Chapter 720: Heart of Hell
With Zaril dead and the Hell Legion repelled, the Army of the Ashen Empire swiftly occupied the City of August. Soldiers marched in precise lines down the streets, rifles held high, their movements sharp and disciplined.
"Drop your weapons. There is no point in further resistance. The Imperial Army targets only the guilty—the common soldiers are spared!" The electronic voice echoed through the city, cold and unyielding.
Airships descended in droves, anchoring above the city like colossal shadows, their silhouettes blotting out the sun. Steam tanks rumbled forward, their whistles spewing scorching white smoke, engines roaring with relentless fury. Massive armored constructs advanced at a deliberate pace, each step shaking the ground beneath them, drawing countless fearful yet curious glances from the Thracians below.
It didn’t take long for key structures—Royal Palace, Eternal Sun God’s Tower, the Thrace Treasure Vault—to fall under Imperial control. After countless wars, the Empire’s troops had mastered this ritual: conquer, subdue, dominate.
Throughout the operation, resistance was minimal. Only Wilhelm’s loyalists—the Thrace nobles who had sealed pacts with the Devil—fought on, clinging to their last bastions.
A towering Baron Avatar, bound in heavy iron chains, roared as hellfire erupted from its maw. "Mortal! Hell shall descend upon you!" it bellowed. "Your souls shall nourish Avernus!"
Zaril was already crushed beneath His Majesty’s heel—how dare you speak so boldly? Open fire!" A half-dragon officer raised his sword, disdain dripping from his voice.
The specially forged bullets—glowing faintly with holy light—descended like a storm, tearing through the Devil’s Avatar. The noble’s body was riddled with holes, a sieve of death. Magma-like blood splattered across the ground, burning tiny craters into the streets.
One by one, the Thrace nobles fell. Corpses, riddled with bullet wounds, were dragged from their opulent homes. Blood flowed in rivers through the alleys, the stench of blood and burnt flesh thick in the air.
"Is that Marcondo’s Baron? I never thought he’d make a pact with the Devil..."
"Indeed. People can be so deceiving. He was known as a generous man—now he seeks immortality through Hell’s power."
"These nobles deserve to die! My sister was taken by them—she’s been missing for months!"
The citizens huddled behind their windows, peering out with mixed expressions—fear, anxiety, but also a flicker of curiosity.
They feared, because in recent years, the Thrace Kingdom had painted the Empire of Ashen as a purgatory on Earth. Rumors spoke of endless suffering, of citizens trapped in a cycle of fire and water.
But now, Wilhelm’s alliance with the Devil—the sacrifice of human souls—had been exposed. Even the most naive child could see: the official propaganda was a lie.
Yet they were also awed. They had witnessed firsthand the miracle of the Emperor of Ashen Flame—the sun god’s power, manifesting in the sky, saving them from eternal damnation.
"Is His Majesty really the cruel tyrant the rumors claim? They say every nation becomes his slave, forced to labor endlessly..."
"Rumors! The people’s beloved King would sacrifice our souls to the Devil, even offer the entire city of August to Hell! He is the true tyrant!"
"Yes! The Thrace nobles are already servants of Hell!"
"But the Empire attacked our city! My brother served in the defense force—he was killed by an artillery shell. No body left. Just dust."
"I only know this: King Kai Xiusu pulled me from the Devil’s steel fork. Without him, my soul would’ve been taken long ago."
"We are Fadalan people! Even if the king is unjust, we should build our own nation. Why bow to a dragon?"
"King Kai Xiusu is the avatar of the sun. Isn’t that enough?"
The people whispered, argued, debated. The city trembled with tension and revelation.
Far above, thousands of meters away, a massive Red Dragon perched atop a mountain peak, silent and watchful.
As the Empire’s lament foretold: his eyes could see all things, his ears could hear every whisper across the world.
"Seems… the situation is favorable," Kai Xiusu murmured, spreading his wings wide. White smoke curled from the gaps between his scales.
