Chapter 726: Lu Zhao's Extra Chapter 2
Chapter 726: Lu Zhao's Extra Chapter 2
After Lu Hongjun's funeral, Lu Jiaguang and his family were preparing to return to the Capital City. It was the year 2000, and the procedures for entering Hong Kong had become more convenient compared to the past.
The night before their departure, Lu Jiaguang approached Lu Jiaxin and brought up a matter: "Jiaxin, Dodog wants to work at Wan Sheng Real Estate. Can you give him a chance?"
Wan Sheng Real Estate had expanded into the mainland in the 1990s and, due to its early planning, was one of the top three real estate companies in the industry. However, Lu Jiaguang focused on first and second-tier cities, constructing only villas and high-end residential apartments. In contrast, Su Heyuan's Victory Group primarily targeted third and fourth-tier cities and was also well-known in the domestic real estate industry.
Lu Jiaxin immediately refused: "The biggest taboo in a family business is nepotism. If Dodog wants to work at Wan Sheng Real Estate or any of my companies, he must go through the hiring process and pass the assessments."
Dodog had performed well in elementary and middle school, but in high school, he became addicted to video games, and his grades plummeted. Eventually, the school advised him to drop out during the second semester of his sophomore year. His mind had wandered, and he could no longer focus on his studies.
After his withdrawal from school, Lu Hongjun had asked Lu Jiaguang to arrange a job for him at the Railway Bureau. Unexpectedly, after working for just over a month, Dodog quit, complaining about the low pay and the tiring work. He then demanded to start his own business. However, with no experience and a lack of perseverance, no one dared to invest in his business ventures.
Lu Shan tried to get him to help out in the shops, but Dodog was unwilling. Over the years, he had worked at several companies but never stayed for long. However, Nan Nan and Dog Sheng were both obedient, and Nan Nan had even been admitted to Beijing University, while Dog Sheng's academic performance was also outstanding.
Lu Jiaguang pleaded, "Can't we make an exception for our nephew?"
Lu Jiaxin was unwavering in her decision. With a stern face, she said, "This is a matter of principle. Even when Zhao Zhao takes over the company in the future, she must first undergo training from the grassroots level."
Once her daughter could handle everything independently, Lu Jiaxin would be able to fully retire and truly enjoy her life.
Lu Jiaguang had no more arguments.
After they left, Lu Jiaxin called her two daughters to her side and discussed the matter: "As a manager, it's acceptable to show favoritism, but the prerequisite is that the appointed person must have genuine talent. Hiring an incompetent person would negatively impact the overall atmosphere of the company."
Since Lu Zhao was ten years old, Lu Jiaxin and Nie Zhan would invite their two sisters to listen in whenever they discussed business matters. This was the so-called gradual influence; the more they listened, the more they understood. In daily life, Lu Jiaxin would also guide them.
Lu Zhao assured her, "Mom, don't worry. I won't let useless people into our family's company."
Upon hearing this, Nie Xing also immediately expressed her agreement, stating that everything must be done according to the rules and regulations.
Lu Jiaxin did not agree with Lu Zhao's continuous grade skipping, but Lu Zhao had already learned that skipping grades was a waste of time. Eventually, at the age of 14, Lu Zhao took the DSE examination and achieved straight A+ grades in all subjects. Subsequently, he applied to several top universities and was ultimately admitted to Harvard Business School.
Although it was within expectations, receiving the admission letter still brought great joy, and the couple even held a banquet to celebrate.
When it was time for school to start, the couple wanted to send Lu Zhao to the university, but they were refused. As their child had grown and developed his own ideas, they could only respect his decision as parents.
Six years later, Lu Zhao obtained his doctorate and returned to Hong Kong. Lu Jiaxin had previously told him that after completing his studies, he would have to undergo training within the family company. However, instead of starting from the grassroots level in the subsidiary companies as Lu Jiaxin had suggested, Lu Zhao began directly as Lu Jiaxin's personal assistant.
