Chapter 725: The Camp
Chapter 725: The Camp
Inside the United Assembly Delegation Hall in White Bird District, the key representatives of the Union gathered around a holographic table, listening to the Action Team Leader's briefing on the current situation.
"We have received confirmed information. Manager Chen Chuan, the Investigation Supervisor from the Handling Bureau, has likely led a team into the Fusion Zone. It seems he was dispatched by higher-ups to support Xu Chan and his team," the Action Team Leader explained.
One of the delegates raised a question, "I thought Chen Chuan wasn't a frontline combatant and wouldn't enter the Fusion Zone?"
The Action Team Leader responded, "The situation has changed. Out of the three Action Investigation Supervisors from the Handling Bureau, one is dead, and another... has been confirmed captured. They've also lost many of their elite personnel and subordinates. The only one available for support right now is Manager Chen."
"And his combat strength is the strongest among the three supervisors. He was promoted based on merit and doesn't have strong connections within the higher-ups. It's understandable that the Defense Department chose him for this mission," the Action Team Leader added.
Another delegate asked seriously, "How will this affect our operation?"
"According to our estimates, the best move for them right now is to send a rescue team to the forward camp established by the Defense Department in the unknown region..." As he spoke, a map of the mysterious area appeared on the screen, marking the location of the Defense Department's camp. In another corner, their own camp was also displayed, differentiated by distinct colors and markers for clarity.
"As long as the Jinbei Dao Defense Department can hold their ground at the camp in the unknown region, ensuring a foothold, they can support and guide Xu Chan's team. Once Xu Chan obtains the relic, they can retreat to the camp, board the flying ship, and quickly return to the garrison's protection with the relic," the Action Team Leader continued.
"So, this location is of utmost importance. Currently, the area is under attack by the elite forces of the Old Imperial House. Manager Chen's first priority will be to secure that camp," he concluded.
The representatives in attendance all acknowledged the logic of this inference, finding it reasonable and the only possible way for the Jinbei Dao government to turn the situation around.
"Is that camp still holding out? Didn't it get breached once before?" asked one of the delegates.
"The elite forces of the Old Imperial House haven't fully committed. They're maintaining a certain level of pressure on the camp. They're likely adjusting and controlling the overall situation based on the relic's whereabouts," the Action Team Leader explained.
The delegates were familiar with such tactics, as their companies often influenced local situations in areas where they had invested significant resources and power.
Given that the Fusion Zone was the Old Dynasty's home turf, it wasn't surprising that they were manipulating the situation, with the ultimate goal being the relic. They were all using each other.
"Does the Action Team have a plan?" asked a delegate.
The Action Team Leader respectfully replied, "We have contingency plans for various scenarios. We're still deploying and adjusting, but we'll have everything in place soon."
One of the delegates asked, "I heard that the Action Team members at the front have already encountered Xu Chan once?"
"That's right..." The Action Team Leader turned to the representative of Mole, sitting beside him. "Blood Diamond Sir from Spire Bio Corporation has already engaged Xu Chan. Blood Diamond Sir is a meticulous person, and he assessed Xu Chan's strength as unexpectedly formidable. He believes the previous evaluation of Xu Chan was inaccurate and must be revised upwards.
Although neither side went all out in the fight, Blood Diamond Sir realized that he couldn't defeat Xu Chan alone, especially with Xu Chan's powerful allies. It would require a force several times larger than their current group to drive them away or inflict heavy damage.
We possess that strength, but at the time, the relic hadn't been located, and the preparations weren't complete, so the Action Team decided to wait.
However, a qualified fighter, Euseios Hross, arrived there a day ago. He has entered the unknown region to join the search for Xu Chan's squad, and we believe he will bring us good news this time."
A delegate asked in surprise, "Qualified? Who?"
The Action Team Leader smiled, "Mr. Euseios Hross. He should have reached their location by now."
Some of the delegates were taken aback, "Hross? Did he get approved?"
Hross was a fighter ranked within the top thirty in the world among Third Limit Fighters, and the Great Harmony government was highly vigilant towards such individuals. They subjected him to strict immigration checks, and his applications to enter the Fusion Zone were repeatedly rejected.
The United Assembly Delegation had given up hope on his inclusion in the operation, but unexpectedly, a turnaround occurred.
The Action Team Leader responded, "The review department suddenly approved his application. This is likely due to the cooperation of the Jinbei Dao Municipal Council, who are more invested in this matter than we are."
"This is good news," Mr. Chi, attending the meeting, affirmed. "With him there, it should be enough to deal with Xu Chan."
