Chapter 727: Gifts
Chapter 727: Gifts
In the spacious living room, groups of young girls gathered in twos and threes.
Lucy and Wendy squeezed together on a single-person sofa. Despite it being designed for one, because Wendy was small and Lucy had a slender figure herself, they didn't look cramped at all. Instead, their closeness made them seem quite intimate.
When Lucy was younger, Feng Ye had brought Wendy along when he went to treat her mother, Layla, for her magic deficiency. During that time, Lucy and Wendy had become quite close, so aside from knowing Feng Ye, Wendy was the person Lucy was most familiar with in the Fairy Tail guild.
Wendy blinked her eyes curiously and asked, "Big sister Lucy, why did you become a mage in our guild? I thought your family had a big business?"
A girlish smile appeared on Lucy's face as she replied, "Managing those businesses would be so boring. I've always wanted to go on adventures, so I ran away from home this time. By the way, Wendy, you've grown quite a bit."
As she spoke, Lucy reached out and ruffled Wendy's hair affectionately.
A faint hint of pink tinged Wendy's cheeks as she replied, "Big sister Lucy, you've grown up too."
Lucy giggled. "After that, I've always kept up with your news. I've collected a lot of newspaper clippings about you guys."
"Really? So, Lucy, you've been following us for a long time. It looks like we've all known each other for quite a while now."
Reby entered the room carrying a tea tray, which she placed on the coffee table. The tray held three cups of hot tea. She picked up one for herself and gave Lucy a cute smile.
Lucy was slightly surprised by Reby's affectionate use of 'chan', but far from being offended, she felt a surge of warmth towards Reby. Returning the smile, she said, "Yes, I always thought that only I knew about you guys, and you didn't know about me. I never expected that because of the Edolas story, you've known about me for a long time too."
"That's what you call fate. You were destined to become our companion."
Reby giggled and then winked, adding, "But if you're also pursuing Big Brother Feng Ye, it's going to be tough."
Hearing Reby bring up this topic out of the blue, Lucy stiffened in surprise. She turned her head to check if Feng Ye was nearby, and upon seeing that he wasn't, she relaxed and blushed slightly. "Don't... don't joke about that! I don't have any... those kinds of feelings..."
Reby narrowed her eyes and took a sip of her tea before continuing nonchalantly, "Little Lucy, you're lying. If you've been following our news for a long time and met Big Brother Feng Ye before, it's impossible for you not to like him."
Lucy's face turned pink from Reby's teasing, but she quickly puffed out her cheeks and retorted, "You're the one, Reby!"
Reby exhaled a warm breath and laughed. "Yes, almost all the girls in the guild like Big Brother Feng Ye. But some people feel hopeless, so they don't get too close. I'm kind of in that situation too, so I'm just here to hang out and have fun."
"Hmm."
Lucy tilted her head, a thoughtful expression on her face.
In her mind, she had already formed a rough but fairly comprehensive relationship diagram. At the very top was, without a doubt, Feng Ye. Below him were Juvia and Lisanna.
Juvia was openly pursuing Feng Ye, so she was probably the most motivated and hardworking among them. Lisanna was in a similar situation.
To the left of the diagram was Mira. Although Mira's actions weren't as frequent as Juvia's or Lisanna's, she didn't hide her feelings for Feng Ye at all and maintained a gentle, older sister image. She belonged to the second tier of pursuers.
Based on her previous conversations with Wendy and Mira, Lucy guessed that Erza was probably like Mira—also in the second tier of pursuers. She seemed to be away on a mission at the moment.
Next was Reby, who belonged to the third tier. Knowing that her efforts would likely fall short compared to Mira and the others, she didn't take much actual action. However, because of her admiration and affection for Feng Ye, she still liked to hang around him. She was more of a 'hanger-on' type.
Lastly, there was Wendy.
Little Wendy's situation was a bit unique. If you asked her if she liked Feng Ye, she would probably blush deeply and be unable to answer immediately. But the answer was obvious. However, her 'inaction' was a bit different from Reby's. Perhaps she was waiting until she grew up a little more?
"Hmm, I'm wondering who has the best chance," Lucy replied, poking her cheek with a finger as she thought.
Reby smiled adorably, took a sip of her tea, and then exhaled a warm breath. "Well, it's hard to say. I'm definitely the one with the least chance."
"What do you mean you have no chance?"
Feng Ye's voice suddenly came from behind her.
Reby paused for a moment, then turned to see Feng Ye standing there with a faint smile on his face. He casually tossed a golden, rhombus-shaped stone towards her.
The golden stone emitted a radiant glow as it arced through the air, landing in front of her and floating there. She reached out and caught it in her hand.
"This is..." Reby looked at Feng Ye with a touch of surprise.
Feng Ye smiled casually and explained, "This is an elemental stone I obtained by accident when I visited another parallel world some time ago. If you infuse it with your magic and wear it, it will almost completely immunize you to that particular element and allow you to absorb magic from that element for your own use."
Hearing Feng Ye's explanation, Reby's eyes flickered with excitement, and her fingers trembled slightly. She exclaimed with a mixture of delight and astonishment, "Thi... This is too precious... I can't accept it..."
"Take it," Feng Ye said with a smile. "This time, I brought back the Yellow Zodiac Star Spirit Keys for Lucy, and I certainly didn't forget about your gifts."
"I brought back the elemental stones from that world," Feng Ye continued, smiling. "There are nine types in total—light, darkness, wind, thunder, water, fire, earth, life, and soul. The one I gave you is the Light Stone, which will aid you in your research of rune magic."
As he spoke, he opened his hand, revealing a blue droplet-like gem, a fiery red gem, and a white gust-like gem, all floating in the air.
Reby paused, cradling the Light Stone in her palm, and then a warm smile spread across her face.
Although Feng Ye had prepared gifts for everyone, she was the first to receive one, which meant that he hadn't overlooked her at all. This alone made her feel content.
"Thank you, Feng Ye!" Reby held the Light Stone close to her chest with both hands and beamed at Feng Ye.
Feng Ye gave her a friendly smile, ruffled her hair affectionately, and then turned to Mira and the others. "You can each choose one as well."
"So beautiful!" Wendy exclaimed, standing up and gazing at the colorful and translucent elemental stones floating in the air. Her large eyes sparkled with wonder.
Before she could make a choice, Feng Ye flicked his finger, causing the green Life Stone to descend towards her. "The wind-type stone suits you best, but as a Sky Dragon Slayer, you don't particularly need a wind-type elemental stone. The life-type stone will be more beneficial."
"Mira, the darkness-type stone suits you best. Jubia, since you're afraid of the earth element, the earth-type stone is perfect for you. Lisanna, you should choose the soul-type stone..."
As Feng Ye presented each of the girls with their own elemental stone, Lucy, sitting beside them, cupped her cheek with one hand and tilted her head slightly, eventually breaking into a smile.
With his gentle personality, sunny disposition, and incredible strength as Fairy Tail's strongest mage, it was no wonder he was the most popular male mage in the magic magazines, admired by countless people.
She reached into her pocket and touched the Virgo Star Spirit Key, her smile growing warmer.
She was one of those admirers as well.
In that moment, she suddenly understood why Mira, Reby, and the others who flocked around Feng Ye didn't treat each other with rivalry or jealousy but instead maintained a harmonious relationship, with even Jubia only occasionally showing hints of competitiveness.
Perhaps everyone was aware that while winning Feng Ye's heart would be the happiest thing, none of them had the confidence to believe they could be the sole recipient of his affections.