A year later, Lu Jiaxin appointed her as the project manager of the group, and three years after that, she became the general manager. By the time Lu Zhao turned 25, he had complete control over the Lu Corporation.
Nie Xing's intelligence was not as exceptional as Lu Zhao's. She studied diligently in elementary and middle school. She performed well in the DSE examination and was admitted to the Economics major. After graduating from university, she continued her studies in the Columbia Business School.
After Nie Xing's birth, Lu Jiaxin reduced her workload, but the company still couldn't do without her, so even when she went on vacation, she had to plan everything in advance.
After taking over the Lu Corporation, Lu Zhao felt liberated and immediately booked a flight for a vacation.
A year later, Nie Zhan called Lu Jiaxin, "Jiaxin, come back quickly, something's happened."
"What's the matter?" Lu Jiaxin asked.
Even if there was a major issue within the Nie Corporation, they wouldn't call her back. As for her two daughters, Lu Zhao didn't need to worry about the younger one, who had been self-sufficient since childhood. Nie Xing was now a graduate student, working at the Nie Corporation during her breaks, and had become much more mature, so she didn't need to be concerned about her either.
Nie Zhan, with a headache, said, "Zhao Zhao brought back two babies, saying they're her children."
Lu Jiaxin's heart skipped a beat. Lu Zhao had previously told her that she wouldn't get married, finding marriage meaningless. However, she had given her assurance that the Lu family would have an heir.
Nie Zhan said, "I asked her about the father, but she said the children are enough and she doesn't need a father. Jiaxin, this girl listens to you the most, so hurry back."
He didn't know how to handle this situation, but one thing was certain: they had to find the father of the children. Marriage wasn't necessary, but they needed to know who the father was.
The next day, Lu Jiaxin flew back home and saw the two little pink bundles. She caressed her sister's soft, rosy cheeks and asked, "How old are the children?"
She had assumed the children were newborns, which was why she hadn't asked during their phone call the day before. Now that she saw them, she realized she had been mistaken.
Lu Zhao spoke frankly, "They're two months and ten days old. Mommy, Dabao looks more like his father, while Xiaobao resembles you more."
Lu Jiaxin looked at the children with their black eyes and hair, but their noses were quite prominent. She asked, "Who is the father?"
Before Lu Zhao could answer, she continued, "Your father respects you, so he didn't send anyone to investigate. Zhao Zhao, I didn't force you to get married, but we can't have children with unknown fathers."
With these words, Lu Zhao felt relieved, "He's of mixed Chinese and American descent, graduated from MIT, and now works at NASA in America."
"Does the father know about the existence of the twins?"
Lu Zhao paused before saying, "He knows. I've known him for four years. Last year, when someone asked me when I was getting married, I didn't want to, but if I had children, no one would pressure me to marry. He's handsome, intelligent, and from a good family background. I think he's the best choice."
Lu Jiaxin asked, "You could have waited a few years for children, why the rush?"
Lu Zhao explained, "Mommy, scientific research shows that the best age for a woman to have children is between 23 and 30 years old. During this period, the body's functions and egg quality are at their best. I'm 26 years old now, which is just right."
She paused and continued, "Having children earlier means they can become independent sooner, and I can retire before I'm 60. Mommy, once I retire, I can travel with you."
There was another unspoken reason: with Lu Jiaxin around, she could focus on work without worrying about the children.
As she had planned, with the arrival of her grandchildren, Lu Jiaxin stayed home and didn't go on vacations anymore. Of course, the children had a nanny and a babysitter to take care of their daily needs, so she only needed to supervise them.
Nie Zhan was the happiest; with grandchildren and his wife no longer traveling, he wouldn't have to go months without seeing her.
When Lu Jiaxin turned 60, the twins were in middle school, and Nie Xing had also matured enough to handle things independently. Nie Zhan handed over the company to Nie Xing, and the couple began their world travels.
