Chapter 728: Overview of "Shining New World"
Chapter 728: Overview of "Shining New World"
"Kes, where are we heading?" Morningstar, the cat, stood on the windowsill, taking a deep breath of the fresh air outside before turning to look at Su Yu.
Her fur shimmered with a deep, mysterious blue light, twinkling like stars, making her look especially enigmatic and beautiful.
"We’re going to make some money, of course." Su Yu shrugged in response. "I’m currently at the High Tier of the Seventh Rank, and I need a lot more resources to reach the peak of the Seventh Rank."
"How much more do you need?"
"Well…" Su Yu silently calculated in his mind before answering, "Probably around 50 billion more.
Besides what I need, we also owe Alyssa 200 billion. If we can get 700 billion Psychic Coins, we’ll be set."
"700 billion…" Morningstar’s lips twitched.
Though she was just a small cat with no real concept of money, she knew this was a staggering amount.
Even for the Golden Rose Empire, the most powerful nation in the Evolutionary World, 700 billion was a colossal sum!
"Where do you plan to get 700 billion from?" Morningstar sat cross-legged on the windowsill, asking.
"According to my plan…" Su Yu stroked his chin and said, "I can ask the United Government for a small portion. Given their current financial situation, another 200 billion should be manageable.
However, the United Government can’t cover the entire 700 billion. To earn the remaining 500 billion, there’s only one method I can think of—inter-expansion trade!"
...
Speaking of "inter-expansion trade," it’s important to understand the current expansion.
The current expansion is called "Shining New World," the fourth expansion since the game’s launch.
The story of this expansion is as follows:
Sixteen years ago, the Wind Chime Empire’s god-tier powerhouse, the Celestial Wanderer Bard, accidentally discovered a sub-plane very close to the main plane during a spatial journey.
This was his first discovery of another plane, so he named it the "New World."
He freely disclosed the existence of this new world to the public.
Subsequently, 11 god-tier powerhouses from the main plane traveled to the New World out of curiosity and to explore potential opportunities.
However, just as the last god-tier powerhouse, the Elven Empress Galadriel, stepped through the spatial tunnel into the New World, an unexpected incident occurred!
It seemed the "god-tier capacity" of the New World was exceeded, and the spatial tunnel collapsed immediately after the Elven Empress entered!
The collapse of the spatial tunnel meant they were cut off from the main plane, a situation no god-tier wanted to face.
Over the next 16 years, they worked tirelessly to repair the spatial tunnel.
However, due to the damaged planar rules of the New World, progress was excruciatingly slow.
In the last six years of those 16 years, with the 11 god-tiers not returning, the ambitious factions in the main plane could no longer contain their ambitions and initiated one conflict after another.
This was the backdrop for the first three expansions in the game.
At the end of the 16th year, a turning point occurred.
By the end of the year, after the combined efforts of the 11 god-tiers, the spatial tunnel was finally repaired!
After testing, they all successfully returned to the main plane, each god-tier overjoyed.
However, their joy was short-lived. Upon returning to the main plane, the 11 god-tiers had a significant disagreement over the handling of the New World.
Over the past 16 years, while repairing the spatial tunnel, the 11 god-tiers had, to varying degrees, interacted with the New World.
The natives of this new world have a fair bit of knowledge about it.
According to the observations of the godlike beings, the new world plane is primarily inhabited by a humanoid intelligent species called the Shining Star Spirits. This is also the namesake of the "Shining New World" expansion pack.
Despite their grand name, the Shining Star Spirits are not particularly intelligent, averaging the cognitive level of elementary school children on Earth.
This low intelligence limits the species' potential for development.
Based on actual observations, the spiritual energy resources in the entire "New World" plane are only about one-third of those in the main plane.
With such abundant resources, the "New World" has only produced one godlike being and eleven seventh-stage legends, which is far less compared to the main plane.
If the intelligent beings of the main plane had access to these resources, they could have produced four godlike beings and forty seventh-stage legends.
In response to this situation, Kevin Plantagenet, the ancient ancestor of Alyssa, proposed that they occupy this world and seize its spiritual energy, which would then be distributed among the godlike beings based on their individual strength.
If the natives of this world were willing to submit and hand over the majority of their plane's spiritual energy, they would be spared and allowed to continue living in their habitats.
If they resisted, however, there would be no mercy, and they would be slaughtered en masse!
This idea might sound familiar, right?
Indeed, it is exactly what the Skrulls are doing to Earth.
Kevin Plantagenet's proposal received the support of most of the godlike beings, with seven out of the ten agreeing.
However, his proposal also faced opposition.
The Wanderer of the Astral Plane, Bard, the Elven Queen, Galadriel, and the Dwarf King, Harabis stood firmly against it.
According to these three, they should not interfere with the survival and reproduction of the species in the new world. They advocated for friendly communication and mutual exchange.
Trade and cooperation were acceptable, but outright aggression was absolutely out of the question!
The two factions held their ground, refusing to back down.
After a week of arguments, they finally split into two camps, each pursuing their own path.
The "Shining New World" expansion pack unfolds against this backdrop.
Players can join one of the two camps based on their own beliefs.
...
If the expansion pack followed the original storyline (as Su Yu remembers from his previous life), Kevin Plantagenet's camp would have won.
After all, the high-level combatants on Kevin Plantagenet's side were incredibly strong. With an 8 to 3 advantage, the odds were heavily in their favor!
However, in this life, events took a different turn.
The reason is simple—players felt a deep sense of empathy for the natives of the new world!
Seeing these pitiful natives, the players saw their own reflection.
In this life, the players learned about the Skrulls four months earlier than in the previous life.
During those four months, humanity experienced its most brutal massacre—the Gravity Funnel Massacre.
In this massacre, over ten million Earth humans were killed by the Skrulls, leaving a permanent scar on the human psyche.
With such a painful shared memory, how could Earth players side with the invaders?
As a result, shortly after the expansion pack's release, over 85% of the players joined the camp of the Wanderer of the Astral Plane, Bard, to help the new world's natives against the powerful invaders.
The remaining 15% of players who joined the invader camp often did so with the intention of being double agents.
Thus, the players are using their own hands to rewrite the storyline.