"After this grand performance—justice triumphing over evil, light shattering darkness—the submission of the Thracians was inevitable. Now, the real question is Avernus’s reaction. One Hell Lord dead… the Lord of the Nine Hells won’t let this pass easily."
Kai Xiusu extended a claw. In his palm, a crimson crystal materialized—Zaril’s Heart of Hell, the condensed soul of a Devil, pulsing with dark power, radiating a crimson glow.
A glowing black-gold trophy appeared in his character sheet—symbolizing a Legendary Armor Achievement.
The criteria for such an achievement were brutal: to alter the fate of the multiverse. And now, Kai Xiusu had claimed three such Black Gold achievements:
- Saint Slayer, earned by defeating Barachiel.
- Demon Slayer, from killing Jelrazaks.
- Oathbreaker, from slaying Zaril.
Coincidentally, each came from a different plane: Abyss, Heaven, and Hell.
> [Your total Armor Achievement points reach 50,000. Unlock Title: Multiverse-Level Grinding Emperor]
>
> Multiverse-Level Grinding Emperor – Title Effect: Special Visual Effect
The title shimmered into existence—a radiant, seven-colored aura pulsing in the air. The Red Dragon’s lips twitched.
“Damn. This was my trick to trick players.”
Kai Xiusu stared at the illusion, then refocused, scanning the details beneath the trophy.
> [You have slain a Hell Lord. Awarded Legendary Armor Achievement: Oathbreaker]
Oathbreaker
Baator Hell is the ultimate realm of Order and Evil—where cruelty is calculated, and betrayal is refined. Hell Lords rise from among the countless devils who schemed, plotted, and clawed their way to the top, each standing at the pinnacle of their respective layer.
> "They are more cunning, more treacherous, and infinitely more dangerous. Demons crave power—glorious, intoxicating, evil power. But devils? They operate on schedules, plans, and meticulously crafted conspiracies, always preparing for retribution."
—Book of Hell, as recorded by a traveling magician imprisoned by Mephistofelis for three centuries.
Passive Ability Unlocked:
[Oathbreaker’s Vow]
- Constitution +1
- Charisma +1
- Gains additional traits: [Infernal Breath], [Oathbreaker’s Vow]
[Infernal Breath]
After a brief charge, your breath erupts as a torrent of hellfire—awakening greed, rage, and corruption within the hearts of mortals. A force capable of tempting even the purest soul into darkness.
[Oathbreaker’s Vow]
After expending a portion of spiritual power, you may break any binding pact or vow, with a chance to destroy it entirely—regardless of origin.
The black-gold trophy pulsed softly, its light seeping into the Red Dragon’s vast form.
Once strength reaches the peak of the Material Realm, every point of attribute boost is precious. Kai Xiusu hadn’t felt this exhilaration in a long time.
> [Constitution: 36 → 37]
> [Charisma: 40 → 41]
The system’s reality-warping power descended upon him.
At Kai Xiusu’s current rank, only a True God could forcibly alter his body—yet the system did it effortlessly.
The air cracked. Space warped. A thousand tiny fractures split the sky. From the gaps in his scales, flames erupted. A tidal wave of heat surged across the mountains. Magma burst from the earth, rivers of fire erupting from the ground.
"Aaargh!" Kai Xiusu threw back his head in a thunderous, uncontrolled roar. Lightning split the heavens, striking the earth in endless torrents.
Stat Point Allocation—perfect.
Below, the citizens of August trembled in terror. Spellcasters recoiled in horror, sensing a colossal arcane storm gathering across the world—like the prelude to a cataclysm.
The white smoke cleared. The Red Dragon’s immense, dignified form stood revealed.
Muscles rippled beneath his hide—dense, powerful, stronger than steel, yet supple as living iron. His Charisma surged further. Every gesture sent ripples through the arcane fabric of reality. Even a Legendary Mage would falter at his presence.
"Hellfire Breath."
He opened his maw. No long charge. No hesitation. A regiment of violently burning flames erupted—crimson and unnatural, crackling like whispered curses, exuding an aura of pure evil.
