Chapter 730: Breaking the Camp
Chapter 730: Breaking the Camp
Upon spotting the human figure, several mounted machine guns in the surveillance area immediately opened fire with a loud, rhythmic staccato.
However, the bullets hitting the figure across the way all fell to the ground one by one, creating a clanging sound on the ground.
The figure didn't seem to make any movement, as if it only slightly moved its hand, and then several machine gunners with psychic protection and wearing heavy protective suits all trembled and had their heads explode in an instant.
The machine gun fire in the area immediately ceased, leaving only the lingering echoes reverberating.
However, the security personnel equipped with psychic protection gear were all elites, well-trained, and they didn't stop their assault just because the machine guns had stopped. Instead, they drew their own firearms and aimed at the figure, firing continuously, filling the hall with various gunshots.
Suddenly, the figure disappeared abruptly from the doorway, and in the next moment, these security personnel felt their bodies flying through the air, not just themselves but everyone armed within the space.
At this moment, Chen Chuan's body abruptly halted, and his outer cloak and scarf fluttered forward violently. Just as he stopped, the metal walls around him reverberated with a booming, rumbling sound, constantly shaking. Behind him, the security personnel who had been airborne were now falling back to the ground.
Chen Chuan hadn't done anything; he had just rushed towards the crowd at an incredibly fast speed, and the force generated by his body's movement alone was enough to send everyone in his path flying.
After ensuring that the people behind him had landed, and no further sounds were heard, he looked forward. This was a three-story building, but most of the people were not on the ground floor but in the underground space.
As he walked down the metal stairs, he reached a corner where armed security personnel, who had taken stimulant drugs, suddenly turned around, attempting to activate the flamethrowers in their hands.
However, their movements were too slow, and every action was within the range of Chen Chuan's psychic and field domain. As the corridor filled with scorching flames, Chen Chuan's figure seemed to flicker, and he had already appeared behind one of the flamethrower operators.
With a small stone in his palm, he slapped it against the back of the operator's head, causing both their skulls to explode simultaneously on the same straight line, and they fell to the ground. The rolling flames continued to spray upwards for a while.
Chen Chuan didn't pay much attention to this; he continued towards the next level. Only upon reaching this floor did he push open the door to see a small-caliber cannon aimed at him, followed by a loud boom and a flickering flash of fire. The cannon even jumped up.
However, the outcome was the same. In Chen Chuan's eyes, everyone's movements were exceptionally slow. Before the cannon's muzzle even vibrated, he had already reached the side of the gunner and struck him with a casual punch, sending the cannon, which had just jumped up, back down forcefully. With a loud crash, the gunner and the cannon twisted and embedded into the specially designed floor beneath them.
After the booming echoes faded, the entire underground space became eerily quiet. Chen Chuan glanced around and noticed an open metal well nearby, with a metal ladder leading further down.
Renouva was hiding in the lowest level of the underground space, the largest floor in the entire area, converted from a former insect nest.
He knew that an enemy like Chen Chuan couldn't be confronted head-on, but that didn't mean there was no solution. Right on this floor, right beneath his feet, a large amount of high-explosive explosives were buried at this very moment.
Renouva was watching from above, his hand gripping a detonator. As soon as Chen Chuan came down, he would immediately detonate the explosives, shattering this area into pieces. Even a Third Limit Fighter couldn't withstand such an explosion; even if they didn't die instantly, they wouldn't be left with much vitality.
Of course, Renouva didn't want to perish with Chen Chuan. So, he was currently standing in a fully protected security room and had injected restorative drugs beforehand. With this level of protection, combined with his fighter's physique, there might be a slight chance of survival afterward.
At this moment, Chen Chuan had already reached the stairs. He glanced at the display on the Dimensional Token, seeing about a dozen people below, all looking extremely tense. However, as he approached this area, he sensed an ominous sign in his psychic perception.
His eyes flickered slightly, and he didn't go down. Instead, he turned and left, directly exiting the surveillance area and closing the door behind him.
After leaving, Chen Chuan surveyed the area and found a significant amount of algae oil stored in the storeroom. He loaded the oil onto a vehicle and drove around the camp, igniting the oil barrels at critical locations.
As he completed the circuit, he deemed it sufficient. He first cleaned his gun and then ignited the algae oil. Soon, the entire camp was engulfed in raging flames, and thick black smoke rose into the sky.
