gradually calmed down.
Noticing the change in their expressions, Ivan nodded to himself, understanding that his authority was beginning to be established.
It was worth the entire afternoon he spent memorizing his speech, even practicing it several times in secret...
Now, it seemed all his efforts were worthwhile, and the results were even better than he had expected. He had thought he would need to rely on forceful policies to make these people submit, but the Wizards of Knockturn Alley turned out to be easier to handle than he had anticipated.
A slight smile formed on Ivan's lips. Just then, a faint round of applause suddenly came from the right side of the square, breaking the silence.
At first, Ivan thought it was the Aurors applauding for him, but when he looked over, he was startled to see that the two Aurors guarding that area had collapsed to the ground, their fates unknown.
The applause seemed to come from the dark depths beyond the reach of the flames...
"Who's there?" Fenrir and the others reacted immediately, drawing their wands and pointing them in the direction of the sound.
In the dim night, a tall, slender figure slowly emerged, his dark Wizard Robes blending almost seamlessly with the night. Only his bright red eyes were visible in the darkness.
"Truly a remarkable speech..."
He stepped to the front of the stage, stopping his applause, and spoke with a tone of admiration. A pale, snake-like face, devoid of any color, broke into a chilling smile.
Voldemort?!
Ivan's pupils contracted, his gaze filled with shock and confusion as he stared at the eerie figure before him.
How could he be here? How was it even possible?
Was there a traitor among the Aurors? Or did he call Voldemort's name in the Underground Fortress, alerting him? Or did the Death Eaters manage to activate the Dark Mark before being captured?
A thousand thoughts raced through Ivan's mind,
But those weren't the main issues. What truly puzzled him was that, according to Dumbledore's judgment, Voldemort should have sustained fatal injuries in that battle, requiring a long period of bed rest.
That was the reason he felt confident enough to hold this large gathering in the Wizards' Market.
Yet, the supposedly severely injured Voldemort now stood before him, perfectly fine...