The world rankings didn't have strict individual placements, and most of the time, fighters were grouped into tiers of tens. For example, the top thirty fighters were all considered first-tier, and it was challenging to determine who was definitively stronger within that group.
After all, the strength of fighters at this level was relatively close, and the outcome of their battles often depended on luck or their state during the fight. Even the same fighter might win against an opponent one time but lose to them the next.
The strength of Fighters can be roughly categorized by their ranking. Those in the top thirty, for instance, are undoubtedly more formidable than those ranked lower.
Osbert, the host of the delegation, spoke up, "Not only Euseios Hross, but also Wilhelm of the 'Blue Blood' from the Linaksis Federation, is currently en route there with the assistance of our flying ship. He should be arriving soon."
The representatives were surprised. Another top-thirty world-ranked Fighter was unexpected. They exchanged glances, realizing that the Linaksis Federation was aiming to maintain a balance of power with them.
However, before taking action, they had reached a sound agreement, and the Linaksis Federation, due to its strained relationship with the Great Harmony government, lacked the same level of personnel support. As the relocation of relics depended on their assistance, they didn't feel concerned about this.
The action leader turned to the screen and smiled, "Gentlemen, from now on, please await the news coming from the front."
The fusion zone, an unknown area.
Chen Chuan packed his belongings and followed Yang Yongcheng out of the camp, walking along a path covered by dense foliage.
On his journey, he had always avoided traveling through the forest due to the abundance of active plants, which were troublesome to deal with and seemingly endless once deep inside. Moreover, it was challenging to discern directions, and one could easily become trapped if their stamina was depleted.
However, this time, he noticed that the active plants showed no reaction under Yang Yongcheng's lead.
Upon explanation, Chen Chuan learned that the local indigenous people had lived there for generations, establishing a certain understanding and consensus with these plants. Occasionally, they would feed the plants with hunted prey, and Yang Yongcheng had followed this tradition for the past twenty-five years. As long as he was present and their visits weren't too frequent, the plants wouldn't initiate attacks.
Furthermore, areas with active plants often had fewer aggressive creatures, making their journey almost obstacle-free. In less than a morning, they reached the vicinity of the Union camp.
Yang Yongcheng, well-versed in the local terrain, led Chen Chuan to a convenient observation point on a hill. From there, they gazed into the distance.
Despite the distance of at least seven or eight kilometers, their eyesight allowed them to clearly observe the camp's situation.
The entire camp was shaped like a dumbbell, with the north and south ends facing the entrance fortified the most. They could see outposts, barbed wire, trenches, and drawbridges on the periphery, and numerous machine gun positions at the rear, along with what appeared to be bunkers inside.
They witnessed fully armed soldiers spraying various potions with backpack sprayers, covering the ground with dissolved insect corpses.
Several excavators emerged, pushing the insect corpses into pre-dug pits, then dousing them with algae oil and setting them ablaze, creating thick smoke.
Chen Chuan observed that the Union had directly established a rear base, and in a short time, they had set up such an impressive operation, indicating their determination to succeed.
At that moment, Chao Ming suddenly spread its wings, its feathers standing on end as if sensing unease.
Chen Chuan also felt a strange sensation and realized, based on the information he had, that it was likely a strong field signal emitted by a field creature, specifically targeting and repelling creatures with anomalous organizations.
Coincidentally, this was a specialty of some Union companies.
He extended his hand, using his psychic power to calm Chao Ming, who soon settled down.
Yang Yongcheng gestured towards a direction, pointing at a tethered tower, "That's the mooring point for the flying ship. The camp receives supplies via these ships. Look, another one is approaching."
Chen Chuan looked over and saw a blue flying ship approaching, surrounded by a flock of birds seemingly intent on attacking but also appearing hesitant.
As the ship entered a certain range, the strong field seemed to take effect, causing some birds to turn away, while a few remained. However, gunshots rang out from the camp, instantly blasting the birds out of the sky.
Yang Yongcheng exclaimed, "The Scadi Spear! That's a famous long-range rifle from Norlund, renowned worldwide for its elite fighter elimination record. I wonder which generation it is now, but those guns that just fired were likely second-generation models."
Chen Chuan nodded slightly, "Mr. Yang, I need to get closer for a better observation. Are there other suitable observation spots nearby?"
Yang Yongcheng thought for a moment, "Follow me."
As they approached the camp again, the blue flying ship entered the camp, landing at the mooring point.
Most of the Linaksis Federation personnel came out, seemingly awaiting someone's arrival. Soon enough, a figure appeared.