"Decent," Kai Xiusu mused, feeling the pulse of the fire.
Though Hellfire Breath was powerful and terrifying, Kai Xiusu’s breath arsenal was already absurdly vast:
- Plunder Breath
- Chaos Flame
- Order Flame
- Primordial Breath
- Bahamut’s Breath
- Extreme Breath
- Multi-Stream Spew
- Thunderbolt Spew
- Frost Spew
Now, Hellfire Breath was added to the list.
In sheer variety, Kai Xiusu’s breath attacks alone surpassed the entire Five-Colored Dragon lineage. Only a multi-headed beast like Tiamat could rival him.
Sometimes, Kai Xiusu would open his maw, pause, and hesitate—overwhelmed by the sheer number of ways he could end an enemy.
"Let’s test this Oathbreaker’s Vow."
He narrowed his eyes, folded his wings, and focused inward. He awakened the new vitality within, drawing it forth.
His eyes snapped open. In his pupils, a burning light flared.
Before him, a blood-stained parchment materialized—his contract with the Devil.
Inscribed with countless tiny, crawling words, it wrapped around him like chains, binding his soul to the River of Hell. The terms were familiar.
> Article 13: Bair’s Faction recognizes and respects the Empire of Ashen’s leadership in establishing a New Order across the Feiansuo Continent.
> Article 139: In case of conflict with Zaril’s power, the Empire and Bair’s Faction shall support each other with all political, economic, and military means.
> Article 461: Devils under Bair’s faction may bind pacts with Imperial citizens, granting them Hell power.
This was the pact Kai Xiusu had sealed with Bair—the oath witnessed by the River of the Dead, the foundation of their alliance.
Break it, and the River would descend upon you—dragging your soul into the abyss.
Even a semi-god would suffer unbearable agony.
But now, a dark light flared from Kai Xiusu’s claw. He could feel it—the power to shatter the pact.
"Interesting. This must be what devils fear most." He smirked, clenching his claw. The darkness faded.
Devils thrived on pacts—manipulating mortals, binding enemies, weaving intricate webs of deceit. But Kai Xiusu now held the ultimate weapon: the power to destroy the very game.
For now, Bair still served a purpose—his ascension as the next Hell Lord was useful. No need to break the pact.
Suddenly, the crimson crystal in his claw flared with a bloodlight glow, hovering midair.
> Heart of Hell
> Relic | Mythic Realm: Order, Evil, War, Law, Charm, Death
> Effect: Unknown
>
> Baator Hell is the ultimate plane of Order and Evil—where cruelty is deliberate, and betrayal is perfected. The nine layers of demons are bound by strict hierarchy. Even the most wicked devils obey the laws of order, for only through calculation can they ascend.
> At the top, Hell Lords wield absolute authority. The Lord of the Nine Hells has never been defeated.
The bloodlight washed over Kai Xiusu’s face. He felt it—the familiar, chilling presence of Avernus.
He stared at the crystal. Within it, a greatsword—twisted with thorns—hovered in midair. The Hellblade. The symbol of power every devil coveted.
Then, a slow, triumphant grin spread across his face.
"I see… So this is the Authority of Avernus."
Hahahaha!
"No wonder she told Bair, ‘There is no winner in Hell.’ She sealed 30% of Hell’s Authority within her core—right before dying!"
Zaril knew full well: a Red Dragon’s greed would never allow him to give up what he’d already devoured.
And without the full Authority of Avernus, Bair could never truly rule. He couldn’t repel the demons. He couldn’t complete the Blood War.
This was Zaril’s final revenge.
Even in death, she refused to let her traitorous rival rest in peace.
She wanted Bair and Kai Xiusu to turn on each other.
Without the complete Authority, the deep abyss demons would invade Avernus. The Abyssal Legion would storm the realm.
And in the end… even the Lord of the Nine Hells might appear in person.
To take the Authority from Kai Xiusu.
To dethrone Bair.
And perhaps… to resurrect Zaril.