Outside the camp, Yang Yongcheng watched from the hillside, witnessing Chen Chuan's actions as if he were in a realm of his own, single-handedly turning the camp upside down. Yang's blood boiled with excitement, and seeing Chen Chuan set the camp ablaze, he couldn't stay put any longer. He rushed down the hill towards the camp.
Below the ground, Renouva waited for a long time for Chen Chuan to come down, but the temperature around him kept rising. He finally felt something was wrong and ran out of the safe room. He took a look at the situation outside through a periscope and saw the raging fire, his heart sinking.
He suddenly realized with a sense of despair that even hiding here was futile because Chen Chuan only needed to start a fire outside; there was no need for him to enter.
There were many power generation units outside, all running on algae oil, and because of the need to burn the endless swarms of insects, there was still a considerable amount of algae oil piled up in the front, enough to burn everything, including the area where he was located.
Staying here any longer would only mean waiting for death.
However, going out to fight Chen Chuan was equally pointless and would only lead to his demise.
In his despair, he returned to the safe room and pushed down the detonation rod.
A loud explosion shook the entire monitoring area, and the blast wave was so powerful that it lifted the top cover several hundred meters into the sky.
At that moment, Yang Yongcheng had just entered the camp when he heard the explosion, causing his head to buzz. The trembling ground almost made him lose his balance. He shook his head vigorously, and it took a while to regain his composure.
From a distance, on a high platform that offered a panoramic view, Chen Chuan looked up at the billowing black smoke rising into the sky. He then glanced at the Dimensional Token, and the life signs of the last people on it had completely disappeared.
At that moment, continuous explosions erupted around the camp, likely caused by the flames igniting other explosives in the area.
A loud boom echoed as the tall mooring tower, used for docking airships, slowly tilted to one side and eventually collapsed amidst the flames.
Holding the Snow Queen Saber, Chen Chuan stood atop the platform, his jade mask reflecting the raging fire. The flames and swirling air currents caused his cloak and scarf to flutter endlessly.
When Yang Yongcheng rushed over, he was stunned by the scene before him.
Chen Chuan saw him, removed his protective visor, and asked, "Senior Yang, why are you here?"
Yang Yongcheng, overwhelmed with emotion, looked around and admitted that he never imagined Chen Chuan could single-handedly destroy the entire camp.
If Chen Chuan had told him about this beforehand, he would never have believed it. But now that this reality was right before his eyes, he still felt a bit dazed, needing to repeatedly look around to confirm that it was real.
He struggled to calm himself but still spoke with a hint of excitement, "Manager Chen, I saw you from above. I came to see if you needed any help, but I think it's unnecessary now. You've destroyed this camp; was that your mission? You've succeeded!"
Chen Chuan shook his head. "No, not yet."
Yang Yongcheng was taken aback. "Not yet?"
Chen Chuan glanced at the distant dense forest and said, "This is just a rear base. Their main force isn't here; they should have ventured into the Fusion Zone to seize that relic. They are my targets."
Yang Yongcheng nodded slowly. It seemed his initial guess was conservative, given Chen Chuan's demonstrated strength. But he couldn't help but ask, "Manager Chen, are you alone? Is there no backup?"
Chen Chuan replied, "My colleague has already been here, and I'm the backup."
"So that's how it is..."
After a moment's thought, Yang Yongcheng said seriously, "Manager Chen, your next step must be to venture into the unknown region, right?"
Chen Chuan nodded.
Yang Yongcheng looked outside and said earnestly, "Manager Chen, there are still many watchtowers and enemies in the rear camps. Please rest first, and leave those people to me. I'll take care of them."
At that moment, Chen Chuan wasn't tired, nor was he overly exhausted. However, he understood that as a former soldier, Yang Yongcheng would find it challenging to watch his teammates fight while doing nothing himself.
After all, Yang Yongcheng was once a member of the pioneer squad, and dealing with the remaining sentries was no issue for him, so he didn't refuse.
"Old Yang, I'll leave it to you then."
Yang Yongcheng nodded firmly and said, "Leave it to me." He then turned and rushed outside. Amidst the flames, a gust of wind blew, lifting his headgear and revealing his hair, which had already turned grayish-white. However, his remaining eye was exceptionally determined, and his charging figure remained resolute and valiant.
Meanwhile, on the other side, after leaving the camp, an airship flew for an entire afternoon and finally reached the nearest communication point. A rush telegram was then sent to the Union Delegation and the Linaksis Federation's diplomatic residence.
