Chapter 724: The Captives Return
Chapter 724: The Captives Return
Lin Huiyong's words were nothing new. Every Skrull prisoner had been exposed to these ideas extensively after entering the prisoner-of-war camp. Over time, the prisoners gradually accepted these concepts.
In the past, the Skrulls treated the humans of Earth like the monsters on their own savage continents, killing them without any moral qualms. However, after learning about the civilization humans had built, the Skrulls realized that humans were not so different from them. Both were intelligent beings with similar thoughts and values, leading the Skrulls to gradually view Earth humans as equals—though "equals" might be a bit of an overstatement, they were more like "peers in the hierarchy of advanced beings."
Of course, the change in the Skrulls' perception wasn't the main point. The real reason they didn't want to fight was the overwhelming power of the Earth humans.
Prime Minister Cao had already reached the peak of the Eighth Rank; Su Yu was destined to ascend to the Eighth Rank; and Yang Jian, the cultivator, had also regained his Eighth Rank strength. Additionally, Earth was home to a large number of Fifth and Sixth Rank cultivators and players. If war broke out, most of these individuals would become cannon fodder, dying on the battlefield.
As soldiers, they naturally didn't want to die in vain. As officers, they couldn't be 100% certain they would survive the battle. This was the primary reason they resisted the war.
...
Seventh Rank powerhouse Hayden Sunlight looked at his fellow Skrulls and turned to Instructor Lin Huiyong. "You're right. If the final battle truly comes to a point where neither side will stop until the other is completely destroyed, we will both suffer heavy losses. Once I return, I will inform His Majesty and urge him to carefully consider canceling the war."
"Thank you all for your understanding." Instructor Lin Huiyong saluted all the Skrull prisoners present. "I hope that when you return, you will share our ideas with the people, oppose the war, and prevent it from turning into a catastrophe."
...
After the meeting, Lance, heavy-hearted, walked back to his quarters (prison cell). Tomorrow, he would be returning to his home planet. He needed to pack his belongings and prepare for the journey.
Just then, his friend Grant approached him, patting his shoulder with concern. "Lance, when you get back, I suggest you go into hiding, maybe in another country, and live under a false name. Otherwise, 'Flare' won't let you off easy."
After all, Lance had been the one to cuckold the emperor. If no one came after him, that would be truly strange.
"Aye, I've been thinking the same thing, but escaping from 'Flare' won't be easy," Lance replied, somewhat dejected.
He didn't dwell on the issue and changed the subject. "So, Grant, what do you plan to do when you get back?"
"Well, I'll try to get out of the expeditionary force, at least move away from the front lines. I don't want to be cannon fodder in the final battle," Grant said, walking alongside Lance, sharing his concerns.
"What do you think about what Instructor Lin Huiyong said?"
"What else can I think?" Grant lowered his voice. "As long as it doesn't endanger my safety, maybe I can help spread their message. The Earth humans have been good to us, and I owe them. However, if 'Flare' forbids it, even a slip of the tongue could bring trouble. For my own safety, it's best to keep quiet."
"You have a point," Lance nodded.
This was likely the true sentiment of most Skrull prisoners: they wanted to help the Earth humans but were too afraid to do so. But no matter what, protecting themselves was the right choice.
...
That night was a sleepless one for Lance. He stayed by the window, gazing at the Earth's night sky, lost in thought.
The next morning at nine, he received the notification to depart.
In the square of the prisoner camp, Lanbo boarded a familiar-looking transport hovercraft, heading northeast toward Mount Fuji.
Lanbo and fifteen other sixth-rank captives were the first to be sent to the Fuji Spring.
However, upon boarding the hovercraft and seeing the familiar interior, Lanbo asked, puzzled, "Isn't this the R47 troop transport from our Sun Empire? How did it end up in the hands of the Blue Star people?"
Grant, who was sitting next to him, looked around and exclaimed in surprise, "Heaven's sake, it is indeed a Sun Empire transport hovercraft! How did it get here?"
"Of course, the Blue Star people must have stolen it!"
"They really know how to rub it in, making us ride in this thing."
But what surprised them even more was yet to come.
The interior of the hovercraft was spacious and bright, especially this super-large model. The second floor of the vehicle they were in was lined with floor-to-ceiling glass.
Looking outside, they saw twenty identical hovercrafts flying around them!
"Quick, look, what's that?"
"Heaven's sake, twenty hovercrafts?!"
"Did the Blue Star people raid our military warehouses?"
"Probably, otherwise where would they get so many transport hovercrafts?"
"At least my brother Ranche didn't see this, or who knows what his reaction would be."
Amid the captives' astonishment, the transport hovercrafts continued their flight toward Mount Fuji.
...
Two and a half hours later, the twenty hovercrafts landed at the foot of Mount Fuji.
Exiting the vehicles, they faced a group of over ten Blue Star cultivators led by Chancellor Cao.
Seeing the captives arrive safely, Chancellor Cao shouted in Skrull, "Little friend Su Yu, the captives have arrived. You can have the Skrulls throw out the gold now."
"Got it!" Su Yu, standing at the mountaintop, replied with a smile as he looked at Ranche. "Now that the captives are here, it's time to hand over the gold, right?"
"Fine." Seeing his brother and Hayden Sun at the foot of the mountain, he felt more at ease.
He opened his spatial ring and took out several crates of gold bars, tossing them out of the spring.
However, he kept a cautious eye and didn't throw out all the gold, only about 50%.
"This is the first batch, roughly 550 tons. I'll give you the rest after all the captives enter the spring."
"Whatever." Su Yu nodded.
...
After leaving the hovercraft, Chancellor Cao personally escorted Lanbo to the mountaintop and used his magic to restore control over their internal spiritual energy.
Feeling the endless power regenerating within him, Lanbo finally felt at ease.
Entering the spring, a blue figure rushed toward him—it was his brother, Ranche!
"Bro, how have you been living on Blue Star? Have the Blue Star people mistreated you?" Ranche looked his brother up and down, concerned.
"Well, not really. The Blue Star people are quite good to their captives," Lanbo said honestly. "And they healed my injuries while I was in the prisoner camp."
"They probably didn't want to mistreat you because they're afraid of us," Ranche offered a seemingly reasonable explanation. "But don't say that later. Many media will be here, and you need to say that you were humiliated and mistreated on Blue Star, got it?"
